Please see the bulletin article inside for further details on how it works. Thank you to Shari Chmura our Director of Faith Formation for creating this program and offering it to our families.Forming Intentional Disciples! Join Dr. Matthew Dubroy this fall for six formation sessions designed to jumpstart your faith and teach you how to tell the story of Jesus in a compelling manner and form intentional disciples. OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRAYER

FATHER JAMIE’S HEALING HUMORThis message was left on a telephone answering machine: “Hi! You’ve reached Fred and Ruth. We’re gonna’ be out of town for a few days. We found that getting away once in a while helps our relationship, so I went to Acapulco and she went to Miami.”

(from JOEY ADAMS’ COMPLETE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF LAUGHTER, 1996)

If we each go our own way, the body of Christ will suffer. If we strive for a common vision, if we take up the cross daily and follow Jesus, we will know the joy that is the fruit of those whose lives are filled with the Holy Spirit. May this week find our commitment to Jesus grow in His Spirit.

WEEKLY SCRIPTURE PASSAGELet us pray together the verse from Psalm 90 acknowledging God's sovereignty for all eternity.“Lord, you have been our refuge through all generations. Before the mountains were born, the earth and the world brought forth, from eternity to eternity you are God.” Psalms 90:1-2

REST IN PEACEMay all our deceased parishioners live forever in the joy of the Resurrection…

“LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME!” – Mt 10:14

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is coming soon to St. Columbkille!

Beginning Sunday, October 6, 2019, and continuing every Sunday thereafter, Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) will be held during the 10:30 Mass for all children 4-8 years old. This is a great opportunity for the children of our parish to attend

Sunday Mass with their families, but at the same time, hear the Word of God in a way they can more easily understand.CLOW takes place during Mass in a place separate from, but nearby, the main assembly. Everyone gathers together in church for the beginning of Mass, then just after the Collect (Opening Prayer), the congregation divides. The priest invites the children to come forward to listen to God’s Word. The adult CLOW leader comes forward as well, and is given a blessing by the priest before leading the children to the church basement for a separate Liturgy of the Word adapted for children. The Liturgy of the Word continues as usual for the main assembly while simultaneously, the Liturgy of the Word for Children takes place in the church basement! The children return to the main assembly after the Universal Prayer (Petitions) and remain with their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the conclusion of Mass.Having CLOW at our regular Sunday Mass enables children to hear God’s Word and respond to it in a manner appropriate to their age and understanding. It is part of the regular Sunday Mass, adapted to the abilities and needs of children. It is not a child-care program, nor is it an arts and crafts session intended to keep young people busy while the adults are at Mass. It is an authentic celebration of the same, but adapted, Liturgy of the Word that the adult community experiences. There is no fee, sign-up or registration for CLOW. Quite simply, when children are at the 10:30 Mass, they should come forward when invited by the priest, and follow the CLOW leader to the church basement. In the weeks preceding October 6th and the start of CLOW, take your children down to the church basement and show them where they will be celebrating their Liturgy of the Word. In this way, they will become familiar with the basement and know where they are being led when the time comes to leave the main assembly for CLOW.Please consider becoming involved with this new parish ministry. We need volunteers for CLOW and have many different levels and opportunities for involvement with flexible and varying time commitments. If you are interested in helping or have any questions, please contact Shari Chmura, Director of Faith Formation, at [email protected] or 216-524-1987, ext 43.

CATCHING FIRE – YOUNG ADULT GROUPOur “Catching Fire” young adult group (ages 18 to 39) will meet on Sunday evenings. The group meets in the Parish Center from 7:00-

9:00 p.m., with its focus being prayer, fellowship and faith formation with the mission for forming intentional disciples of Jesus. Please join us Sunday evening, September 15th.

PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION (PSR)We will begin the new PSR school year with a special Mass and orientation session for all PSR families on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. At least

one parent per family is required to accompany their student(s) as we gather to ask God’s blessings on the start of our new catechetical year. Parents and students should report directly to the CHURCH where we will begin the evening with the Celebration of the Eucharist.Information packets, including teacher and classroom assignments, calendars, newsletters, and sacramental information, will be given to all who have registered. Following Mass and a brief orientation session in the church, parents and students will move to the school building to meet their teachers and visit their classrooms. We look forward to seeing you on September 16th and are most grateful for the opportunity to support and assist you in your responsibility to raise your children in the Catholic faith. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Shari Chmura, Director of Faith Formation, at 216-524-1987, ext 43 or [email protected].

BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASSSATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST

Are you planning to have a child baptized in the next few months? Have you attended a Baptism preparation class? Baptismal preparation is required for parents before their

first child’s Baptism. The next Baptism class will be held in the Parish Center at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21st. Call the Parish Office at (216) 524-1987 to register.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION CHAPELThe Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, located in the Parish Center, is open daily between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. You DO NOT need an appointment. CATECHIST NEEDEDAre you willing to share your faith with the children of our parish? The St. Columbkille Parish School of Religion (PSR) needs you!! The success of our program depends on dedicated individuals of our parish willing to share their time, talents and faith as catechists. What is a Catechist? The word catechist comes from a Greek word meaning “to echo.” A catechist echoes the Word of God to others. We especially need catechists to spread the Good News and share their Catholic faith with children in Grade 1 and Grade 3. Please consider becoming involved in this special ministry. Training, tools, and support will be provided. If you are interested or would like to learn more about becoming a catechist in our PSR program, please contact Mrs. Shari Chmura, Director of Faith Formation, at 216-524-1987, ext 43 or [email protected].

MUSIC MINISTRY SEEKING NEW MEMBERSSt. Columbkille Music Ministry is seeking new members! We are especially in need of female singers and people who have been in school, college or church choirs in the past and are looking for that spiritual connection and community that we offer here. COLLECT BLESSINGS FOR HEAVENPlease consider volunteering for a couple hours during the 31st Annual Appalachian Collection on Saturday, September 21, in the St. Basil the Great parking lot. To register for a time slot and view photos from last year’s event, please visit www.kofc14406.org/Collection and complete the scheduling sheet. All that is involved is removing donations from cars and placing them in the 53’ long trailers. It is as simple and easy as that. All help is welcome. Young, old, and in-between. This is a perfect event if you or your organization is looking for service hours. If you don’t need service hours, consider helping anyway – it will aid your entry into heaven. Take the time, you will not regret it.Some statistics from last year: Last year’s collection brought 75 volunteers together contributing 225 volunteer hours during the single day event. 350 vehicles were off loaded. Two 53’ trailers were filled completely. Please call Ken Peters at (216) 849-1434 with questions – hope to see you there. Please consider helping – we make it fun.May God bless you and your family.

31ST ANNUAL APPALACHIAN COLLECTIONThis year, the Appalachian Collection will support people in need residing in the Appalachian Mountains in the Eastern Kentucky area. The Knights of Columbus of Our Lady of Charity Council 14406 would appreciate donations of household goods, including small appliances, cooking utensils, dishes, sheets, blankets, towels, all clothing and toys. Monetary donations will also be accepted and are greatly appreciated. Receipts will be provided for all donations.“When considering your donation, please keep in mind that broken items or items that are harshly used are more of a burden to the Collection than a blessing.”A good rule of thumb defining a worthy donation – donate only items that you would donate to your neighbor and they would use. A complete list of items needed (and not needed) can be found at www.kofc14406.org/Collection.Please review the list to determine if the item you plan on donating is needed. If you wish to learn more about the Christian Appalachian Project, their website is www.christianapp.org. Please bring your donations to the 53’ trailer in the St. Basil Church parking lot on: Saturday, September 21st 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Unfortunately, we are unable to pick donations up – items must be brought to the above collection point. Many volunteers are needed to help with this project. If you are able to help in any capacity, please sign up at www.kofc14406.org/Collection. You will be glad you took the time. If you have further questions, please contact Ken Peters at 216-849-1434.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATIONHelp our school by clipping the pink Box Tops on products and looking for special Bonus Box Tops that appear on your cash register receipts at participating stores. It’s easy to do…just clip them and keep them in a baggie or envelope marked “Box Tops,” and drop them into the collection basket. It is a quick and easy way to help our school earn money.
