Invisible Borders explores migration, citizenship, identity, and the refugee experience through performing and visual arts. The project has been developed through Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) program. Working with emerging and established artists and experienced community development practitioners, the CACD program produces a range of arts based projects, across many art forms that reflect and grow our cultural identity. In October, the CACD program presents the theatrical dance piece Rohallah and a mixed media exhibition I'm From Here, I'm From There. Rohallah, a collaboration between Little Dove Director Chenoeh Miller and Fresh Funk Artistic Director Leena Wall, centre’s on the story of a young boy growing up in Afghanistan. The narrative follows Rohallah’s life-journey, which eventually finds him in Australia. Tapping into love, family and mortality, it gives a voice to individual human experiences by uses real-life stories collected from refugees living locally. To create the work, Chenoeh and Leena will run a week-long dance intensive from the 4 th to 7 th October. The result will be a bold experiential dance performance illuminating a journey of hope and inner peace and swirling in and out of the past, present and future. The performance of Rohallah will be held at 7.30pm on Friday 7 th October. Tickets are free but must be booked online at ADD LINK British/Pakistani writer and community development worker Irfan Master has been working with five individuals from our local community to produce I'm From Here, I'm From There. The exhibition explores what it means to be Australian, yet also, from somewhere else. It features a specially commissioned series of photographs by Canberra based photographer, Hardy Lohse with an accompanying story and an object of cultural significance. Portraits, stories and objects – including a hand made wedding rug from Afghanistan signifying unity and joy, and a book of Urdu poetry rich in the traditions of Pakistan, reveal the complex and unique relationship the object represents to the individual’s cultural heritage and identity. Discover how the things we treasure reflect our background and create a bridge between place and time in I'm From Here, I'm From There in the Foyer Gallery at Tuggeranong Arts Centre. Exhibition opens at 6.30pm on Friday 7th October and concludes on Saturday 29th October at 4pm. These projects are supported by the ACT Government.
