Wilpena Pound Resort Background

Wilpena Pound Resort is located in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. The appeal of this lush outback location for both independent travelers and groups is; the unique beauty of the landscape, clear open outback contrasted with lush and abundant wildlife, its rich and living indigenous culture, ancient geological formations, and true outback hospitality.

The vibrant colours of the Flinders Ranges, an 800 million-year-old quartzite and limestone outcrop, are truly spectacular. At its heart is Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheatre 17km long and 8km wide shaped by the weathering and uplifting of land over time.

The local Adnyamathana people call Wilpena Pound, 'Ikara' (ii-ka-ra). Ikara means 'Meeting Place' and is home to many sacred Aboriginal rituals and stories. The most prominent and significant of these stories is the creation story of Yurlu (Kingfisher) and the two Akurra (Serpents) that now form the walls of Ikara. At the edge of this natural wonder lies Wilpena Pound Resort. The resort blends well into the landscape and provides comfortable accommodation and is the perfect setting for any event or conference. Location

Wilpena Pound Resort is located in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia (Approximately 470 kilometers north of Adelaide). It is accessible by sealed roads or by a connected scenic air tour.

Conference Room Located behind the Wilpena Pound Resort main restaurant this open space is your blank canvas, specifically created for group meetings and events.

Wilpena Pound Resort Restaurant The restaurant looks out over a 400 year old River Red Gum tree and a grassed area in front of the main building. Open to all resort guests for lunch and dinner, the space is available for groups and hire throughout the day. When combined with the Conference Room, this space is suitable for larger groups. The Ikara Main Tent is where guests staying at Ikara are served a hot breakfast each morning. The facility is available to utilise through the day as required (10am-4pm).

Sunrise breakfast $35

Perfect for an early sunrise breakfast, this is a truly unique 'outback bush breakfast' experience. Served off site and located at either; the magnificent Cazneaux tree or Old Wilpena Station – both locations are within 5km from the Resort. Note: Minimum 10 people / Maximum 40 people. Option is weather dependent. Transfers included.

Dinner

It is a well-known fact that the networking and conversations around dinner are considered to be the most valuable time to event participants. Wilpena Pound Resort provides a number of options to help facilitate this.

Alternate Drop $60

Simplicity is often the key to a great experience. Make it easy on your guests with a 3 course (Alternative drop) dinner option. You can work with our chef to select the options and then sit back and we will do the rest.

Choice Menu $70

Selected by you in consultation with our chef this option will give your guests the choice of their taste experience. A custom three course menu, of 3-4 options per course will be developed. We can even provide you with a pre-order form for your guests to make the night run even smoother.

Beverage Options Just like true outback hospitality, we will never let a guest go thirsty. Our selection is sourced locally, throughout Australia and internationally to ensure that all tastes are catered for. We can offer beverages on consumption, allowing you to nominate the types of beverages, times and spend limit to suit your budget. Activities Getting out discovering the beautiful Wilpena Pound and Flinders Ranges National Park is an absolute must for any group travelling to the region. Below is just a selection of the options available to choose from.

Local Indigenous Culture Tour $55

Discover the rich living culture of the Adnyamathanha people. Estimated at over 5000 years old, Akaroo Rock is a culturally significant site in a stunning Australian landscape. An indigenous (Adnyamathanha) local guide will share the significance of the site and interpret the ochre, charcoal and rock engravings. You will also hear stories suggested to be over 60,000 years old. Visually and culturally Akaroo Rock is a testament to one of the oldest living cultures in the world.

Stokes Hill Sundowners $58

Depart the Resort in the groups coach vehicle and drive 30 minutes to Stokes Hill, 1 ½ hours prior to sunset. Including beer, wine, sparkling wine and soft drinks, as well as specialized canapés. A fantastic way to finish the day while marveling at the ancient landscape from a spectacular local viewing location.

Scenic Flight (30 min) $199

A “must do” experience and the only way to see Wilpena Pound in all of its immense majesty is from the air. This puts it into perspective and enables you to appreciate the vastness of its formation.

1/2 day guided 4WD tour $189

Discover the fascinating geological, cultural and settler’s history of the Flinders Ranges. The world renowned “Corridor Through Time” explores more than 100 million years of this history of the earth. Learn the Adnyamathanha creation story of Wilpena Pound and search for the Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby.

Transfers Getting your guests to Wilpena may seem a little daunting, but we are happy to assist. The journeys by road, and by air, are both stunning and offer a variety of different landscape features to see on the way.

Scenic Air Tour (ADL-WPR) $1000

The quickest and most amazing way to arrive at Wilpena Pound. This service is provided by Alliance Airlines and WrightsAir. The flight consists of two sectors (approximately 1.5 hours each) that connect at Olympic Dam Airport (OLP). The flights offer a great view of the scenic South Australian outback. Note: Groups discounts are available on request.

Road Transfers (ADL-WPR) $400

Want to start and end your experience from your front door? We can arrange a local guide to collect your guests and provide them with stories, history and information while they travel. Stopping for lunch in the beautiful Clare Valley, this is a connected and casual way to get to Wilpena Pound Note: Minimum 10 people.

Terms & Conditions Prices: All prices quoted are in AUD (including GST).

Final numbers: Guaranteed minimum final numbers and signed event order must be provided 60 days prior to arrival.

Credit card fees: All payments made via Credit Card will incur a 2% surcharge.

Deposits, Payments & Cancellations:

All group and event bookings must confirm and pay deposits according to the below:

1. Confirmation of the booking will be provided with a contract and deposit invoice. To secure your booking the deposit of 20% of total cost and signed contract must be returned within 7 days.

2. A second deposit will be required, along with minimum final numbers 60 days prior to the event. This will deposit will be calculated to be 50% of the updated total event cost. Cancellations between 60 to 31 days prior to arrival will incur a fee of 50% of total booking costs.

3. Full payment is required no later than 30 days prior to arrival. 30-0 days prior to arrival will incur a fee of 100% of total booking cost
