Q4 - Who would be the
audience for your media
product?
AUDIENCE
When creating my magazine I had to keep my target audience in mind. Firstly, I made a questionnaire on SurveyMonkey and asked a variety of people to complete it for me, including posting the link over social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. I chose certain questions that would allow me to find out more about what my audience would like, including their age so that I knew which kind of language to use, as if I use more sophisticated language some of my target audience might not understand it as well. My questionnaire was made up of 10 questions so that it wasn't too long, and it focused on things like brands of clothes so that if my magazine sponsored a particular brand, I would know which brand to include.
After I completed my survey, I created a reader profile where all my information was put together. I had a slight idea of who would be buying my magazine, however my target audience could vary, therefore I needed to find out more information and factual evidence of what my audience would like. I thought that when making my magazine, if I did not keep my target audiences thoughts in mind then it wouldn't turn out to be very successful as if it didn't appeal to them, my magazine would not sell well on the market. Below is my reader profile that I created, which includes all the facts about my target audience in more detail.

I found that creating my reader profile helped me understand more about my target
audience as I was able to find out things like if they enjoyed going to festivals. This
helped me when creating my magazine as I knew that if I included things about
festivals then my audience would be interested. Along with that, it informs me of what
my audience like to spend their money on, therefore I know what advertisements to
include, such as upcoming festival tickets and band merchandise.
Some of the things my reader profile covers is:
Gender
Age
Music artists
Festivals
Favourite genre
When creating my magazine, I constantly referred back to my reader profile and
survey responses because I found that by doing that I was able to create a magazine
that would suit my audience, and not just suit what I like.
