The City of Burlington has advanced the design of the reconstruction of Townsend Avenue between La-salle Park Road and Eagle Drive including proposed drainage improvements and Low-Impact Develop-ment (LID) stormwater management techniques. The objective of the project is to improve the function and condition of Townsend Avenue, promote onsite stormwater management through infiltration, storage and other LID methods and repair eroded sections of Teal Creek. A public meeting was held on June 13, 2013. At that meeting, residents provided their input on the recon-struction of Townsend Avenue.

An additional public meeting has been scheduled for:

Date: Monday, Oct. 28, 2013Location: Aldershot Arena,

Community RoomDrop-in Open House: 7 to 8:30 p.m.Presentation: 7:15 p.m.

The purpose of this public meeting is to inform the community of the progress of the project, and to dem-onstrate how comments received at the initial public meeting have been incorporated into the design.

We are interested in hearing any comments or input

that you may have about this project. Comments and information regarding the project are being collected to assist the City of Burlington during the detailed design process. This material will be kept on file for use during the project and may be included in design documentation.

Are you properly sorting your waste at city facilities?

Over the past few years, the City of Burlington with the support of Halton Region, has signifi-cantly increased the options for properly sorting your waste at several of our public spaces.

Unfortunately waste audits done at Tansley Woods Community Centre and Appleby Ice Centre showed high contamination rates (the percentage of material that should not be in a particular container).

We need your help. This is what you can do.

Which items go where?• Properly dispose of your waste (all indoor public

facilities have blue boxes and garbage bins, while larger facilities also have GreenCarts).

• Commonly-misplaced items are listed below along with where they should be disposed:

• Hot beverage/coffee cups, sleeves and drink trays – GreenCart

• Coffee and drink lids (no straws) – Blue Box

• Plastic plates, cups and takeout containers – Blue Box

• Food items and paper food packaging – GreenCart

• Paper plates, paper towels and tissues – GreenCart

• Snack and yogurt containers (film and foil removed) – Blue Box

• Styrofoam, plastic cutlery, candy wrappers - Garbage

With your help, we can increase waste diversion in our public facilities. For more information about how to properly dispose of your waste, please visit www.halton.ca/waste. For information about City of Burlington envi-ronmental initiatives, please visit www.burlington.ca/environment.
