Objectives
1. Demonstrate the anesthetic practices implemented while utilizing limited resources on a medical mission.
2. Illustrate the application and preparation processes for going on a medical mission.
Diocese of Joliet
● Vision statement: In response to the Gospel Call of Jesus Christ, the Joliet Diocese Partnership In Mission seeks to form servants for the work of missions and justice as we reach out in service, relief, and friendship to our brothers and sisters around the globe.
● Values:
○ Service: To share skills and knowledge in aid of the poorest of the poor.
○ Spirituality: To deepen one’s own spiritual life by sharing in service, prayer and reflection.
○ Solidarity: To learn from the poor and alienated in a way that reflects mutuality and solidarity
○ Justice: To understand the causes of injustice and to find ways of communicating these insights.

History of the Diocese of Joliet
● The Diocese of Joliet Missions have traveled annually to the Philippines since 2005.
● Each year the medical team has provided over 150 surgeries and has treated over 1,000 patients.
Purpose of the Mission Trip
● The past mission trips have successfully helped many adult and pediatric patients.
○ In this area of the Philippines, if a patient needs surgery or needs to be medically treated, they are given a list of medical supplies they need to purchase prior to entering the hospital.
○ During this trip, patients received the surgery and treatments needed to maintain their health at no cost.

● All medical supplies are received via donations from all over the world.
● Each person was assigned a duffel bag containing necessary equipment to treat patients

● The surgical team provided anesthesia care for over 100 surgical patients this year.
● In addition, many more adult and pediatric patients were seen in the medical clinic seeking treatment for:
○ Pneumonia
○ Hypertension
○ Other various conditions

● All members of the mission trip developed a friendship with the Oikos Sisters.
● The Oikos Sisters are a group of women who help the men, women, and children of Borongan who are experiencing a difficult crisis in their life.
● They have provided food, shelter, and support for the Borongan people in dire need.
