The Sunday Times February 19, 2006Heidi Rogers, 47 and her daughter Victoria Lamberth 29, travelled to India for Rogers to have an operation on a slipped disc and Lambeth to have dental treatment. Rogers said:“I had back problems with back pain and it turned out to be slipped disc. There was a long waiting list for on the NHS and I couldn’t afford to go private on my nurse’s salary.”

“I’m free of pain for the first time in ages,” said Rogers and my daughters mouth now looks beautiful.

Total cost: £4, 400 incurred in operation in INDIA£2,800 (Surgery) + £1,600 (Flights + Post-op accommodation)

In UK cost of operation was quoted at £15,000At the same time Victoria has extensive dental treatment for which she was quoted £6,000 in Britain. In India she had it all done for £800.

When Russ Aiton was told he had the choice of an agonizingly long wait for a heart bypass on the NHS, or a bill of between £17,000 and £24,000 to have it done privately, he turned to the internet in frustration. Within minutes Mr Aiton and his wife Joy had found a company that would get him the surgery within weeks for a fraction of the cost, 5,000miles away in India.

The Indian Hospital, which Mr Aiton found with Google, quoted him £7,800 for a package of treatment, including all the medical costs of the operation and aftercare at the Wockhardt Hospital in Bangalore, return flights for both him and his wife, 14 nights' hospital accommodation and 13 nights' recuperation at a country club.
