Holyshow On Tour In CorkWe caught up with the Holyshow Team at the Midleton Tattoo Show in Cork last weekend. And what a week end it was! Dubbed by the organisers as “the biggest, oldest and best tattoo show in Ireland” it is in its 13th year and draws huge crowds annually. It lived up to the hype with artists, traders, bands both for here and abroad taking part.

The Holyshow Team were flat out from the minute they arrived on the Friday evening till shut down on Sunday night. John Larkin, shop owner, tattooed some of his Navan regulars who made the journey down for more ink and to soak up the festival atmosphere. While also taking bookings from some Cork clients who had made contact via the facebook page with pre booked appointments. On top of this there were quite a few on the spot bookings and walk ins- Jason, from Waterford, was one of these, who came with a specific design from an album cover. John, as ever, put his own personal touch to it by drawing up free hand, his interpretation of the design.

Jason told us he chose John for the job as he likes to go to the show every year and try someone who he feels can “best do the job”. Having looked around the show on the Friday he booked John for 4 hours on Sunday. The tattoo is of a high cross with angels and skulls, very much John’s skill area. Jason was so happy with the work he has booked in for a full sleeve from John and will be making the trips to and from Waterford to Navan to get this work carried out.

John was assisted by his sister Eimear who is currently his apprentice. Eimear an artist in her own right was selling her own hand cut art works called “Paper Cuts” which drew a lot of attention. These pieces are hand cut individual skulls, butterflies and beetles layered to give an almost surreal image, very intricate and detailed. All in all it was very much a family affair, with a very chilled out, friendly vibe, under lied by a strong professional ethos and we were happy to tag along for the ride!

John’s clients Johnny, Tomas and Karl had larger, one off, custom designed pieces completed at the show, these are very much John’s own style and totally original. When asked where he gets his inspiration from John described his interest in abstract and surreal art, old skool comics and a hint of the darkside. John is also inspired by writers such as William Burroughs, Hunter S Thompson and Charles Bukowski. An interesting mix.

Holyshow brought out a new range of T-Shirts in time for the Mideleton Tattoo Show which can be purchased from the shop on 39 Railway St.,Navan. If you check out the Midleton Tattoo Show facebook page you will see they were a popular choice with some of the visitors. To be in with a chance to win one yourself keep an eye on the Holyshow Tattoo facebook and website www.holyshow.com, as they are sure to be the prize in some forthcoming competitions.

Until next time, take it easy and if you fancy some ink.. you know where to go.......HOLYSHOW.

PeoPle getting diagnosed with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes is increasing all around Ireland, affecting those particularly in the country’s main urban regions such as Navan and Dublin.

It is estimated that over 191,000 people have the condition, with around 30,000 remaining undiagnosed. “Type 1 Diabetes would be more common in a younger age group, whereas Type 2 would affect an older age group, although it can also be inherited” says Anne Clarke of the Diabetes Federation of Ireland. “It is on the rise all over Ireland, although in such urbanised regions as Leinster, it is more common”.

“The recent rise in obesity levels would contribute to the development of Diabetes, with men and women in their 40’s and 50’s more at risk of developing Type 2 of the disease, seriously

harming the body’s major organs” said Anne, with symptoms such as lethargy, blurred vision, thirst, weight loss and gain, numbness and an excessive need for the bathroom.

Neuropathy (damage to the peripheral nervous system, affecting the feet), heart disease, kidney failure and blindness can be developed in undiagnosed or unmanaged conditions, leading to a serious deterioration of health.

Early detection, effective treatment and good control of your Diabetes is imperative. If you are worried that you may have it, contact your local GP, where a quick blood test is taken, or talk to a representative from the Diabetes Federation of Ireland.

They can be contacted on their helpline on 1850 909 909, or visit www.diabetes.ie.

NEWS IN BRIEFtrim Vintage Car Rally has announced it will be returning to Trim on the 15th of July. Running since 1985, this will be its 27th year, with an excess of 500 cars and motorcycles on show. There is a number of new attractions running in this year’s show to aid local charities.

Ulster Bank has blamed “IT issues experienced with the RBS Group” as the reason for the huge ongoing technical issues halting transactions in the last few weeks. A number of Navan customers were assured that the problems were to be solved within a matter of days after rumours that the bank’s network had been hacked, however were left waiting for longer than a week without access to financial transactions in their account. The branch is expected to be on shaky ground after the knock in confidence to it’s users.

Have you ever been abroad, and you seem to be the only English speaking family in the entire resort ? It can be frustrating when you’re looking for directions or where there’s a pub that might show the Leinster Final.

