> Overview

This course is designed for the US Department of State (DOS) to provide an annual educational forum for their health care providers (physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners). These health care providers face a wide array of clinical issues, from the simple and routine health care visit to the complex and challenging care of acute and chronic symptoms and disease states. The content is collaboratively developed between the course provider and the continuing education team at the DOS and is based on real experiences and updates in medical knowledge. As the only course these providers may attend during the year, the interaction between the faculty and the attendees is critical to the course’s success and encompasses theatre style presentations to informal small group discussions and remote video conferencing demonstrating complex care situations.

> Learning Objectives1. Demonstrate improved diagnostic and treatment skills for children with developmental disorders, including autism2. Classify and treat patients at risk for VTE during travel3. Recognize the elements in preventative cardiology that could improve the well being of patients4. Distinguish between various imaging modalities for different health care diagnoses5. Determine the infectious disease challenges facing their patients6. Perform musculoskeletal examinations and construct a differential diagnosis list7. Recognize pharmacologic challenges in multi-drug regimens8. Discuss the implementation and use of electronic medical record systems9. Compare and contrast various strategies for the treatment of hypertension10. Explain the treatment of asthma in adults and children11. Interpret the manifestations of neurological symptoms12. Evaluate patients with acute and chronic manifestations of immunologic disorders

13. Review MED updates for program policies and procedures and their implications.

This activity is designed for family physicians, internists, psychiatrists, emergency physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
