MEDINAT AL-ZAHARA
After the Caliphate statement, Abderramán III ordered to built a big city, which were the Omeya court seat. Córdoba turned into a capital with two seats: the “madina” and Medina Azahara, where bureaucracy and empire lived.The buildings started in 936, post by Maslama ben Abdllah.
TERRACESThe Caliphate
promoted an urban planning which as a
result gave the “ Arrabales de
Poniente”. It layed our from Yebel al-
Arus util Guadalquivir valley.
The sloped was used for set up the city in three
terraces: the highest was from the real family, the second was an official
zone, with the administration buildings and the reception hall; at the last terrace there was
a big gardens, in front Abderramán hall.
Around this mountain there
were located the village, next to
the western wall.
The city was perfectly drew
up: at the entrance there was a big angle which lead into
the police department.
A wall surrounded the
city, and another isolates the real
area.
INTERESTING MONUMENTS AT THE CITY
•Abderraman II hall or Reach hall: it was utilized for the reception of important embassies. It is decorated with reliefs on marble and wood. Its columns were of pink and blue marble.

Aljama mosque: it is point to the Mecca, with a porch and a big hall divided in
five naves.

Casa de Ya´far: with a joint in the angle, it was the heir prince
palace. It has a bathroom and an
official hall, a courtyard made with marble, and
it has a fountain.