Over the past few years, a phenomenon has been gradually taking shape in the resort of Kusadasi in Turkey. Always very popular with the Irish market, there are now THREE Irish owned hotels in Kusadasi, two of which, the Palmin Sunset Plaza and the Sea Pearl cater exclusively for Irish holidaymakers.

No such things as language difficulties there. You can also watch the big GAA games on a giant screen as well.

If you are looking for value this summer, and who isn’t, then Turkey in general and Kusadasi in particular are well worth considering. Its a 4 hour flight, with a 1 hour transfer by road from Izmir Airport.

Kusadasi is a thriving port, and over a dozen cruise ships call there every week during the summer. The main shopping area is close to the port and bargaining is encouraged. Leather goods are a particular speciality. Every Wednesday, the legendary Kusadasi Market takes place, and its a great

day out.Kusadasi has excellent night life, as anyone who has

been to the legendary Bar Street will testify, and it also has some excellent Water Parks, like Aquafantasy and Adaland. Close by are the wonderful Roman ruins at Ephesus, and the Virgin Mary’s House is also a must see.

There are all sorts of accommodation available in Kusadasi from basic self catering up to luxurious 5 star All Inclusive properties, and its a destination that suits all age groups.

If you do go, make sure your accommodation has airconditioning, as temperatures in July/August can be high. How much does it cost ? In peak season (July/August), a weeks self catering will cost you around €479 pp including flights and transfers.

There are great offers in the Palmin Sunset Plaza and Sea Pearl, both 4 star properties, at €499 per person for a week’s B&B. If you prefer, their sister hotel, the Palmin offers All Inclusive for around €699 per person for a week.

Oh, and yes you can also go to the Hotel Palmin for Christmas as well !!!

With a government grant, Snug As A Bug Insulations can insulate your home at a fraction of the normal cost.

You’ll also be doing your bit for the environment by helping to reduce global warming. If your attic and walls are not insulated you could be losing over half the heat from your home!

In recent months the Government has encouraged private householders to install cavity wall and attic insulation under the Warmer House Scheme (WHS) through Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) with subsidised installation schemes.

Additionally, the Home Energy Saving (HES) scheme provides grants to homeowners who are interested in improving the energy efficiency of their home. The scheme is open to all owners of existing houses built before 2006. Sustainable Energy Ireland administers the scheme.

Landlords and owners of multiple properties may also apply, however they must submit a separate application form for each property. If you are a landlord or a management company considering an entire building upgrade, please contact SEI before applying online for the grant

Assistance will be provided by way of fixed grants towards the costs of implementing upgrade measures. The types of measures currently eligible under this scheme are roof insulation, wall insulation, high efficiency boilers and heating control upgrades. There is also a grant for households who choose to get a Building Energy Rating (BER) assessment Before and After the works are completed, however this is not mandatory.

For further details, please go to the following link www.sei.ie/Grants/Home_Energy_Saving_Scheme/

The Irish Government have recently committed to providing €100 million of grants of towards the cost of home insulation. For homeowners this will mean a contribution of up to 30% (€2,500 - €4,000). Announcing the scheme, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan explained that the new measures could lead to heating bill reductions of about €700 per annum for individual households.

With the EU targets of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 20% over the next twelve years,

Ireland’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are warning that the country is facing a major challenge in living up to its Kyoto Protocol commitments. Climate change is one of the major challenges facing the world today, and Ireland’s strategy is to achieve its targets through a reduction in dependency on fossil fuels, and increase in renewable energy and energy conservation measures such as insulation.

The Home Energy Saving Scheme (HES) is a grant aid covering Insulation, Heating System Controls and Double Glazing. The process of securing a grant has four steps, and Snug As A Bug Insulations can help you from start to finish.

There are many reasons to make use of your home insulation grant before winter arrives:With ever-increasing gas and electricity prices, preventing heat from being lost through the • walls and roof is an urgent financial priorityEnergy efficiency is now a crucial environmental issue, and we can all minimise greenhouse • gases by preventing the wasteful loss of heat in our homesInsulation will reduce or even eliminate condensation and mould growth, improving the • appearance and the durability of your homeYour Home Energy Rating is significantly increased• As well as holding the heat in when it’s cold, insulation creates a stable temperature during • warm periods, giving you a comfortable environment all year round

...and that’s not all. Using a grant to get your home insulated will increase the value of your property, repel moisture

penetration, reduce draughts, resist fire and suppress vermin, mildew and fungi. So why wait? An insulation grant gives you a fast track to a better home and lower bills.

With the generous grants available, there’s never been a better time to have loft and cavity insulation installed in your home. Check out our website at www.snugasabuginsulations.ie for further information.

