2. IBM Research - Ireland 2012 IBM Corporation The user can choose which elements of the network (i.e., vehicles, bus stops, etc.) she wants to improve and with which optimization criteria. Information regarding the public urban transportation network of the city under investigation Information regarding the travelers demand, i.e. which are the most frequent trips Information regarding the features of the trips composing the travel demand. Analyzes the performances of the urban public transport network and suggests which are the best transportation infrastructure investments to improve the travelling experience of people with disabilities System to measure the quality of a public transportation network for people with disabilities, and recommend improvements 3. IBM Research - Ireland 2012 IBM Corporation London case study: the problem The London Journey Planner (http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk) suggests the above path from Victoria and Albert Museum to Tate Modern Gallery on the 09 Aug 2012 at 11:35: note how the shortest path that uses all vehicles accessible by people with reduced mobility is 2 times longer and requires more interchanges. (a) With the reduced mobility constraint (b) Without any reduced mobility constraint 4. IBM Research - Ireland 2012 IBM Corporation How accessible is the public transportation system of London for people with disabilities? Using the Origins-Destinations obtained from Oyster Card data to simulate travel demand, we evaluated the routes provided by a journey planner if we require trips to be wheelchair-accessible, and compare them with the shortest routes. Findings: 1.50% of the trips are at least 50% longer if we require the trip to be wheelchair- accessible; 2.Wheelchair-accessible routes require travelers to exchange among more modes (on average 1.11 times more) 5. IBM Research - Ireland 2012 IBM Corporation Which are the best stations that, once made accessible, will provide the highest positive impact for the mobility of people with disabilities? 6.
