Authorised Person Confined Spaces Refresher AP18

This course is designed to meet the essential requirements for 'controlling the entry and work' in Confined Space, required by the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 and the MOD Safety Rules and Procedures contained within JSP 375 Volume 3 Chapter 6.

Who will benefit Suitably qualified personnel who have been nominated for appointment as Authorising Engineer or Authorised Person confined spaces

Purpose To provide delegates with the practical skills and the required level of understanding of the MOD Safe Working Procedures associated with entering and working in confined spaces.

What will be covered • Overview of associated statutory legislation • Introduction to MOD Safety Rules and Procedures for Confined Spaces • Scope of the MOD Safety Rules and Procedures for Confined Spaces • Hazardous atmospheres, detection and monitoring • Risk assessments associated with confined spaces • Management, application and control of documentation • Operational appointments, roles and duties of appointed personnel • Personal protection and hygiene measures • Mechanisms of breathing and the need for breathing apparatus (B/A) • Selection and use of Escape B/A • Selection and use of Self Contained B/A • Emergency Procedures • Practical exercises • Candidates will be assessed in accordance with current MOD requirements

Additional Information Candidates intending to take part practical exercises involving the use of breathing apparatus, are advised of the need to provide evidence that they meet the level of medical fitness required by the MOD safety rules covering confined spaces.

As the course has an external practical element, delegates are advised to bring outdoor protective clothing.

Delegates attending this course who are to be appointed under MOD Safety Rules, should be in possession of a completed and countersigned log book at the beginning of the course.

Duration A one week course, beginning at 1000 on Monday and finishing at 1300 on Friday.

Who will benefit All persons involved with (Confined Spaces) on The MOD Estate who have a mandatory requirement to comply with MOD Safety Rules and Procedures, for work in Confined Spaces contained within JSP 375 Volume 3 Chapter 6

Purpose To provide the delegate with an overview to the Confined Space Regulations 1997 and the MOD Safety Rules & Procedures for Confined Spaces.

What will be covered • Overview of associated legislation relating to Confined Spaces • Introduction to MOD Confined Spaces Safety Rules and Procedures • Roles, Duties and Appointment Procedures for: - AP Confined Spaces - PinC Confined Spaces - Working Team Confined Spaces • Management, application and control of Documentation • Risk Assessment work planning and method statements associated with Confined Spaces Working

Duration A one day course, beginning at 0900 and finishing at 1630.

Work in Confined Spaces Requiring Escape Breathing Apparatus SKP6 (E)

Work in Confined Spaces requiring Self Contained Breathing Apparatus SKP6 (SC)

Who will benefit Staff who are required to enter Confined Spaces on the MOD Estate and work in accordance with JSP 375 Volume 3 Chapter 6.

Who will benefit Suitably qualified personnel who have been nominated for appointment as Authorising Engineer or Authorised Person Petroleum

Purpose This course is designed to meet the essential requirements for 'Controlling work' on petroleum installation and equipment, required by current legislation and the MOD Safety Rules and Procedures contained within JSP 375 Volume 3 Chapter 5.

What will be covered • Overview of associated statutory legislation • Petroleum Products and Hazards • Scope and application of the MOD Safety Rules for work on Petroleum installations • Combustible Gas Indicators and Oxygen Meters • Personal Protective equipment and Safety equipment • Roles and Duties of appointed personnel • Management, application and control of Documentation • Oxygen and Combustible gas tests • Bulk Fuel Installations - Tanks, Valves, Pipelines, Filters etc • Work on electrical equipment in Hazardous Areas and electrical work co-ordination • Issue of Gas Free Certificates • Practical Exercises - Setting out of Restricted and Hazardous Areas - Use of safety equipment - Issue and cancellation of Permit to Work - Tank entry wearing breathing apparatus - Spillage Procedures • Medical and First Aid Requirements • Candidates will be assessed in accordance with current MOD requirements

Additional information Delegates attending this course who are to be appointed under MOD Safety Rules, should be in possession of a completed and countersigned log book at the beginning of the course.

There are practical exercises involving the use of breathing apparatus. Delegates are reminded of the need to provide current evidence, that they meet the level of medical fitness required by the MOD safety rules for wearing B/A.

Duration A one week course, beginning at 1000 on Monday and finishing at 1300 on Friday.