Pairc TailTeann will be host to two leading high school American football teams as part of the Global Ireland Football Tournament (GIFT) 2012, on August 31st. The games will begin at 4pm, with Oak Park High School, from Winnibeg, Minnesota playing Villanova College from Toronto, Ontario. At 7.30pm, the Notre Dame Preparatory High School Saints from Scottsdale, Arizona and Father Judge High School Crusaders of Philadelphia will be going head to head.

Tickets have been sold overseas already to Canada, England, Scotland, Germany and Australia, and are available from between 10 to 15 euro. With a total of 12 teams from Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin being staged at three different venues in and around Dublin and an expected 2,300 visitors coming from abroad to watch the games, Meath and Dublin are expected to rake in €4.5 million in hotel stays, flights, public transport and tourist attractions.

The Trim Bulldogs, Meath’s first American football club, will be providing support for the games at Pairc Tailteann, and the town of Trim will be holding a five day “Feile Americana” festival from August 29th to September 2nd. Tickets for GIFT 2012 are available on www.gift2012.com.

as ParT of the celebrations of Traveller Pride Week (June 18th to 26th), Meath Travellers Workshops were delighted to officially launch “An Tinceir - the Craft of the Tinsmith” a handbook detailing traditional Traveller Tinsmith Skills. The book is a step by step guide on the tools, skills and products learners can make themselves using old methods and traditional tools.

The book was launched on Tuesday 26th June in Trim Castle. The event also introduced the Town of Trim to the Workshop’s acclaimed Living History project. A Barrell Top wagon was pitched up in a faithfully recreated roadside scene of a Traveller encampment from the 1950’s (The 1950’s would be acknowledged as the most recent hay day of Traveller tinsmith skills). The camp also included a traditional tent, campfire (on a board - not on the grass), Travellers in period dress, music and of course a working tinsmith putting some of the lessons from the book into practice.

Meath Travellers Workshops have been running traditional tinsmith courses from it’s premises in Navan for the past year and this manual details in words and photos the practical lessons for anyone to learn from. You can see more of Meath Travellers Workshops activities and interests on two websites:

WiTh The closure of a further number of local shops in the last two months alone, and the possible end to our local A&E service, the future of Navan businesses appears to be on shaky ground. The announcement of the shutting down of e2 Music on Kennedy Road recently came as a great blow to it’s shoppers and employees alike, including the closure of the Music Box on Trimgate Street.

Warning signs came at the beginning of last year, with a Notice of Motion of a rescue plan for local businesses to Navan Town Council being put forward. Councillor Francis Deane who imposed the motion at the time acknowledged that “a solution must be found to address this issue in an effort to prevent even more business haemorrhaging from our town. I acknowledge that high rents are a big factor and landlords must be mindful of this unpleasant truth”.

Not only do these closures mean less revenue and more job losses, e2 played a huge part in supporting and part-running Navan Shamrock Festival, Navan Live and Navan Summerfest. Not forgetting the Music Box, which was host to the only available Ticketmaster outlet in Navan.

Anne Hyland, a volunteer of some of the above events, created a petition on Facebook, summoning 2,000 supporters vying to keep e2 Music running. “e2 Music have been extremely supportive over the years to many community events, and I just wanted to do something to give one of our own some support” she says, “The shops in the high street are closing at an alarming rate, it just means less and less business for the town”.

The ProjecT was the culmination of over 6 years hard work and dedication by the Project Team made up of our Town Clerk Shane Donnelly, Alison Dowling Solstice Arts Centre & Tom French, Executive Librarian in developing something that was unique, inspirational and which would make a positive difference to the quality of life of the people in our Town and beyond by highlighting everything Navan has to offer.

Points of Pride is an interactive walking tour of our Town which tells the story of Navan, acknowledging in a positive manner the difference made by current generations whilst also embracing that carried out by past generations. It is about our sense of belonging, our sense of community, its about educating our children, involving our citizens and attracting visitors to our town.

It was our County Manager Tom Dowling’s idea to develop “Points of Pride” in the County and in particular his desire that Navan, as the County Town, would be the first such Town not only in the County but also in this Country to have an interactive walk of this type.

Pictured at the launch of The Points of Pride Walking Tour of our Town from L to R: Meath County Manager Tom Dowling, Mayor of Navan Anton McCabe and special guest broadcaster Myles Dungan listen to a narration on portable listening devices as part of the project.

TIPS FOR LAWN CARE1. Just Say No to Broad Leaf Weeds Broadleaf weeds can pop up at any time during the

growing season. All lawns are susceptible to broadleaf weeds. Keep turf thick and healthy is the first step in discouraging weed growth.

