McPresby News

As in years past, our Worship in the Park service will be a combined service with the First Baptist Church of McDonald and several other local churches.

All members are invited to bring their own lawn chairs. Seating is also available on picnic tables for the worship

service and for the meal.

A covered dish contribution to the common meal is requested. Those attending whose last names begin with A-H are asked to bring a dessert. Those whose last names begin with I-Z are asked to bring a starchy side, vegetable or salad.

A common offering will be taken so all members are asked to use your regular offering envelope to make contributions to your respective church. All loose offerings will be given to the McDonald Meals on Wheels.

We are always looking for help with setup, grilling and so forth. If you are able to help, set up begins at 8:00 a.m. Our Trustees will be meeting on Saturday, August 20 to load equipment and tables so they will be ready for Sunday morning.

Most importantly - invite a friend to join us for this fun Worship in the Park!

WORSHIP IN THE PARK

AUGUST 21, 2016 @ 10 A.M.

Before or after worship on August 21, be sure to check out the new signage at Heritage Park. MPC coordinated the design and approval of seven different welcome and rules signs. These signs represent the final mission gift funded through the Lighting the Way Campaign. One of the welcome signs is pictured above.

We are very thankful for the cooperation of McDonald Boro in helping us to fulfill our vi-sion for community development and to be a blessing to our town. We hope to do more projects like this in the future as we seek to be strategic partners in the flourishing of our local community.

Many thanks to MPC Session for believing in this project that took almost four years to come to reality. Also special thanks to Scott Ware for coordinating the initial design and to Joe Capolla of Capolla Signs and Graphics for his generous pricing of the signage.

Each sign also has a note sharing that it was provided by “McDonald Presbyterian Church ECO.”

Our hope is that many will be blessed by the signs and that citizens of our community might come to realize that our church cares about them and seeks to be a blessing beyond our own walls.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD UPDATE

MINISTRY UPDATES

June and July were exciting and full of Jesus for Children’s Ministry. We started June with a beautiful Children’s Sunday, watching all of our kids give their own message. Children’s Church took on the task of continuing the Gospel Project curriculum. Given the fact that we all take vacations in the summer, we have included a “Summer Ketchup” about every 4 weeks. The kids get to play games, watch videos, sing songs and fellowship together. Our first Summer Ketchup even included hot dogs and swimming! There will be two more Ketchup sessions: Saturday, August 13 & Saturday, September 10 from 5:00-7:00pm in Trinity Parlor & Trinity Fellowship Hall. This is a great opportunity to bring a friend to church!

In July our kids attended a 5-day overnight camp with Pastor Justin at Pine Springs Camp. They enjoyed Bible lessons from Joshua, sang songs and played some fun Olympic games. Another exciting and amazing event from July was our own Cave Quest VBS. It took everyone from our congregation to put this together! Thank you all for your participation, donations and support. It could not have taken place without all of your hard work combined.

As we move into August, we will be continuing the Gospel Project in Children’s Church, focusing on Solomon.

Our fall Sunday School will resume on September 11 at 9:30 a.m. Make sure to get in your registration form so that our teachers can prepare. The registration form can be found on page 4 of this newsletter. We will start the year studying from 1 Kings. The full schedule will be sent home as we get closer to the start of Sunday School. It is also posted on our website. Important Dates: August 13 Summer Ketchup September 10 Summer Ketchup September 11 Sunday School 9:30 a.m.

TELEPHONE PRAYER AND INFORMATION LIST:

Often, news and prayer requests are disseminated throughout the congrega-tion via email. However, not all of our members have email access. Therefore, we are instituting a prayer and infor-mation list for items that Pastor Justin feels need to be shared during the week and should not wait until Sunday Ser-vice.

When an email is sent out, a call will be made to the first person on the list who, in turn, will immediately call the next person, who will call the next, and so on.

