CIGNA INDIVIDUAL HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS GO MULTILINGUAL

Cigna, a leading international health insurer, is excited to announce the launch of local language sales

and service capabilities for their expatriate individual health insurance product range.

This move is a milestone in the company’s commitment towards expanding its reach globally, particularly towards European and Latin American brokers supporting expatriates moving abroad.

This coincides with the combining of forces between Cigna Global Health Options and Cigna expatplus, bringing the strength of a single individual proposition for expatriate healthcare to the broker market.

Phil Austin, Head of Global Individual Private Medical Insurance said, “Launching the Cigna Global Health Options plans in German, French, Dutch and Spanish was the natural next step in demonstrating our commitment to brokers and intermediaries, particularly in the European and Latin American markets.”

Chief Operating Officer for Cigna Global Health Options, Jim Bruce, provided some background as to Cigna’s decision to harmonise the individual expatriate healthcare proposition, “By combining the strengths of the existing Cigna Global Health Options and Cigna expatplus plans, we have brought a single proposition to the market. Brokers now have one truly global multilingual sales and service proposition bringing clarity and transparency to the market, and demonstrating Cigna’s dedication to meeting our customers’ and brokers’ requirements.”

A multilingual support team is now available to assist brokers, maintaining Cigna’s commitment to quality service. The team, accessible by phone and email, handle international medical insurance quote requests, setting up policies on behalf of brokers, and ongoing account servicing.

Worldwide brokers interested in working with Cigna as a registered health insurance intermediary, are invited to contact iPMI Magazine for further detailed information. l

ALLIANZ WORLDWIDE CARE LAUNCHES HEALTHCARE PLAN FOR SEAFARERS

Allianz Worldwide Care has announced the launch of a new plan which offers a compliant

solution for onshore healthcare to shipping companies affected by the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006), commonly known as the “Seafarers’ Bill of Rights.” While created by the International Labour Organisation in 2001, to be enforced, the MLC had to be ratified by at least 30 member states.

This was achieved on August 20th 2012, with the Convention officially coming into force exactly one year later.

Currently, 56 countries have ratified the convention, which does not apply to fishing vessels, war ships or traditional build ships.

Susan Landers, Head of Marketing and Client Management at Allianz Worldwide Care said,

“The convention addresses a number of basic employment rights, amongst them fair employment terms and the right to health protection and medical care. Essentially, the goal is to

ensure that seafarers are provided with a minimum standard of working conditions.”

“Allianz Worldwide Care took a pro-active approach to create a healthcare plan which addresses all of the MLC 2006 mandatory in-patient and out-patient medical requirements, as well offering as a number of optional in-patient, out-patient, dental and repatriation benefits. This allows employers to provide a higher level of healthcare cover and a more attractive employee benefit in this competitive industry where there is a scarcity of qualified and experienced maritime staff.”

Landers added, “The MLC is already in force in many countries including Cyprus, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden, where shipping companies are obligated to provide a minimum level of health protection and medical care to employees. Maritime companies in other countries such as the UK, France, Germany and Belgium can make provisions now as their markets prepare for the implementation of the Convention in 2014.” l

17

8 MLC 2006 requires shipping companies to provide comprehensive rights and protection to the world’s 1.2 million seafarers. Currently, 56 countries have ratified the convention.

COMPLETE CRITICAL ILLNESS PROTECTION WITH VALUE-ADDED HEALTH SERVICES

8 MANULIFE-Sinochem Life Insurance Co. has recently launched a new critical illness product, the Chang Bao An Kang Long-term Health Insurance.

This product not only offers increasing benefits for up to three instances of critical illness but also provides

access to professional health consultation services.

This product is Manulife-Sinochem’s first product priced with an assumed interest rate higher than 2.5% following regulatory changes for interest rate liberalization.

In recent years, incidences of critical illness are becoming increasingly common and are occurring at lower ages. Luckily, there have also been great advances in medical technology and recovery rates have been increasing. It is people who have recovered from critical illness that understand the value of insurance protection. However, due to their past medical history, they also face difficulties in getting approval for additional health coverage.