Post- emergent herbicides can control broadleaf weeds that are actively growing.

2. Giving back to your lawn Grass cycling or returning grass clippings to the lawn, is

a great way to provide your turf with valuable nutrients in the form of organic matter.

3. Remember Remember trees and lawns compete with each other

in home landscapes. Proper care and maintenance will encourage them to grow well together.

What aRe the moSt commoN iNSect/

4. Red thread Red thread disease grows during humid weather. Red

thread causes the lawn to have a bleached tanned patchy appearance. Forms bright red thread like strands near the tips of the leaves

5. Fairy Rings Fairy rings are fungal disease. In Ireland fairy rings

appear normally in late summer when soil temperatures are at their peak. There are 3 types of fairy rings.

A ring of toadstools on the lawn where there is sufficient moisture. One or more rings of deep green, lush looking

grass. Area of dead / yellowed grass or bare soil between lush rings. The fungal threads that form in fairy rings are very densely packed and normally reach down to soil depths of 20cm, effectively starve the grass roots of both water and nutrients and preventing water intake.

6. Scutch Grass You will probably notice this year there is a lot of scutch

grass in your lawn this is due to the mild spring and high soil temperatures, resulting in the severe outbreak of this grass space. Scutch is a common name on this grass when 90% of time the proper name on this grass is Yorkshire Fog. Lawns can be treated to rid off this ugly coarse grass.

7. insect problems You will notice when these occur as you will see the grass

yellowing off in patches and the grass sward thinning out and dying off. This is due to the root of grubs such as the leather jackets, cherere grubs, frit fly, the St Marks fly and other species. Another tell tale sign of grub problems will be crows picking vigorously

8. aeration Aeration will encourage a healthier root system going

into winter. Aeration is one of the best things that can be done for your lawn. Performed regularly, this service encourages root development, breaks up the thatch layer, and makes it easier for air, water and nutrients to reach the root zone.

For all of the above why not avail of a free consultation with no obligation.

1. Choose the right colourBelieve it or not, having a more desirable car colour could add €200 to €500 onto the value of a car. Unusual colours such as yellow, orange, or pink are generally regarded as less desirable in comparison to colours such as silver, black or currently white.

2. Sort out those alloy wheelsBadly scratched or tarnished alloys wheels can take €50 to €100 per alloy off the car’s value. Alloys are one of a number of things that make your car stand out from the crowd. Scuffed and kerbed alloy wheels can be painted and lacquered to the original pristine condition. Car Medic offer a mobile alloy wheel repair service so alloys can be repaired at your convenience, to the highest quality and in cost-efficient manor.

3. Keep tyres in check and prevent puncturesBalding tyres, or those near the minimum tread limit, are also likely to impact the value of the car - possibly by as much as €100 to €150 per wheel. Tyre Medic’s unique tyre puncture prevention system helps prevent those dangerous and worrying punctures, saving business expenses downtime, whilst protecting vehicles and the passenger from danger. Tyres treated with this unique gel can also give up to 10% extra driving time. This gel is also dyed so dangerously damaged areas can easily be inspected.

4. Check your windscreenBy simply ensuring there are no cracks or chips in your car windscreen, you could boost the value of the car by as much as €300. Stone chips, star breaks, bulls eyes and cracks can be near-invisibly repaired by Car Medic without replacing the entire windscreen.

5. Check for dentsAgain, by ensuring there are no bad dents or scratches in your car, you could boost the value by as much as €200 to €300 per damaged panel. Removing any dents or scratches is also likely to increase buyer interest. The Car Medic Repair System complies with the latest EPA (Environment Protection Agency). All paints are water based paints and chemicals meet VOC levels set by the EPA at a fraction of the price of auto body shops.

6. Check the upholsteryThe inside of the car is just as important as the outside. Poorly maintained trims and upholstery are not only likely to deter buyers, but they are also likely to lower the car’s value of by as much as €100. Dashboard holes and scratches, holes from mobile phone kits and scratches can be filled and colour matched to suit the original colour of your dashboard. Upholstery and carpets in both plain and patterned velour can be brought back to their original condition often within 15 minutes.

7. Clean up!Similarly, make sure you keep your car clean inside and out. It may not increase the vehicles value but you will certainly sell the faster by simply cleaning out any litter, grime and dust. Also be careful with pets in the car - if they damage the interior, this could wipe hundreds off the resale price.

8. Get it servicedEnsuring your car has been regularly serviced correctly could boost the value by around €500 to €1000. Always follow your car’s servicing schedule and make sure you get your service book stamped. If you’re getting your car serviced at a local independent garage, make sure it’s VAT-registered and that the parts used are genuine manufacturer products. You should get receipts and part serial numbers to prove this.

