The Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC) was
established in 1957, by prominent Chambers of Commerce,
Business and Industries Associations in Maharashtra, to
facilitate rapid and balanced economic development of
Maharashtra, under the stewardship of (late) Dr. Dhananjayrao
Gadgil, eminent Economist and former Deputy Chairman,
erstwhile Planning Commission, Govt. of India. The Council acts
as an Economic Think Tank for business & industry and the
Government of Maharashtra.
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has
emerged as a highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian
economy and have contributed significantly in its economic
growth. MSMEs being highly diversified play crucial role in
providing large employment opportunities at comparatively
lower capital cost than large industries. It also reduces regional
imbalances and assuring more equitable distribution of national
income and wealth. Further, it can nurture and support
development of potential new age entrepreneurs to develop a business eco system
that enables globally competitive businesses from India.
Nashik has got second highest working population in service sector (27 %) next to
Aurangabad (31 %) in Maharashtra. It is also listed in “Industrial cum service"
category. Industrial activities of Nasik city and district have grown dramatically and
are ourishing. With a diversified and independent industrial sector, Nashik has
earned its reputation as the one of the best hubs of industrial activity in Maharashtra.
Looking at the different opportunities that are present in the MSME sector, MEDC has
planned the conference for all the stakeholders in the city of Nashik. MEDC intends to
initiate a dialogue between all these participants to deliberate over all the steps to be
taken for the betterment of MSME industy as a whole.
