Beyoncé Giselle Knowles, often known simply as Beyoncé was born September 4th, 1981 is an American R&B recording artist, actress and fashion designer.  Beyoncé was born in Houston, Texas, where she was first enrolled into various different performing arts schools where she was first introduced into the competitive world of dancing and singing.  Beyoncé first became famous in the late 1990s as the lead singer in one of the worlds best selling girl groups of all time – Destiny’s Child.

Girl’s Tyme was an African-American girl group formed in Houston, Texas in 1990 that eventually became the top selling group Destiny’s Child.

In 1990, auditions took place in Houston, Texas for a girl group. After many auditions took place, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Latavia Roberson, Nikki Taylor and Nina Taylor were all chosen for the group.

The group began to choreograph dance routines to work with their songs and began appearing in many different venues and events.

In 1995 Beyonces father resigned from his full time job as a medical-equipment salesman to dedicate his time on a boot camp for the new up-coming girl band.

In 1993 the girl band changed its name to ‘Destiny’s Child’ which is based on a passage in the Book of Isaiah. They performed at many events before being signed by ‘Columbia Records’.

The album established the group as a viable act in the music industry, amassing moderate sales and winning the group three Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards for "Best R&B/Soul Single" for "No, No, No", "Best R&B/Soul Album of the Year" and "Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist“.

This is when the group went down to four leaving Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Luckett and Roberson still remaining.

1999 - Bills Bills Bills

The group released their multi-platinum second album ‘The Writings on the Wall’ in 1999. The album consists of the well known ‘Bills, Bills, Bills’ the groups first number one single ‘Jumpin Jumpin’ and ‘Say My Name’ which Is still one of their signature songs and was their most successful song at the time.

1999 – Say My Name

 "Say My Name" won the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and the Best R&B Song at the 43rd Grammy Awards. The Writing's on the Wall sold more than eight million copies. During this time, Knowles recorded a duet with Marc Nelson on the song "After All Is Said and Done" for the soundtrack to the 1999 film, The Best Man.

Both Luckett and Roberson filed a lawsuit due to ‘breach of contract’, when Michelle Williams and Farah Franklin appeared in the “Say My Name” video. Luckett and Roberson eventually left the group, Franklin faded from the group within the next 5 months.

During this time Knowles was suffering with severe depression from the split of the group, being publically attacked by the media and having her longstanding boyfriend leave her. She found it difficult to talk about t her depression at this time because the group had just won a Grammy and she thought no one would take her seriously.

Eventually the group had its final line up of the 3 girls , the trio recorded “Independent Woman Part One” which was part of the soundtrack for Charlie s Angels (2000).

It became their best charting single, topping the Billboard Hot 100-lasting for 11 consecutive weeks .

2001-Third Album Released: SurvivorDestiny's Child released their 3rd album named ‘Survivor’ in May 2001. The album

debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 663,000 units sold. To date ‘Survivor’ has sold over 10 million copies.

2003 – Dangerously in Love

During hiatus Of Destinys Child Beyonce released debut solo album “Dangerously in Love” . This then lead to “Crazy in Love” and “Baby Boy” becoming two of the most successful albums of that year. Earning her a then record-tying five Grammy Awards. After the groups disbandment in 2005 Knowles released her second solo album called B’Day in 2006.