There is need for products that can provide coverage for multiple incidences. Today’s fast paced life has also brought forth unhealthy yet sometimes unavoidable living conditions such as pollution, stress, and highly processed food that can cause illnesses that are not necessarily life threatening but can still have serious effects on people’s well-being.

There is also a need for insurance plans that can provide services not only for critical diseases but for non-critical illnesses as well.

Manulife-Sinochem’s Chang Bao An Kang provides coverage for 40 critical illnesses, divided into four categories, and up to three total claims (each in a different category) with increasing benefits for each claim. Customers may receive up

to 330% of the total sum assured, and moreover, after the first claim is made all future premiums will be waived.

Chang Bao An Kang also provides coverage for 10 additional “non-critical” illnesses such as initial-stage malignant tumours and lesions, mild strokes, and cardiac pacemaker insertions.

If the customer has an incidence of any of these 10 “non-critical” illnesses before the age of 70, MSL will provide an additional benefit of 20% of the sum assured.

The product also provides two free value-added health services: a telephone medical consultation service from a health risk management

professional will help guide the insured and their families through different types of health difficulties and provide advice on disease prevention and improving their health and well-being.

Another value-added service

provided is the “second diagnosis opinion”. When a customer believes there may be a need to review their initial critical illness diagnosis or treatment, the product provides access to a professional national medical service to confirm the earlier diagnosis and treatment.

Lastly, in order to provide even more complete protection and benefits, Chang Bao An Kang has an end of life benefit for customers that did not claim for critical illness at the time of passing.

With more than seventeen years of experience in China, Manulife-Sinochem is committed to providing reliable and trustworthy critical illness products. products. l

HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN HELPS BRIDGE HEALTHCARE AFFORDABILITY GAP

The new ‘inSpire’ Private Medical Insurance Plan will be launched on 14 January 2014 providing

private healthcare benefits at all Spire Healthcare hospitals throughout the UK. Marketing Manager Isaac Lam said the Bristol-based company wanted to create a simple plan that was easy on the pocket, without sacrificing on important medical benefits.

“Over the last few years, PMI premium inflation has out-stripped wage inflation. This has meant more and more people are being priced out of the market. We have spent the last year working closely with Spire Healthcare to create a more affordable plan but one that still provides comprehensive benefits.”

Lam said the partnership with Spire Healthcare was unique within the healthcare industry and has allowed APRIL UK to offer competitive premiums without the use of built-in no-claims discounts, mandatory excesses or financial limitations on benefits. “We are delighted

to work in partnership with Spire Healthcare. They have a reputation for providing some of the best patient care and facilities in the UK. We know our customers will be in safe hands with Spire.”

Isaac Lam continues, “This is very much a long-term growth product for us. We have achieved genuine low premiums without the use of gimmicks or sacrificing benefits and we hope it will appeal to younger people or those who have dropped out of the market due to rising PMI prices.”

The ‘inSpire’ Medical Insurance Plan has been created with simplicity in mind and steers people to one of the 38 Spire Hospitals across the UK.

One level of cover is available “Comprehensive” which provides full in, day and out patient cover.

There is no mandatory excess, but customers can choose a £100 excess if they want to reduce premiums further. Read the complete story about this Health Insurance Plan at www.ipmimagazine.com and head for the Plan Hub. l

AVIVA SIGNIFICANTLY ENHANCES ITS INTERNATIONAL PRIVATE MEDICAL INSURANCE

8 Enhancements follow a detailed clinical review of the insurer’s international medical cover to ensure customers living or working abroad receive high quality healthcare.

Aviva has announced significant improvements to its International Solutions private medical insurance

from 1st February 2014. The improvements will provide new and existing customers with enhanced standard benefits and wider geographic cover, greater flexibility, and a new tailored Gulf Solutions policy for customers based in the Gulf region.

The enhancements follow a detailed clinical review of the insurer’s international medical cover to ensure customers living or working abroad receive high quality healthcare that reflects advances in medicine and medical practice.