9. Bumper Scuffs Everyday bumper scuffs are the most common offenders on a vehicle. Split or deeply scratched and scored bumper pads can be repaired fast, filled and retextured back to the original finish by Car medic without replacing the bumper or repainting to entire bumper.

10. Sort out the NCTFinally, ensuring you have an NCT certificate before you sell your car is likely to increase its value by around €500. So avoid selling your car when there are only a few weeks left on the NCT

KeLLs TypeTraiL was launched at 7pm on the 29th of June in the grounds of St. Columbas (Church of Ireland), under the round tower and high crosses. This was the third year of the event which aims to celebrate and re-establish Kells as a centre for Type- Type being the visual representation of a letter, developing into an art form.

The theme for this year was the word “Belong” and the TypeTrail consisted of 20 art installations at various locations around the town of Kells. Each installation was a different interpretation of the word “Belong” included several translations into the languages of all the nationalities represented in the Kells area.

A free map of the 20 installations was available and there were guided tours on the Saturday and Sunday by some of the artists involved. A lecture was given by calligrapher Tim O’Neill in Heafort House on the evolution of calligraphy through to type.

For the kids there was a series of children workshops in the Kells Resource Centre. The focus was on the letter as an artform. And for the big kids, as well as the little kids, there was a screening of the award winning animated movie “The Book of Kells” in the St Vincent de Paul theatre with a special introduction given by the creator of the movie John Smith on the inspiration behind the making of the movie.

With the reports doing the rounds this week about the new Apple iPhone having a different connection to the previous generations. I started thinking about the types of products that are available for phones these days.

I understand that a lot of the Apple accessories are made to have the device “docked” or physically connected in some way.

Having attended a gadget show in the UK very recently I got to see the huge amount of newer accessories that are being released for mobile phones. From headsets to printers and power backup solutions.

I have rekindled my love for music since I invested in a set of Nokia Purity by Monster head phones – the quality is out of this world!!

Nokia have certainly upped their game with the introduction of their Nokia Gear range of accessories. I am sure that if the reports of the new iPhone are true, all the 3rd party companies will be working furiously to get accessories out that are compatible with the new phone.

So with that in mind – the next time you are looking for a docking station; maybe consider buying something that has a Bluetooth connection, rather than having to rely on a physical connection from one particular model of phone.

Hi Readers,Hope you are all keeping well and thank you for your feedback from last month’s article and I am delighted you are enjoying the read, and finally meeting you up here at Mystudio. I know the summer months are here and our focus is on the lean body so I am going to briefly talk about how that can happen.

Losing weight and getting a lean body fast is as much a mental endeavor as it is a physical one. If you don’t have your mind set to lose weight and get a lean body, you will never do it.

There are three things you must change to get a lean body. They are your mindset, your exercise routine and the food that you eat.

You must refocus your thoughts and always think positive thoughts about the ease of getting a lean body. Exercise is mandatory - keep reading to find out the two very best exercises.

Proper nutrition is the key to getting a lean body. Eating the correct foods for fat loss and eliminating the foods that cause weight gain is how you will get a lean body fast.

Using proper nutrition is the key for how to get a lean body. You have to have the right balance of nutrients so that your body is correctly helping you to use nutrients as it should. This includes eating adequate amounts of protein from wild caught fish, grass fed meats and organic eggs.

Your carbohydrates should consist of organic vegetables and fruits. Do not eat any processed foods or drink fizzy drinks. When you start eating healthy whole organic foods and rid your body of

chemicals, pesticides, and growth hormones your body will function better and you will lose weight and get a lean body very quickly. All of these chemicals cause bloating, weight gain and disease.

Now that you know how to get a lean body with proper nutrition, there is no excuse not to start today. You will have more energy, look and feel better and finally have that lean body. Group classes are another brilliant way to motivate yourself and get into action, all our classes here cater for all levels of fitness from the complete beginner with low confidence right up to the “fitness junkie” you don’t want to be spending hours aimlessly walking around the gym, one 45 minute class of low and high impact routines will help toward a leaner you. But remember more work happens at the table…..

This Summer at MYSTUDIO:…….. We here at Mystudio know how difficult it is to make time for yourself to exercise and keep a routine going due to the kids been off school, so we designed a class that both parent and child can attend. We also have a student card organised for the older teenager so they can pop into a class with you. We have put on more evening classes and weekend classes for you to choose from. Last Hope Charity is calling out to the public for fosterers, people looking to adopt or those who can help. The charity has been working tirelessly for the last few years in conjunction with the Meath Dog pound, the Meath Dog Wardens, Cavan SPCA, other organisations involved in helping animals and of course members of the public.

