Know YourAirconditioner
Blue Star Mega Split Airconditioners are available
in several models.
Know Your Model NumberYou can identify the model number of your AC
based on the tonnage:
Nominal Tonnage Model
2.5 MHW301RC
3.0 MHW361RC
All split airconditioners consist of two main
components, the Indoor Unit (IDU) and the
Outdoor Unit (ODU). While the former is installed
inside the airconditioned room, the latter is kept
outside. This is because all the heat from inside
is rejected outside through the ODU. The ODU
houses the all-important part of your airconditioner
– the compressor. Blue Star ODUs are capable of
withstanding a 500 hour salt spray test. The
condenser coil uses coated ‘blue fins’ to enhance
coil efficiency and life, and to protect it from
chemicals and corrossion due to salinity.
The IDU is mounted on one of the walls of the
room to be airconditioned. The ODU can be
mounted on a wall, sunshade or skirting, outside
the room. The two units are connected through
refrigerant pipes made of copper.

InstallationLocating the indoor and outdoor units properly willhe lp opt imise the per formance o f your
airconditioner. While your Blue Star/Dealer’s
Technician will be happy to guide you on the bestlocation for your airconditioner, here are a few
helpful hints.
Locating the Indoor Unit1. Locate the IDU for the best cool air circulation.
Avoid obstructions in the way of the aircirculation.
2. Do not locate the unit directly opposite a doorwhich is opened frequently. The cold air willgo out of the room each time the door isopened thus wasting energy.
3. All indoor units will form condensate water.Provision must be made to drain thiscondensate from within the indoor unit to theoutside or into a toilet or similar space. Thetechnician will make sure that a ‘U’ bend isprovided along the drain pipe to preventinsects from coming into the room throughthe drain tube.

Locating the Outdoor UnitThe outdoor unit houses the compressor, condenser, condenser fan and electr ical
components. The heat removed from the room is
expelled to the atmosphere through the outdoorunit.
Once again, the Blue Star/Dealer’s Technician will
ensure optimal installation of the ODU for you.
However, the following information will be of interestto you.
1. The Outdoor Unit can be mounted on a wall, sunshade or skirting.
2. Ideally, the ODU should not be too far awayfrom the IDU; the recommended distancesare marked in the figure alongside.
3. Ensure that air can pass freely through theunit. Please allow at least 2 metres freespace on the air outlet side, and 0.3 metreson the air inlet side.
4. If more than one ODU is to be installed, theymust be properly separated, so that the warmair from the outlet of one does not enter theinlet of the other.

5. Avoid long and complicated routing of pipesbetween the IDU and ODU, as shown in thethree adjacent figures.
a. Too long
b. Too high
c. Too many bends
6. The ODU must be placed on a strong frameor support. If mounted on a wall, pleaseensure that the wall is thick enough and thatthe frame is supported adequately.
7. Finally, it is most important that the ODU iseasily accessible to the service technician. Itis advisable to discuss the same with thesales engineer before deciding upon thelocation of the Unit.
If the ODU is to be located on a high ledge,it will be a good idea to provide a ‘catwalk’ (aplatform) around the Unit and an accessdoor/window close to the outdoor unit location.
Electrical OutletAfter the locations of the outdoor unit and indoor
unit are finalised, you must provide a suitable
electrical outlet near the indoor unit.