International Solutions has now been divided into two areas rather than six, to make mobility between countries easier for customers and provide them with wider cover around the world. Policies are now available as Worldwide, or Worldwide (excluding USA and Caribbean) cover, with pricing based on comparative risk and medical costs, rather than geographical location. For all customers, irrespective of where they are based, emergencies are covered for up to 60 days in any country in the world.

Aviva has also expanded its provision in the Gulf, creating a new tailored Gulf Solutions policy for group customers, to provide cover for their employees based

in Kuwait, Oman or Qatar, as well as to those based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Individual customers can also benefit from the new Gulf Solutions policy, if they are living or working in Oman or the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The new Gulf cover marks the second phase of Aviva’s product development for the region, building on the success of the award-winning Emirates International Solutions and the health insurer’s expertise in managing healthcare within the region’s complex legislative framework. A partnership with NAS Administration Services provides Gulf customers with a market-leading regional claims service with direct settlement capabilities.

For all customers, standard core benefits have been increased to make International Solutions one of the most comprehensive international policies available in the market, with an annual benefit level of £5m.

Customers have the peace of mind that wherever they are, they will receive high quality treatment if they are ill or injured, as well as 24-hour medical emergency assistance and evacuation to an appropriate facility if treatment isn’t available locally.

Policies now carry an International Cancer Pledge to cover treatment and palliative care as recommended by specialists. In addition, cover is provided for aftercare, including

money towards prostheses and wigs.

In and Day-patient Care is enhanced and now includes cover towards the costs of organ transplants and harvesting, and an increase in rehabilitation cover from 14 days to 25 days.

Out-patient Care also now includes cover for up to ten speech therapy sessions, following a referral by a specialist after a hospital admission.

Additional Benefits includes cover for complications of pregnancy as standard, with Maternity and Maternity Plus policy upgrades available to provide customers with cover for the more routine costs of pregnancy and childbirth, including pre and post-natal care. Home nursing benefits have also been increased as standard from 28 days to 60 days.

Customers will also have greater coverage on a range of Everyday Healthcare benefits that they would usually expect from their GP at home. These include up to 20 consultations with a doctor per year and higher limits for prescription medicine and vaccinations. Everyday Healthcare now includes cover towards Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Condition Management for acute phases of congenital conditions is also now covered as standard, alongside increased cover for the management of HIV and AIDS. l

WILLIS LAUNCHES FLIER, A NEW POLICY DESIGNED TO COVER REPATRIATION COSTS SEAFARERS UNDER MARITIME LABOUR CONVENTION

Willis has launched a new liability insurance policy to cover the costs associated with repatriating stranded seafarers. The Maritime Labour Convention, 2006

(MLC) which came into force on August 20, states that flag states[i] are responsible for repatriating seafarers back to their home country when a ship is abandoned.

According to the ILO database there are currently 184 reported incidents of abandoned vessels and seafarers around the world[ii]. As a result of the economic downturn’s impact on global shipping a record number of vessels and crews were abandoned in 2009 and 2010, according to The Mission to Seafarers, the world’s largest charitable port-based welfare service. Offered in association with Lodestar Marine Limited and The Mission to Seafarers the new policy called FLIER[iii] provides:

l Coverage for legal liabilities relating to repatriation and medical costs following an abandonment (due to insolvency), which flag states inherit as a result of the MLCl Abandoned seafarers with access to expert advice and servicesl Including medical aid, logistical assistance, wages, provisions and suppliesl In partnership with The Mission to Seafarers and Lodestar.l A contribution from every policy sold by Willis will go toward funding The Mission to Seafarers’ humanitarian efforts.

David Purdy, Executive Director in Willis’ Financial and Executive Risks Practice and one of the architects of the policy wording, said, “The typical costs of repatriating abandoned seafarers could be in the region of hundreds of thousands of dollars. If any members of the crew have severe injuries then the costs could be considerably more. With market capacity of around $5-10 million, provided by Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe Limited, FLIER offers flag states a cost-effective means of transferring these liabilities and helps ensure that seafarers receive the right humanitarian, financial and logistical support in the unfortunate event of being abandoned overseas.”

