Media Evaluation

Activity 1We used the black and white

effect on the first shot to try

and show that it is in the past.

The knife prop we used was

big to emphasise the danger

around it and so that it would

show up well on camera. The

basement location was

chosen because it is dark

and secretive and that sort of

location is widely used in

films for the „bad guys‟

hideout. The title font was

used because it was easily

readable, looked good and

because it worked with the

„d‟s‟ (overlaying one on top if

the other).

Activity 2

The character in the opening of “Se7en” has some similarities to “The

Snatcher” in our film opening because the audience doesn‟t see either of

them fully and they both collect pictures of what could be past or future

victims. However, there are also some differences, for example with the

character in “Se7en”, the audience only sees their hands and fingers

whereas there are more body shots of our character.

Activity 4

This person would watch our film

because they like the thrill and the

adrenaline rush that comes from

watching scary movies. Also

because they like trying to figure

out who the „bad guy‟ is.

Activity 5

Our opening would attract our audience because of the mystery

surrounding the “The Snatcher” as you never see their face or

anything to distinguish them from another character, this is similar to

the opening of “Se7en” where the audience doesn‟t see anything of

the character except for his/her hands. Also the audience would

probably want to know what‟s going happen to Louise (the blond

girl) after the title. Another reason why the opening might attract our

audience is because they want to know why one of the characters

seems to get killed in the opening. The unique selling point for our

film is the mystery, the mystery behind who “The Snatcher” is and

the mystery surrounding the girl in the opening who dies.

Activity 6We used iMovie on the Apple

Mac and I learnt more about

how to add effects to clips

because our first clip is in

black and white, also I learnt

how to edit the clips more

closely and how to add music

to a film.

We used a Canon camcorder

and a tripod to film.

Activity 7

I have learnt how to use match on action, shot reverse shot and the

180 degree rule.
