A workshop on relationship
strategies and meditation was
held. Tale of the Maligned Wolf
was read and groups created
their own stories.” Things are
often not what they seem in
conflict. We tend to confuse
“our side of the story” with “the
truth” or “what really happe-
ned.” This classic story, The
Maligned Wolf is one of the favo-
urite illustrations of this idea.”

WORKSHOP
These classes are the basis for getting additional information on
the problem and accumulation of knowledge and skills.
The project participants already discussed real cases and offer
various options to resolve them under the guidance of the school
counselor. There is a case of cyber bullying permanently resolved due to adequate and timely inter-
vention of a mediator in the conflict.

Project activities in Italy Mediation skills of high school
teachers in Padua, Italy
"Associazione Genitorialità",
involved in the Mediation for
Communication project, is
currently working on under-
standing the need for mediati-
on skills of the teachers in
our area and how those teac-
hers perceive conflicts in their
daily work. We are now
working on the use of
questionnaires to determine
needs and organize meetings
to raise awareness about the
topic of conflict management
and mediation. Our long-time
project is to build a network
between schools in our local
area, so they can confront
and share good practices to
gain a better environment in
their workplace.
We are also working on our-
selves and on the way we
manage our own conflicts,
studying these topics, meeting
to discuss about them and
improving our own skills. For
example, we attended to a
daily workshop about
"Maieutic management of
conflicts" organized by the
Psycho-Pedagogical Centre
for education and conflict
management (http://
www.cppp.it/
cpp_presentation.html) on
April 5th. In this workshop
we learned to question our-
selves about how we perceive
and manage our conflicts.

Project activities in Spain To disseminate the Mediation
for Communication Project
Lawton School used various
approaches.
On the one hand we focused
on the power of social media
using Facebook pages, links on
our company webpage and
the school blog to transfer
news on the Project to stake-
holders and the general public
alike.
On the other hand our staff
were kept up to date on the
Project in staff meetings. We
encouraged our teachers to
use the theme of the Project
as a topic for discussion in
class and even as a topic for
Trinity College exams. Infor-
mation leaflets on the Project
were on display in the entran-
ces of our 4 school branches.
At local level, meetings with
decision makers, such as the
Director of the Local Agency
for Economic development
and Employment as well as
Don Enrique Rodríguez, the
Director of the Department
for European Projects in the
Gijón Town Hall, were used
to inform about the Project.
A mailing list of approximately
100 entities including public
development agencies as
information centres was crea-
ted to publicise the Project.
At European level Lawton
School is an active member of
a network of transnational
partners who were duly infor-
med about the Mediation for
Communication Project´s
proposed results and pro-
ducts.

Conclusions: Parents’ education concen-
trates on actions directed to the practice
of the educative function and to the deve-
lopment of certain efficient practices for
communication and interaction in family.
These actions will help parents
know and accept their own child; to
approach in a positive way the
personality traits of their child; to
understand their child’s behaviour;
they will lead to positive influences
in the development of social compe-
tences for children; they will help
them know the stages in their
child’s development in time; they
will lead to their child’s process of
education; to the creation of a
balance between the family factors
for their child’s education- the equal
role of the both parents; to non-
violent ways of solving the conflict
in a family. Parents’ education pro-
duces a change in parents’ mentality
in what concerns their child.