Reverend Andrew Wright, Secretary Gen at the Mission, said “The Mission to Seafarers has been working with Willis to advise on crew welfare in the event of abandonment and we welcome FLIER, which will insure flag states for their new responsibilities under the MLC. Partnerships with industry help the Mission to continue to provide care and support across the 71 countries where we are currently based; we are grateful to Willis for the company’s support.”

Source[i] Commercial shipping vessels are required to register with flag states, which have the responsibility and authority to enforce regulations such as the MLC [ii] The SECTOR database contains a regularly updated list of vessels that have been reported to the ILO as abandoned in various ports of the world http://www.ilo.org/dyn/seafarers/ [iii] Flag Liability Insurance Against Exposure for Repatriation (FLIER).

8 MLC provides protection at work for the world’s more than 1.3 million seafarers and is supported by the ILO as well as governments and the international community. According to the ILO database there are currently 184 reported incidents of abandoned vessels and seafarers around the world.

International Medical Group®, Inc. has announced it enhanced its flagship marine group medical insurance program, International Marine Medical InsuranceSM (IMMI). According to IMG, the enhancements enable

ship owners to provide their crew comprehensive coverage for eligible medical expenses, which is increasingly important with the enactment of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC, 2006).

The MLC, 2006, which took effect August 20, 2013 and became binding in international law, establishes minimum working and living standards for all seafarers on those ships. As such the MLC, 2006, requires ship owners to provide health protection

and medical care to seafarers on board their ship. “We have provided specialized international

medical insurance programs to marine professionals for more than 20 years,” said VP of IMG’s marine division, Al Wallace.

Additionally, when seeking treatment outside the U.S., IMG works with insured crew members to assist them in locating requesting and coordinating information for care in order to obtain the most efficient and cost-effective care available.

IMG also provides international utilization management, comprehensive case management, transplant network provider access, out-of-network claim negotiation and medical claim review. l

CATASTROPHIC FLOOD INSURANCE FOR RIVER BASIN PEOPLE INBANGLADESH

Poor and vulnerable people in the river basin areas of Sirajganj district come under an index based flood insurance product, to address the disaster risk reduction in the

flood prone regions. The product was launched yesterday (20 August

2013) at BRAC Centre in a program titled Launching Ceremony on Index Based Flood Insurance Product Piloting in Sirajgonj, Bangladesh, organized by Oxfam. Initially the flood index insurance product will cover 1661 poor families of 10 villages located in Char areas of Sirajganj district on a pilot basis.

The product aims to provide cash relief of up to BDT 8000 per household in event of catastrophic flood.

Addressing the launching ceremony as the chief guest, Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP, Minister of Disaster Management and Relief said, ”With this very innovative initiative, poor and vulnerable people of Sirajganj district, who are the regular victims of flood will feel more secured. Such kind of initiative helps the government to address the disaster risk reduction.” He urged all to scale up this effort to cover whole Bangladesh. Snehal Soneji, Country Director for Oxfam in Bangladesh, in his welcome remarks said.

“Bangladesh is a flood prone country, which is one of primary reasons for wide spread poverty, despite the remarkable economic progresses

government has made. Index based flood insurance is aimed to design a commercially viable catastrophic flood insurance scheme for the poor and vulnerable. We are now piloting it in Sirajganj, with a hope to spread it across the country with the support from government, national and international organizations.”

Initiated by Oxfam, the project is funded by SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Corporation) and jointly implemented by CIRM Advisory Services (India), Institute of Water Modeling (Bangladesh), Pragati Insurance Ltd. (Bangladesh), Swiss Re, Manab Mukti Sangstha (Bangladesh) and Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (Bangladesh).