Reinforcing the essential requirements for 'Controlling' the safe work on petroleum installations and equipment, in accordance with current Health & Safety Legislation and MOD Safety Rules and Procedures contained within JSP 375 Volume 3 Chapters 3 & 5.

Who will benefit Authorised Persons who have a mandatory requirement in accordance with MOD Safety Rules to complete refresher training, to be eligible for re-appointment.

Purpose To provide delegates with the practical skills and the required level of understanding of the MOD Safe Working Procedures associated with petroleum installations.

Who will benefit Prospective Person in Charge who has a mandatory requirement to comply with the MOD Safety Rules & Procedures for Petroleum Installations contained within JSP 375 Volume 3 Chapter 5.

Purpose To provide delegates with an appreciation of the principal aims and objectives of the Safety rules & Procedures for Petroleum Installations.

What will be covered • Introduction to the Petroleum Installations Safety Rules and Procedures • Roles Duties and Appointment procedures for Authorised Persons, and Person in Charge. (Hazardous Areas and Restricted Areas) • Hazardous Area Working Procedures and Documentation • Restricted Area Working Procedures and Documentation • Application of the Safe Working Procedures

Additional information Delegates’ awareness of the requirements and procedures will be assessed by a written end test.

Competent Persons Petroleum Forecourts MP1

A course for thiose staff that are to be appointed or have been given the responsibility to ensure safety during the downloading of petroleum products.

Who will benefit Persons who are nominated to accept or oversee the delivery and or downloading of petroleum products.

What will be covered • An overview of the legislation relating to the delivery, downloading, and storage of petroleum products. • The Characteristics of Petroleum products • Planning the delivery • Preparing for the delivery • Post delivery actions • Emergency provisions

Additional information Whilst this course is aimed and concentrates on the downloading of petroleum products, the information provided on the course are readily transferable to the receipt and downloading of other flammable liquids.

All delegates must be over the age of 18

Duration This is a 1 day course beginning at 0900 and ending at 1630.

The course is designed to meet the essential requirements of safe working procedures on Mechanical systems required by the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000, Provision, Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the MOD Safety Rules and Procedures for Work on Mechanical Systems (JSP 375 Volume 3 Chapter 4).

Who will benefit Suitably qualified personnel who have been nominated for appointment as Authorising Engineer or Authorised Person (Mechanical Systems), or have a mandatory requirement to complete refresher training to be eligible for re-appointment.

Purpose To provide information regarding Mechanical Systems where there is a perceived risk from systems containing relevant fluids, ensure that candidates have a thorough understanding of the MOD’s safety Rules and Procedures for working on mechanical systems and the associated Permit to Work Procedures.

Introduction to Working at Height SKP7

Designed to meet the requirements for the Management, Authorisation and Supervision of Work at Height on the MOD Estate in accordance with the requirements and procedures of MOD Safety Rules and Procedures JSP 375 Volume 3, Chapter 7 Working at Height, Mast, Towers and Fixed Accesses.

Who will benefit Personnel who have been selected for appointment as Co-ordinating Authorising Engineer (C.AE) Authorised Engineers (AE), Co-ordinating Authorised Persons (C.AP), Authorising Persons (AP) or Persons in Charge (PinC) for Working at Height on Masts Towers or Fixed Accessways in accordance with JSP 375 Volume 3, Chapter 7.

Purpose The course has been designed to introduce delegates to the Working at Height Regulations 2005, an understanding of the requirements for a ‘Safe System of Work’ for accessing and working at height and provide them with a thorough and practical understanding of the requirements and provisions of JSP 375 Volume 3, Chapter 7.

Who will benefit For those persons required to undertake leak checking, recovery installation, service and maintenance of stationary refrigeration and heat-pump equipment that contains refrigerants which are classified as either Fluorinated (F) gases or Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS)

Purpose The successful candidates will be qualified to undertake leak checking, recovery, installation and maintenance of equipment in accordance with the F-Gas and ODS regulations 2009.

Purpose The successful candidates will be qualified to undertake leak checking, recovery, installation and maintenance of equipment containing a charge of less than 3kg or 6kg if hermetically sealed. In accordance with the F-Gas and ODS regulations 2009.

This course aims to give delegates a level of understanding of mechanical services that will assist them achieve a multi-skilled status.

Who will benefit M&E staff of a basically electrical background who have or who are about to be given responsibility for work on plant and building services of a predominantly mechanical nature. It is recommended that all students of an electrical discipline attend this course prior to any other mechanical course.
