James Della Selva has been teaching chess at Meadowbrook for over 15 years. Chess is a game of skill based on scientific
principles which can be taught at a very young age. Students will explore and practice basic chess theory while listening
to ageappropriate chess stories. The course will consist of instruction, play and group work on chess problems and
games. Jim Della Selva’s Chess Class has become a beloved class with our younger students!
Global Video Game Designers in conjunction with Level Up Village
Instructor: Adam Dalicandro

Cost: $350 (8 classes)
In Global Video Designers, students use “Scratch”, an introductory programming language that enables young children to
create their own interactive games. Children snap together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump,
dance and sing. They exchange favorite songs and games with their GLOBAL PARTNERS and then showcase what
they’ve learned about each other in their final creations.
Dollar Scholars

Cost: $325 (8 classes)
Is your child asking questions about money? We can help with answers. Dollar Scholars is an 8class program that teaches
kids about money management. We cover topics including: saving, earning, entrepreneurship, spending, budgeting,
advertisements, and giving. Students also learn important, lifelong skills such as delaying gratification and setting
longterm goals. The students use their everyday math skills to work through problems and understand new concepts. Our
classes engage students in meaningful discussions and encourage them to collaborate with each other on various fun
projects. The goal of Dollar Scholars is to support parents and schools in giving their kids the skills they need for success.
EurekaLab for Middle School Instructor: Daniel Facey

Exercise your creative and critical thinking skills while having fun designing and building robots. This class will explore
robotics and programming to create machines that can complete tasks or navigate their environment. Will accommodate to
beginners or experienced students. We will be using construction blocks, EV3s, Raspberry Pi, and 3D printed parts to
construct and program.
Polite Society

Polite Society is an 8 week Manners Program for students in grades JK through 5. This program is being brought to us by
Susan Callender of “Oh My Gauche!” Inc. Each of the eight classes will consist of a different topic and the eight weeks
have been planned as such: Meeting New People & Safety, Introductions & Body Language, Politeness, The Place
Setting and Introduction to Dining, Social Manners & the Spoon, Social Manners & Casual Dining, Why are There So
Many Forks in Front of Me? and finally, Special Occasions and Graduation. These lessons will be taught using Visual,
Written and Auditory Tools and parents will receive an email detailing what was learned in each class. And Susan
Callender of “Oh My Gauche” welcomes parents and caregivers to contact her directly with any questions pertaining to
the subject matter for the program.
LEGO Class

This LEGO Class offers an open space where children can have fun while building skills like creativity, team work,
problemsolving, and collaboration. LEGO classes teach children concepts such as math, science, geography, history,
natural sciences, engineering and robotics. LEGO products are used as a tool to teach them, so they have FUN while
learning! This class will be offered on Tuesdays throughout the year with Meadowbrook’s beloved math teacher Dotty
Corbiere!
Makers Lab
Instructor: Aaron Pereira