Not only is it now “kitten season” in shelters around the country, but the flow of dogs, puppies and a host of other animals being surrendered or dumped never ceases. Last Hope Animal Charity is at a particular disadvantage, as the only space available for animals to be taken in is a very small number of kennels located on the Trim Road.

Surrounding rescues in Dunboyne, Drogheda, Dundalk and Monaghan have all been vying for the kindness of the public, as resources can be hard to come by with such large volumes of animals coming in. Just recently, Monaghan Dog Pound had to face the prospect of putting a large number of dogs to sleep, due to lack of space and the dire need for homes. Thankfully, the public stepped in to help and all the animals were rescued or put in foster homes.

There are a number of ways to help Last Hope Charity however, to ensure something like this will not happen. The “For a Fiver” campaign is a monthly collection of dog and cat food, beds, crates, and all other pet related items that are donated to Last Hope Animal Charity. On the first Saturday of each month, there are designated pick-up points of these supplies all over Meath, Westmeath and Cavan.

Transport for animals from shelters to homes and vice versa is always needed, including monetary donations which can be made through www.lasthope.ie. The site, and also their Facebook page, takes enquiries about fostering, volunteering, fundraising, adoption and lists all the animals currently looking for homes.

Ben GiLroy, member of People for Economic Justice is speaking out on behalf of business owners everywhere. As a member of People for Economic Justice and Defend Our Homes League (DOHL) and a citizen of Navan, Mr. Gilroy believes that a huge portion of people across the nation don’t know their rights when it comes to banks and the receivers they appoint; “this is what we are trying to highlight for people everywhere – you do have rights. Most people are simply too afraid to act on them when these agents are sent in”.

Just over two months ago, there was uproar when long-running business Stitch ‘N’ Fix It in Navan town was set upon by a receiver appointed by the National Irish Bank. The receiver had turned up, changed the locks and appointed security guards in and outside the building, unknown to the owner of the business, Jerry Burns.

“What these people seem to forget is that receivers are actually working “for” the owners of these businesses, and if they are not performing their duty of care properly, they can be sacked; not by the banks, but by the owner of the place that they are trying to take”.

Ben put together a notice for the receiver informing him he had been sacked, and the premises were given back to Jerry. “Never mind the fact the receiver didn’t have a clue of his own job, there was no Tri Party Agreement presented or signed by any parties”. This agreement is a contract between the bank

and owner of the business to say it is to be repossessed.“The receiver came back again but still had nothing signed and so he was simply trespassing at this

stage” continues Ben. Jerry Burns was summoned by the High Court for a second time, and shockingly has spent two days in prison since. The judge ruled he had been in “contempt of court”, despite there blatantly being no sign of a signature by the judge on any documentation to allow the repossession of his premises.

“If the judge had signed an order in the first place, he wouldn’t have had to go through this. He has done nothing wrong. It’s completely unlawful and total coercion. The judge gave no reason at all why she had favoured the receiver in the first place, and now there is an ongoing court case over it”.

Ben and the team and supporters of People for Economic Justice are currently working on a feature-length documentary due to be released in two to three months, highlighting the corruption and injustice in Ireland with receivers and commercial courts. “It is like this all over Ireland, it’s just crazy. The injustice you see will be shocking, it’s going to be an eye-opener for a lot of people”.

Jerry Burns, owned Stitch N Fix business in Navan when the got into difficulty with banks. Jerry attempted to contact the banks for a resolution or response, and when he got nothing he requested documentation, which is when the receivers were suddenly sent in by banks, put security in and outside of building and changed locks, unknown to Jerry.

On advice from Ben, a list of questions was sent in to bank to see if he was performing his duties properly as receiver, questions that should have been answered, and he refused to answer.

Had he seen a signed contract between bank and Jerry Burns known as Tri Party agreement. If mortgage has been sold or securitised on, as is nature of banks from last 10 – 15 years then they’ve lost the power to act as receiver. He hadn’t so they served a notice to say he was fired from his role as receiver. Guards turned up after scuffle, said that it was a civil matter and so it wasn’t up to them. Gilroy and burns changed locks back and returned possession to Jerry.Few weeks later Jerry burns was summoned to High court, Gilroy went with him as a Mackenzie friend, a supporting/helping friend in court. Barrister for receiver jokingly said will only take five mins, judge was joking with him after he said they had fired receiver, then they explained why as he was not performing his duty of care, and they quietened down.

