COURSE PRESENTATIONWorldwide, there are very few courses on lower limb reconstruction using local, regional and free flaps. This is quite unfortunate, since the lower limbs is often affected by numerous pathologies (trauma, tumors, infections, malformations, auto-immune diseases, etc.) that cause lower limb defects, which require flap reconstruction in order to allow limb salvage, and occasionally life preservation. The aim of this course is to provide a “hands on” cadaveric dissection experience on a wide range of flaps used to reconstruct defects in the various regions of the lower limb. Multiple flaps will be shown to illustrate the reconstruction of bone, tendon, muscle, nerve, vascular and integumentary defects. Both traditional and recently-described flaps will be addressed, providing participants a sound knowledge of current indications and adding multiple options, of various complexity and robustness, to their surgical armamentarium.

The course will be taught in English by a wide range of consultants with a vast experience in lower limb reconstruction. Well in advance of the course start, a comprehensive manual with a description of each flap will be provided to participants.

Learn the current recommendations guiding flap choice for each type of defect of the lower limb.

Understand the anatomy and surgical dissection technique of the most commonly used flaps of the pelvic and lumbar region.

Understand the anatomy and surgical dissection technique of the most commonly used flaps of the thigh.

Understand the anatomy and surgical dissection technique of the most commonly used flaps of the lower leg.

Understand the anatomy and surgical dissection technique of the most commonly used flaps of the foot.

Know the most commonly used access sites to perform vascular anastomoses in free flap insetting in the lower leg.