Here is our list to date:

Peggy Moore 724-693-8969

Arlene Carr 724-926-8264

Jane Baker 724-926-3927

Margaret Novak 724-926-9894

Shirley & Ed Esposito 724-492-1530

Janet Crawford 724-796-3036

Hannah Fay Descutner 724-356-3466

Please keep this list near your phone and be diligent about making the calls.

If you would like to be added to the list, please contact Molly Maxwell.

Celebrate fall with an amazing day filled with lots of family fun: Homemade Food, Treasure Chest Resale Shoppe, Off the Chart Baked Goods, Highest Quality Pumpkins and Mums for Sale, Raffle Baskets, Awesome Craft and Vendor Deals, Live Music on our Main Stage, and a Children’s Fun Area. Great Fun for a Great Cause!

Thanks to the amazing generosity of our mem-bers, business partners and vendors, every dol-lar that is raised will go towards supporting mission and ministry work in our community and beyond. Children’s and student ministry, mission work in Wash-ington County, out-reach mission trip to Kentucky, Heartline Ministries in Haiti, and Operation Christmas Child worldwide. Rest assured God will be glorified through this festival.

Feed My Starving Children MobilePack Event

South Fayette Intermediate School Saturday, August 27, 2016 (2 shifts)

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Chris-tian non-profit organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: volunteers hand-pack meals specially formulated for mal-nourished children, and FMSC sends them to mission partners running orphanages, schools, clinics and food programs around the world. FMSC food has reached nearly 70 countries.

The Christian Education, Mission and Evan-gelism Committee of Session invites you to join us at this event. This is a great family or small group activity. Registration is available online, but please contact John Casey or Mi-chelle Unruh for more information. More details will be available soon.

A very sincere thank you to all of my friends and the church family for all of the cards, food, phone calls and most importantly all of your prayers during my surgery and recu-peration. It is a comforting feeling to know that so many prayers were being said for me.

I appreciate it so very much. God bless you all. ~ Janet Slack

On behalf of the congregation, the Board of Trustees would like to thank everyone who helped pull weeds, plant flowers, edge beds, spread mulch and much more dur-ing our Spring Clean Day in May. We would like to acknowledge the contribution of

Mark Slack and his crew from Specialized Professional Services Inc.(SPSI) who re-seeded the Trinity hillside and filled in and replanted the front yard of the Calvary Manse. Also, we are grateful for the generous donation of dirt and mulch from Rock Mulch & More.

There is one picture of Jesus in my house, and it is the one shown here. I think it is a perfect depiction of His humanity. Yet it has an ethereal quality as well. It makes me smile; it makes me feel hope and joy. It reminds me that sometimes laughter can be as cathartic as tears. Who among us hasn’t laughed so long and hard as to say afterward, “Wow, that felt good.”?

Following are some stories and one-liners that I hope will instill a good feeling and maybe induce a good belly laugh, or at least a chuckle. As the Psalmist said, “Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.” ~ Patty Doane

A Sunday School teacher asked her class why Joseph and Mary took Jesus with them to Jerusalem. A small child replied, “They couldn’t get a babysitter.”

A Sunday School teacher was discuss-ing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year old. After explaining the commandment to “honor thy fa-ther and thy mother,” she asked, “Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?” Without missing one beat one little boy answered, “Thou shall not kill.”

Two boys were walking home from Sunday School after hearing a strong preaching on the devil. One said to the other, “What do you think about all this Satan stuff?” The other boy replied, “Well, you know how Santa Claus turned out. It’s probably just your dad.”

Actual Church Announcements

For those of you who have children and don’t know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

Next Thursday there will be try-outs for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

The Pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric gir-dles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday.

The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals.

Don’t let worry kill you off, let the church help.

At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be “What is Hell?” Come early and listen to our choir practice.

Ladies, don’t forget the Rummage Sale. It’s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keep-ing around the house. Bring your husbands.

Some people are kind, polite, and sweet-spirited ~ until you try to sit in their pews.

People are funny. They

want the front of the bus, the middle of the road and the back of the

church.