Lawful right to sack any agent or receiver who is not acting on his duty of care. – do many people know this? Judge didn’t know what to say, barrister didn’t know what to say. Law book had to be brought to court for them. Case went on for two hours, was adjourned for two hours, and when they returned judge said she was in favour of receiver and wouldn’t say why, and wouldn’t give reason for another three weeks, and would give it in writing only.

Real reason? – couldn’t think of any reason. No tri party agreement was ever seen. Breach of duty of care, never addressed in court. No justice in commercial courts. You cannot force an agent upon you with unlawful actions, when they are actually working “for you”, and so can be sacked by you.

Early May, receiver sends notification to Jerry to say he will be back to repossess premises.Gardai arrived after lengthy dispute, where receiver appeared extremely uneasy, and was unable to answer questions. He again failed to possess premises.

In the meantime, those wanting to find out more or keep up to date on Ben’s work should visit the People for Economic Justice’s Youtube channel, and visit their website on

Local Ulster Bank staff were on hand at each event to answer any questions about the mortgage process and the range of mortgage options available.

Speaking at the Trim event Elaine Moran, Ulster Bank Trim branch manager, said: “Whether you’re buying your first home, moving up the property ladder or just looking for a better deal, you’ll find all the support you need at your local Ulster Bank. We are very much open for mortgage business and we see events such as this as a great one stop shop for local people to discuss their needs without making an appointment. We can give customers an indication of the amount they would be eligible to borrow and how much their monthly repayments would be to help them make an informed decision when looking at properties.”

Semus Glennon pictured at his retirement function. Wilkinstown Active Retirement Group held a very enjoyable function recently to pay tribute to Seamus Glennon, who retired as chairman. Throughout the 17 years in which he held that office, Seamus devoted immeasurable time & energy. The loyalty, dedication, and friendship that he both demonstrated and encouraged within the group will be a treasured legacy. On the night, Seamus received several presentations from the group.

His wife, Mary received a bouquet of flowers, in recognition of her many musical contributions and friendship over the years. A special word of thanks was extended to James McGinley, JMG Travel, who came all the way from Donegal to make a special presentation to Seamus. Doughty’s Deli Catering (Wilkinstown) did the catering and and the entertainment was provided by the local Curran Brothers and Richard Farrelly.

Both were greatly enjoyed by all. Best wishes were also extended to new chairman, Johnny Doggett, and to the continued success of the group. Seamus will be a hard act to follow.

In the difficult economic times we face, it is great to see that Navan is continuing to develop and transform into a Town that is admired by the entire Community and visitors alike. There is no doubt that Navan now has one of the most unique public realm area’s in the country. It is such a high quality finish, which has completely transformed an area.

We have seen in the past year how the communities in Navan have bought into the pride of place Initiative thereby complementing the great work of the outdoor staff of Meath Co Co & Navan Town Council. When you marry both together the community becomes a family. The Mayor, Cllr Anton McCabe acknowledged the patience and co-operation from the businesses in the Metges Lane area during the carrying out of these much needed Refurbishment Works. He thanked the elected Members for supporting this Project and he paid a special thanks to the County Manager Tom Dowling in driving the transformation of our Town. He finished by thanking Mel Cronin, Project Engineer, MDM Consulting Engineers, Contractor Jim Mulchrone, Martin Gargan Rocks Road Stone for all their efforts in delivering the Project.

Declan “Fabio” O’Brien is thoroughly enjoying his second spell at Drogheda United and has already scored eleven goals this season . Fabio first joined the club in 2001 when he scored 21 goals in his first season and proceeded to captain the Drogs to their historic successes in winning the FAI Cup (2005),two Setanta Cups(2006 & 2007) and  the elusive League Championship  in 2007. The Clonee based striker  is  the club’s all  time  leading goalscorer and has a career total of 132 goals.

It’s been a marvellous first half of the season for Drogheda so farYes it’s great to have climbed to third in the table after beating Derry City last week.We’ve worked really hard to get this far and to be in the semi-finals of the League Cup is  another game to look forward to.

What did you make of the recent news that Monaghan have withdrawn from the league?Having spent  last season there I was gutted for all  the players, staff, supporters and manager Roddy Collins.  I’ve a few good friends up there and couldn’t believe how nobody was told anything beforehand. Usually there are a few warning signings first but the news was so sudden. That said I don’t think the club were able to adjust to their promotion to the Premier Division.Last season we often played in front of only 20/30 people and then again,it  is a staunch GAA county.The figures just didn’t add up.

You’ve just turned 32 last month, you really look as if you ‘re thoroughly enjoying your footballYeah I’m delighted to be back playing with Drogheda. I have great time for Mick and Robbie and we’ve a great set-up. I honestly think that we are good enough to win a cup this season.

