Raised in a family of European origin, Jarrett’s musical education was hindered by financial and family issues until he was introduced at age thirteen to Austrian pianist Vincenz Ruzicka. In 1985 Chris Jarrett moved to Germany where he recorded his first album, began composing ballet, film and symphonic music and teaching at the Oldenburg University. The influence of Johannes Ockeghem, Sergei Prokofiev, Charles Mingus and Frank Zappa can be heard in Jarrett’s compositions. Luca Ciarla is noteworthy for both his creativity and virtuosic talent in his compositions and improvisations, with Il Fatto Quotidiano (Italy) stating “around the strings of his violin his gypsy touch blends with jazz, classical and folk sonorities … easily transcends the boundaries among genres to trace an innovative musical path.”
