The Main Production

The Veronicas – Everything I’m Not

Genre is Rock/Pop

Intended length is around 3 and a half minutes.

Story of lyrics is about being with someone who wants to be with someone else and getting revenge on the guy that has done this to you.

Stylistic Influences

I think the general stylistic influences behind both the song and its video is the typical rom-com with a slight twist.

These include films such as Never Been Kissed and Pretty Woman but has a more rock infused style than the typical lovey-dovey music and lyrics of some films resembling the

music of artists such as Lady Gaga and Blondie that tend to sing more about the darker side of love.

Narrative Structure

The video starts with the two performers starting to perform the song.As this occurs there will be cutaways to shots of a guy with a different girl.Following this we will cut back to the performers and after this there will be several different scenarios shown of the performers getting revenge in various ways such as putting up flyers warning girls against this guy, trashing his room and cutting up clothes before ending by utterly humiliating the guy.

Intended Audience

• We are aiming to grab the attention of teenagers aged 16-20, as the plot relates to a situation that many within this age group will be familiar with the story of the song. It will be aimed more at a female audience. Not just because the lead vocalist is female, but the subject of the song is of a girl getting her own back on an unfaithful boyfriend. This is more likely to interest a female audience.

• The revenge tactics will be demonstrated by modern means, which furthers the believe that a younger audience would relate better to the video. Digital manners such as Facebook, mobile phones, and email will be included and, will appeal to teenagers as a result.

Visual Style• The style of visuals will have an attitude about it, to mimic the tone of the song and

what is being said. There will obviously be a lot of quick-cutting and a wide range of camera angles to make the video as visually appealing as possible. There will be only a few, if any, staple camera positions. A majority will be shot with a variety of angles. There will be many different shots of the same scene from different angles, this way there is good opportunity for some interesting dynamics, and will prevent any lasting scenes from becoming long or boring

• The song’s creators ‘The Veronicas’ have an attitude about them. This is shown in how they dress, and their performance to the video. The performers in our own video will have to mimic this in order to get the bitchy feel of the song across. This will be put across by the clothes they where and the situation they are shown in. Ripped, dark, tight clothing is worn by the Veronicas in the video, so this is definitely something that will establish the mood. During the shots that present the vocalists actually ‘singing’ they will be shown performing in a cluttered, messy area. This could be a variety of areas including a garage or a skip.

• The overall feel of the video will be softened rock. It’s the appearance that matters, not the lyrics themselves. It may be difficult to keep the attitude of the video dark as lighting may be presented as an issue, none-the-less the colour scheme should contrast to that of a typical girl/ boyfriend song. It’s getting your own back, not trying to woo a boy.

Style of Sound

• The style of sound is rock/pop and as a result, the clothing, locations and mise-en-scene shall mimic this. Teens who listen to this song are also likely to be listening to music such as:

• Katy Perry

• Lady GaGa

• The faders

Mise en Scene• The mise-en-scene will hopefully be the main focus of our music video. As the subject

is that of revenge, it is essential that to go with the music, there are a lot of visual revenge references throughout. Whilst some may be digital, such as the deleting of photos etc, other will be more powerful: Ripping up clothes and bedding etc. Also, throwing feathered pillows from an open window will also give an impressive visual flare, whilst contributing to the mess. A particularly effective aspect replicate would be a slashed mattress. It may be difficult to find a bed to ruin, in this case we will have to recreate something similar from perhaps a wooden frame and a bed spread.

• To make the most of the song, we will need to explore revenge through a wide range of set-ups in a variety of locations, both indoors and out. In the official video, the main story is that of wrecking the boyfriends car. We can’t obviously do this with a clean conscious, so we will recreate it on a smaller scale using a discarded bike or something of similar use. This should be established as the boyfriend’s pride and joy, it will mark the moment in a more effective manner.

• One of the main location’s will be in the boyfriend’s bedroom. We need to make it so that it is clear what has been changed and ruined about the room, so we will need to take the idea further than simply making a mess. It’s essential that broken, smashed, and ripped items are clearly in shot to make a definite impact. We just need to make sure that the lighting is good in this situation or else the film may appear grainy.

Conclusion

The Unique Selling Point of our Music Video is the fact that it displays the pain of going through a gruesome break up but levels in the end when you are shown two wronged women very much getting their own back. We are able to demonstrate our skills through this video as there are many different situations that we want to capture on film, from pain to happiness and we also want to give the audience a sense of entertainment and make them want to watch as some may be able to identify with the situation portrayed.