You are back doing what you do best, scoring goals as you always did with Drogheda, though your switch to Dundalk brought the local rivalry to a whole new level, with even a pig’s head being thrown in your direction!I fully understand the local rivalry between the two clubs and I was only talking to Tony “Boots” Grant recently about the same thing happening to him when he left Shamrock Rovers for arch rivals Bohemians! We found the whole thing to be really amusing to be honest!

When the club went into administration in 2008,feelings on all sides were running high.Looking back I think some people took out their frustration on yourself! I always felt that some people made me a bit of a scapegoat for the club’s troubles at that time. The thing that some people didn’t realise was that I had been in and out of the team through a knee injury and had actually missed the previous two games !I’m glad things have moved on as I’ve so many fantastic memories with Drogheda and it’s great to be part of such an excellent team going so well in the top half of the table!

You’ve been doing your coaching badgesYes I’m doing my B Licence this year.I would hope to go on to be a coach after I’ve finished playing.

You’ve been a full-time professional for most of your career.Have you been able to adjust to a different career since you’ve gone back part-time?                                       Yes I really enjoyed being full-time with Drogheda,St

Pat’s and in Malta with Valletta, but all that’s changednow and I’m lucky to have a job as Assistant manager

with EducoDo you keep in touch with

many of the Drogheda players from previous years?I find Twitter a great way to keep in touch especially

as many of the lads are abroad nowadays,Shane Robinson & Sami Ristila in Finland,Brian Shelle

in Australia,Simon Webb in Brazil, but one of mybest mates is Gary “Gaz” Rogers ,currrently goalkeeperwith Sligo Rovers.I know Gaz from way back when hewas with Drogheda and also when we were both with

St.Pat’s. He’s gone on to be the best keeper in theleague, in my opinion!

Dunboyne Girls finish Runners-Up inAll-Ireland Finals of FAI Schools 5-a-side

THe gIrLs from Dunboyne Senior NS came agonising close to emulating the magnificent All-Ireland success of the boys from Athboy NS when they finished runners-up to Monageen( Limerick) in the National Finals of Section B for Large schools played in Athlone.After advancing in March from the Meath section, Dunboyne progressed to emerge victorious in both the North Leinster Finals and Leinster Finals (where they won all three games) at the MDL in Navan.Quay Ns 1-2 Dunboyne sNs

The Leinster Champions  opened  the  scoring  straight  from  the  start when Anna O’Dwyer’s  cross  from    the left flank found Rachel Mc Dermott unmarked in the box and her superb strike gave Dunboyne the perfect lead. Moments later their score was doubled. This time O’Dwyer crossed from the right with Margaret Leonard turning goal-scorer  to hammer home from distance. Ballina soon settled  into game and a blistering counter-attack  from Andrea Langan made the score 2-1 as Langan’s left-footed drive nestled perfectly into the bottom corner. Niamh McDermott was equal to the Mayo school’s late challenge as she palmed the ball over the bar on two occasionsgaelscoil Ultain 1-1 Dunboyne sNs

Dearbhla Curran scored a last minute equaliser for Dunboyne against a physical Monaghan team after Niamh McDermott pulled off  some magnificent  saves  for    the  team managed by  teachers Donal Scanlon and Michelle McDonnell.    Despite  conceding  an  early  goal,  the Meath  school  piled  on  the  pressure  in  the  dying  moments eventually leading to  a much deserved equaliser.Dunboyne sNs 1-1 Monaleen Ns(Limerick)

The final game in the blitz format was to decide the winner. Munster Champions Monaleen only required a point from their final game while Dunboyne needed a win to snatch the title. Good early pressure from Limerick’s Taine Amodeo opened the scoring. A quick response from Meath resulted in an equaliser, courtesy of some neat  passing putting Dearbhla Curran  through on goal who made no mistake. Monaleen’s breakaway efforts   were brilliantly saved by McDermott. The second half could have seen the game go either way in a pulsating conclusion with Meath putting the Limerick defence under severe pressure for long periods of the game. However it was the Limerick girls who held out to take the point required to lift the All-Ireland Ireland title for 2012. A worthy Dunboyne SNS came  second place in a wonderful finale to the day’s events. Anna O Dwyer was another in superb form for Dunboyne as was Aisling Flynn who starred in all the previous games.DUNBOYNe seNIOr Ns1. Niamh McDermott 2. Abbie Reilly 3. Rachel McDermott 4. Margaret Leonard 5. Anna O’Dwyer 6. Grace Dunne 7. Dearbhla Curran8. Niamh Farrell
