The AccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ elastomeric infusion pump is a mechanical disposable pump with a soft or hard case. It is used for the continuous application of drugs.
AccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ elastomeric infusion pumps offer clinicians and nurses the possibility to give patients medication in a safe and accurate manner. The pumps are designed to cater for continuous infusion with predetermined dose. As there are no battery or mains supply needed, the patient can be ambulatory, and also free from risks associated with device failure during infusion. The elastomeric in-fusion pumps are available in two versions —AccuFlo™ with a soft case and AccuFlux™ with a hard case.
Which version used is dependent on the patient’s needs, the infusion time, the per-sonal preference and the regulations for disposables.
Both AccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ come complete with integrated extension line, clamp, air venting and particle filter and instructions for use. In some models, there is also a light protective pouch provided. Optional acces-sories available are carrying bags.
Application RangeAccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ is designed for pa-tients requiring intravenous, subcutaneous or epidural administration of drugs. Drugs such as cytostatics, antibiotics, antimy-cotics, virustatics and analgesics can be infused. In addition it can also be used for rehydration and parenteral nutrition.

Details
AccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ has a specially de-signed balloon-like silicone reservoir that exerts mechanical pressure when filled. Medication flow is regulated by a microbore tube or glass orifice. The combination of the pressure and flow restriction deter-mines the desired flow rate. The fluid path materials used in AccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ are silicone, ABS, DEHP free PVC and Polycar-bonate.
AccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ has a unique design in its extendable telescopic core. When medication is filled, this core extends lengthwise while the balloon reservoir expands outwards. This feature reduces the initial spike in flow rate which is common in elastomeric pumps. Together with the
design of the one-way valve, located at the filling port, this feature helps to lower the force needed to fill the pumps. The valve is anti-siphon, so removal of contents after the pump is filled is not possible.
The silicone reservoir allows trapped air to dissipate even though the pump has an integrated air venting filter.
The clamp allows priming, infusion initia-tion as well as interruption.

Filling instructions
Manual fillingUse a luer lock syringe, preferably with 50 ml/60 ml maximum volume for manual filling. A smaller syringe will reduce the strength required to overcome resistance. In order to reduce the number of aspira-tions, connections and disconnections, a 3 way stopcock or a transfer set may be used. Follow the manufacturer’s recom-mendations for drug reconstitution and instructions for use.
DirectionsUse aseptic techniques at all times dur-ing filling. Use appropriate solution for dilution to the desired concentration and
volume. Aspirate the infusion solution into the syringe with male luer lock tip. It is recommended to purge the tubing with saline (NaCl) before adding medication.
Priming technique for drugs prone to precipitation, e.g. 5-FU▸ Fill the AccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ with 10 ml
of diluent first.▸ Using the below priming method, prime
the tubing.▸ Fill the remaining volume with diluent
and medication. At completion, the dilu-ent will fill the tubing, protecting it from precipitation, while the pump reservoir will contain the medication.
Step ❶ Aspirate the infusion solution into the syringe with male luer lock tip.
Step ❷ Flip open the top cap of AccuFlo™ to expose the filling port. Unwind the cap of AccuFlux™.
Step ❸ Attach the filled syringe. Be careful not to overtighten the luer fitting as this could damage the medication filling port. On no account is a needle to be used during the filling process as this will puncture the valve in the filling port.
Step ❹ Close the tubing clamp. Inject the contents of the syringe. Remove the syringe from the filling port. Repeat this process until the pump is filled to the predeter-mined volume.

Technical Data
▸ AccuFlo™: Sizes: ∅ 120 × 80 mm (up to 120 ml)/∅ 120 × 100 mm (from 120 ml), Weight: 61 g (up to 120 ml)/71 g (from 120 ml)
▸ AccuFlux™: Size: ∅ 70 × 138 mm, Weight: 110 g
▸ Length of infusion tube: 1,450 mm▸ Max. filling pressure: < 1 bar▸ Particle filter: 1,2 µm▸ Air filter: 0,02 µm▸ Delivery accuracy: ± 10 %
Use
▸ Chemotherapy▸ Analgesia/pain treatment▸ Antibiotic treatment▸ Desferal therapy▸ Parenteral nutrition
Step ❺ When the AccuFlo™ has been filled, remove the filling port cap from its sterile unit pack and use it to close the filling port by turning clockwise. Flip the top cap to close it. AccuFlux™: Put the cap back on the filling port. The medication label (if provided) can be folded as a flag around the tubing or pasted over the outer cover of the pump.
Step ❻ To prime, attach the patient end cap to the patient connector. The end cap is red/orange and a sterile unit packed. Open the clamp to allow the tubing to be filled. Slightly loosen the patient end cap and any air trapped in the line will be purged. By loosening and tightening the patient end cap the air bubbles will dislodge themselves to the end of the tubing. When all air is expelled, close the clamp and tighten the patient end cap.

Knowledge
Factors affecting flow rates Effects of temperatureAccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ are calibrated for 31 deg C / 88 deg F. In order to maintain stated flow rates during infusion, the glass flow restrictor should be in close contact with the patient’s skin. For every 1 deg C above or below this temperature, the flow rate will increase or decrease by approximately 2.5 %. An increase in temperature results in an increase in flow rate and vice versa.
Effects of fill volumeFilling the pump LESS than nominal volume generally results in SLOWER flow rates. The flow duration will however be shorter as a result of less volume being delivered. Filling the pump MORE than nominal volume gen-erally results in FASTER flow rates. The flow duration will however be longer in view of the higher volume being delivered.
Effects of diluentAccuFlo™/AccuFlux™ flow rates are calculat-ed using 0.9 % normal saline (NaCl) as dilu-ent. Using dextrose 5 % (D5W) as a diluent or adding any drug of greater viscosity than normal saline will increase delivery time by 10 %. When filled to nominal volume, the flow accuracy is ± 15 % of the labelled flow rate for pumps with 50 ml/hrs or higher flow rate. For pumps with slower than 50 ml/hrs flow rate, the flow accuracy is ± 10 % of the labelled flow rate against a back pressure of 40 cm of water.