For: Grades 3 through 5 Cost : $300 (8 classes) Learn how fun and easy it can be to design, tinker and build just about anything you can imagine. Students will work handson in the Eurekalab to design and build their very own creations. They will learn about all that the makerspace has to offer and apply what they learn throughout the course. We will utilize Gravit, a free, full featured computer drawing program that will aid in the design of a few different projects, including weightbearing bridges and highflying catapults.
Python Programming for the Google Now Assistant
Instructor: Michael Frey Offered: Tuesdays 4:255:45 For : Grades 6 through 8 Cost: $275 (includes cost of supplies) Learn how to build your very own Google Now Assistant !! You will learn how to setup a Raspberry PI 3, setup Google Cloud services, hook up physical hardware switches and more!! You will also learn about the Google Voice Kit project. We will even build a case using cardboard to hold your digital assistant. Extra credit is learning how to use Python to control the Google Assistant.
Karate Rocky DiRico’s School of Kenpo Karate
Instructor: Rocky DiRico Offered: Wednesdays 3:154:15 For: Grades JK through 3 Cost: $200 (8 classes) With over 600 first place finishes and 100 grand championship wins, Rocky DiRico has won the most titles as a master/senior competitor in the history of karate. We are fortunate that he brings his expertise in karate to Meadowbrook and has done so for almost fifteen years. In one of our most popular classes, the students are taught skills in karate and also reminded of the values: respect, selfcontrol, and gratitude. Rocky has been running his own karate school in Arlington since 1978.
Creating in the Eureka Lab
Instructor: Aaron Pereira Offered: Wednesdays 3:154:15 For: Grades 3 through 5 Cost: $300 (8 classes) Combine art and technology as we design for the many making tools of the EurekaLab. No previous experience necessary! We will introduce Gravit, a free, full featured computer drawing program. We will learn to draw basic lines and shapes. Kids' creations will be printed on paper or vinyl, on 1/8 inch plywood on our laser cutter and made in our 3D printer.
Art Instructor : Beth Meditz Offered : Thursdays 3:154:15 For : Grades JK through 3 Cost: $200 (8 classes) Beth Meditz, M.Ed, has been bringing her love of art to Meadowbrook for over four years. Your children will express themselves in the most delightful ways! Children share a wonderful learning environment while c hoosing from a wide array of inspiring and unusual materials. Your artists will create unique, individual masterpieces that also expand thinking and learning skills. They will be encouraged to experiment and explore materials to create expressive art, as well as unique usable objects of art. Imagination grows! Creative energies flow! Children will expand their artistic sides and see the world through the eyes of an artist! The art activities are fun, inspiring and designed by Beth, coowner of the children's entertainment company, EventFULL! LLC ( www.eventfull.net ). She presents art classes and handson workshops, parties and events in 20 towns around Massachusetts.
Cross Country Cooking
Instructor : Michelle Bearak Offered : Thursdays 3:154:15 For : Grades 1 through 3 Cost: $300 (8 classes) Travel through the United States stirring up history and learning about the people, places and food that put each state on the map. Children will explore a different state each class and may include: map work, fun facts about each state, famous people from each state, landmarks, and cooking!
Mixed Media Birdhouse
Instructor: Makers Workshop (formerly Denault Studios) Offered: Thursdays 3:154:15 For: Grades 2 through 5 Cost: $250 (8 classes) In this Maker class, students will work with clay, metal, and glass to create a 3dimensional birdhouse. Students will use their own imagination to design a birdhouse. Birdhouses will incorporate glass, ceramics, and metal each week to make components to the house (ex: a copper roof, ceramic siding, and so on). Each week will focus on a different medium, but in the end students will leave with their very own birdhouse.
Fall Gardening Club
Instructor: Sue Fisher Offered: Thursdays 4:255:45 For: Grades 6 thrrough 8 Cost: $175 (8 classes) Join Ms. Fisher in the garden to help with harvesting and fall garden chores. Enjoy some fresh air and help maintain the school garden. The vegetables we harvest will be used in the Meadowbrook School kitchen. Tasks for the garden club will vary from week to week and may include planting of fall crops, harvesting and washing produce, weeding, garden
maintenance, watering and more. No prior experience necessary, just an interest in learning how to get your hands dirty to grow food for the school.

Instructor: Be Ahead of the Game Offered: Fridays 1:002:00 For: Grades JK through 2 Cost: $150 Be Ahead of the Game clinics are playercentered and coachdriven, practices. Coaches will make sure everyone is learning and getting plenty of practice all while smiling and having fun. We want to help your child become a successful player, by working on all the fundamental skills, shooting; offensive techniques, ball handling, proper defense, footwork and passing. Another focus will be on learning the value of teamwork, sportsmanship and communication during ageappropriate drills. All drills will help them master and navigate the field/court with complete confidence. Although we have many of focuses, our main focus is having fun and inspiring a love of the game.
Friday Chess
Instructor: James Della Selva Offered: Fridays 1:002:00 For: SK t hrough 5 th grade Cost: $150 James Della Selva brings chess instruction to our students in Senior Kindergarten through 4 th grade. Chess can be approached as a sport, science and an art form. Class will consist of instruction and play. Instruction will be given so that the advanced player as well as the beginner will benefit. The students will study master instructive games and techniques that are designed to improve their game and will receive a chess trophy upon completion of the program. Due to a limited number of Fridays, this class will only meet six times. *SK Parents: Once the SK goes to a later day in January, this is the only chess class they can register for. SK students will be in their classroom until 2:30 and will no longer be able to participate in the Monday JK/SK Chess class.
Hip Hop Dance Class
with Boston Mobile Dance
Instructor: Carl Alleyne Offered: Fridays 1:002:00 For: JK t hrough 5 th grade Cost: $150 Carl Alleyne returns for his fourth year here at Meadowbrook! Classes will be geared toward the beginner no prior dance knowledge needed. Students will be in an energetic class that not only teaches you Hip Hop movements and technique, but also instills rhythm and precision in your muscle memory. Hip hop students can apply what they learn to various styles of dance and settings!
