    Evaluation Task One

    1. In what ways does your media product use, develop, orchallenge forms and conventions of real mediaproducts?

Take nine frames from your video and put them into a grid. The nine frames need to represent the following features ofyour music video:

or each of these nine shots, write a couple of sentencese!plaining how they "t the #rief.

    1. $ shot that shows a link #etween lyrics and%or musicand visuals.

This shot is a clear example of Andrew Goodwins theory ofillustration within music videos, stating that a commonconvention of music videos is the imagery in a music videoreecting the lyrics being sung. In this shot, we see ason, thelead character of the music video! pic" up a pair of scissors

and go to cut an image of his late ex girlfriend. As he does so,we hear the lyrics, #And then you cut$ you cut it out.% This shotspeci&cally is among the longest running shots within thevideo, where he scans his eyes and hands across his des"searching for the perfect picture, to the creeping eerie musicbeing played, as he pic"s up the picture of his girlfriend, themusic alters, moving up to a higher tone. As the singer sings#and then you cut$# the shot alters to an over shoulder shot ofason cutting the image, following the lyrics demands.

&. $ shot that typi"es the way a record company wouldwant their artist to #e represented.

In this shot on the top right of the frame we have added the artwor"of our album cover. The album covers presence within the musicvideo ma"es it clear that the character is a fan of the artist, andcreates promotional material for our album. The nature of this shotbuilds o' of the melancholy tone that has been set throughout thevideo, and sets the tone for the type of music that will be availablewithin the album.

). $ shot that demonstrates your use of camera.

In this shot, we can see our use of camera in last years coursewor"video -above, in comparison to this years -bottom. /ast year, weused a +ony 0andycam. The footage that we shot last year, had a farlower 1uality in de&nition, and we used auto$focus, resulting in thecamera occasionally focusing in on the wrong area of the scene. Thisyear I bought a *anon 2+ 3ebel T4i, along with a "it of di'erent si5edlenses, ranging from 67$44mm to 89$6:9mm, and a telescopic lens, inorder to ensure that we were able to capture the perfect types of shotsthat we wanted for our music video. As you can see above, the 1uality

and focus of the image are drastically di'erent. ;ith the new camera,we were able to change the focus in the frame and get a higher 1uality

+. $ shot that demonstrates your use of miseenscene.

In these three shots from our music video, you can see our use ofmise$en$scene. These shots are used in order to give the viewers asense of our lead characters mental issues. The lead character inthe music video is an obsessive, sic", and depressed character, inorder to create the implication of his illnesses we shot some of the

scenes from speci&c angles, presenting to the viewers what statethe character is, or has been, in. These shots present to the

-%. Two shots that you feel demonstrate something thatshows you have watched other music videos.

As opposed to conventional music videos, where an action ta"es place and

we see it in focus, in our video we have moved the focus to an ob

actions he is ma"ing. The lighting in the room is warm, as opposed to thecold blue from the opening scene. This shows the character is morecomfortable in this environment, and more in control of his mental state,emphasi5ed by the presence of his medication. The use of lighting withinthe music video reects the conventions of other music videos, where thedirector has chosen to set a speci&c lighting in order to set a speci&c toneor mood to the music video. The bottom shot is a close up shot, not fully infocus, as you would normally see when displaying a character in a closeup. The droplet from the nose of the character falls on the beat, which is aconvention of many music videos, lin"ing the song to the visuals.*onventionally, the main focus is in the center of a shot. In our case, wemade sure that the character was o' center in order to give the video anirregular tone.