“Floodwater that used to create fertile ground for agriculture crops has resulted in catastrophic consequences in Bangladesh now. Through this flood index insurance scheme, Swiss Re supports the insurance sector with product structuring, pricing and underwriting, as well as reinsuring the risks. The insurance scheme will help to mitigate the fiscal impact of the flooding to the villages, and strengthen the resilience of the economy,” said Harini Kannan, Head of Agriculture Reinsurance South West Asia from Swiss Re, the reinsurance partner for this project. Earlier Sardar M Shah Newaz, Director, IWM presented the flood hazard model and Rupalee Ruchismita, Executive Director, CIRM presented the keynote paper on Index Based Flood Insurance Product. l

MEDICAL INSURANCE PLANS IN GERMAN FRENCH DUTCH AND SPANISH

FRONT COVER Mr. Phil Austin, Head of Global IPMI CIGNA International

iPMI Magazine

Cigna is excited to announce the launch of a brand new suite of international health insurance products. The Cigna Global product suite, which is targeted to expatriates

and globally mobile individuals, has been expanded to create a new three-level international health insurance plan.

Phil Austin, Head of Global iPMI said, “The new plans have been developed in response to customer and broker demand for a wider range of products which span across different market segments. The new plans give us the ability to provide products which suit a greater footprint of customers, and with the added flexibility of teaming a modular approach with deductible and cost share options, it has become really easy for customers to build a plan which is matched to the their unique needs. The plans were developed after a period of customer and market research which identified a gap in the market for an affordable, high quality, high service healthcare plan. Our customers appreciated our existing high-service Global Health Options plan which performed well at the upperend of the market. We identified an acute need for additional quality, affordable plans in the middlemarket: for those individuals who are moving abroad but are paying for their plan themselves and want to contain costs

but maintain high service levels. The new plans are about giving customers much more choice, so they can get all the cover they need without having to pay for cover they don’t need. After all, if you know you won’t need maternity care, why should you pay for a plan which includes it?”

KEY FEATURES OF THE NEW PLANS:

+ Choice of Silver, Gold or Platinum options International Medical Insurance core cover as standard, covering inpatient hospital stays, specialist consultants, cancer care etc, and also maternity care on Platinum and Gold plans

+ Flexibility to build a unique plan with a range of additional optional modules, including Outpatient cover; Medical Evacuation; Health & Wellbeing; and Vision & Dental cover

+ Manage premiums with deductible and cost share options on core and Outpatient Comprehensive cancer care as standard

+ No maximum age restrictions and Guaranteed renewability

NEW COVER FOR THE UNTAPPED SEAFARERS MARKET FROM GLOBALITY HEALTH

Globality Health responded to the need for appropriate insurance for seafarers by partnering with

Crewsure (crewsure.com) to offer clients innovative insurance products. From August 20th 2013 all vessels over a certain size have to comply with a new labour convention known as the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006. New product, Crewsure Marine, supports the health and wellbeing of onboard crew and also fully meets the revised Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) regulations.

Crewsure Marine is a composite ‘no fault’ insurance policy, paid for by the Employer, providing personal insurance for seafarers. “It is our firm belief that the best

partners have joined forces to deliver first class care and the best insurance service to the maritime industry. We give Crewsure clients the strength of one of the world’s leading insurers and reinsurers, so crewmembers can feel safe and secure whatever ocean they cross.”

Robert Johnston, Crewsure Marine said, “Crewsure will work harmoniously with the maritime industry to give seafarers the security and benefits they deserve. Crucially, we engage with unions, shipowners, ship managers, manning agents and the insurance industry and will continue to do so to ensure that Crewsure remains evolutionary.”

UltraCare Power a medical insurance plan especially for the oil and gas

industry in Asia has been launched today.

UltraCare Power will initially be available in Singapore and eventually rolled out across Asia. UltraCare keeps premium levels competitive for workers by focusing on core benefits. Two levels of cover are available, UltraCare Power Select and Power Plus. Both give members and families access to emergency, hospital and out-patient treatment.

UltraCare Power Plus also covers dental treatment, wellness benefits and cover for chronic conditions. Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation is available as an option. Most workers have evacuation cover provided by their employers, so making the benefit optional avoids the risk of members paying for a benefit they do not need.

