Current State of Packaged Apps

• Functional and industry specific on-premise apps are built along organizational silos (HR, sales, finance, procurement, …).

• Due to the hard wired process logic (stuck in cement) and inflexible data models they are extremely difficult to change

• Configuration is built from technical people for technical people and not for business people (insight out and not outsight in)

• Customization is based on table and parameter settings and not on business processes

• These apps have a high time to value and are limiting rapid change and fast innovation

February 22, 2012 | 5

Difficult to connect to mobile and cloud solutions

Apps form a barrier to innovation

Poor support for unstructured content

Poor industry-specific funtionality

Can’t extend processes to external partners

Inflexibility limits process change

Poor internal/external collaboration tools

Lack of visibility into process results

Mismatch between apps and business requirements

Poor cross-functional processes

Diÿcult to upgrade

High cost of ownership

Enterprise App Functionality often fails to meet Business needs
