    MEDITATION WHAT IT IS!!!

    y In simple terms, meditation is a mind-cleansing

    or emptying process. It is focused concentrationand increased awareness of ones being.

    y Meditation means 'a cessation of the thoughtprocess' . It describes a state of consciousness,

    when the mind is free of scattered thoughts andvarious patterns . The observer (one who is doingmeditation) realizes that all the activity of themind is reduced to one.

    y HEART RATE: It usually slower down at the time ofmeditation. Studies shows an average decline of 7

    beats or more per minutes.y BLOOD FLOW:Studies shows that meditators

    showed a significantly greater increase in digital bloodvolume during meditation than rest.

    STUDIES ON HEART RATEy Bagga and Gandhi (1983) found an average decline as

    high as fifteen beats per minute among some of theirsubjects.

    y Fischer (1971) has found that SAMADHI sometimestriggers ecstatic which shows wide variability.

    y Bono (1984) found that the reduction of heart rateduring TM was greater than the reduction resulting

    from sitting quietly with eyes closed.y Mark McCabe( 2008) reported heart rate variability

    during different meditation techniques.

    STUDIES ON BLOOD FLOWy Delmonte (1984) tested fifty-two subjects and found

    that meditators showed a significantly greater increase

    in blood volume during meditation than rest.y Jevning and Wilson (1978) reported that

    transcendental meditation increased cardiac outputamong twenty-seven subjects by an average of 16%.

    y Wallace and

    Benson (1972) found an increase inforearm blood flow of 32% for their transcendental

    meditation subjects.

    STUDIES ON BLOOD PRESSURE

    y Hafner (1982) Twenty-one hypertension patients whohad been randomly assigned to eight one-hour sessions ofeither meditation training, meditation plus biofeedback-aided relaxation, or a nontreatment control group werestudied. Statistically significant falls in systolic anddiastolic blood pressure occurred after both trainingprograms.

    y Dr. David Haaga (2009) found decrease in blood pressureof 298 students after three months of practice than thoseare not regular after the camp.