Alistair Dickman, Country Manager and Chief Executive, InterGlobal Singapore said,

“Singapore is an important centre for the oil and gas industry in Asia, with

thousands of people involved in onshore and offshore production. They need top quality, affordable medical insurance matched exactly to their working lives. Many work offshore or travel extensively to remote locations. There are also a high number of contractors in the industry which means that people need to be able to access quality cover at an affordable premium without joining an employer’s scheme. We launched UltraCare Power to give energy workers a real choice when choosing medical insurance. It gives employers, individual contractors and their families the reassurance that they can receive treatment when they need it for a cost effective premium. The launch of UltraCare Power is great example of our strategy to focus on developing products to meet the exact needs of local markets. When our intermediary partners told us there was a real demand for a competitive oil and gas IPMI plan across Asia, we went all out to develop a plan that fitted the needs of the industry in the region.” l

MH Ross Travel Insurance Services today announced major enhancements to its popular Asset and Asset Plus plans. Among the most significant new features

is a flat rate for children designed especially for cost-conscious traveling families.

The Asset plan’s rate is $14 for all children 17 years or younger traveling with the family.

The Asset Plus plan’s rate is $25. On both plans, coverage is limited to a maximum trip duration of 60 days and a maximum vacation cost of $50,000 per person.

This flat-rate feature also makes MH Ross plans highly attractive when compared with competing plans that do not charge for children but are costlier overall.

Another distinctive new feature is an adventure sports coverage option.

For an additional cost of $25 per person, travelers who enjoy such activities as skydiving, mountain

climbing, spelunking, parachuting, hang gliding, or bungee jumping can receive medical and medical evacuation coverage if participation in one of these activities while traveling results in an accident or injury. In addition, the Asset and Asset Plus plans offer several other new and enhanced features.

The new features include the ability to recover lost vacation costs due to cancellation because of a pregnancy that occurs after the insurance was purchased, a hurricane warning, a school year extension that conflicts with a planned vacation, or an employer canceling an employee’s vacation.

Among the key plan enhancements are higher medical coverage limits (raised from $25,000 to $50,000) and higher emergency medical evacuation limits (raised from $50,000 to $500,000).

“We’re delighted to announce so many new features and enhancements to our Asset and Asset Plus plans all at once,” said Sheri Machat, Senior Vice President, MH Ross. l

Hiscox has launched the first combined anti-bribery response, defence

and expense insurance product for UK businesses. Bribery Act Response Insurance helps businesses with the costs and practical steps required to successfully investigate and defend an actual, or suspected, Section 7 Bribery Act offence.

The 2010 UK Bribery Act created a new corporate offence for businesses of ‘failure to prevent’ an act of bribery. Under the Act, the Serious Fraud Office is increasing the number of businesses it investigates as it moves towards a zero tolerance policy.

Marcus Breese, Casualty Underwriter at Hiscox, said,

“Bribery is a growing and ever present danger for UK businesses, particularly those with a multi-national presence and those that use a lot of third party vendors. The UK Bribery Act made it very clear that a failure to prevent a bribe can lead to prosecution of the corporate entity and the Serious Fraud Office is increasingly adopting a zero tolerance approach. British businesses have a real exposure to

bribery risk which is not currently met by any existing insurance/response product and this is why we have teamed up with Control Risks and a number of leading law firms to offer a market first.”

John Conyngham, Group General Counsel, Control Risks, “UK companies in every industry increasingly need to venture overseas to ensure growth. As they do so, they face the potential for greater risk in unfamiliar environments in addition to the need to employ local partners to conduct business on their behalf. It is this combination of factors that makes them especially vulnerable to the threat of bribery. At the same time, the UK authorities are intent on cracking down on incidences of bribery under the UK Bribery Act. It is therefore vital that businesses are prepared to respond effectively to bribery allegations as soon as they arise. Key to these preparations is the need to have in place a plan for managing the incident on a global basis, including pre-agreed protocols for engaging specialist investigations firms and advisors. ” l
