A happy memory... Mehdy at the end of the row was as excited as the rest

of us when Raleigh Charter was not announced as third place, and we

knew our efforts meant our team had earned either second or first place.

He was an amazing team player, and a person so humble that he did not

wear his medals like everyone else, even though it was a science olympiad

I can’t describe how I feel right now. Why is it that the good ones always

go so early? I feel a sense of responsibility to continue what he started

and described in his speech. We have to become the principles that

Mehdy lived for. It’s what he directly asked of us in his speech.

Mehdy dedicated his life to God, he is alive and among us, we just don’t

perceive him because we haven’t planted Mariums seed in “our spiritual

ruins”

Mehdy Jan, where can I start? I remember you as a child, playing super

mario brothers on nintendo and our family trips to san diego beach. You

and my sister loved soccer, loved to be goofy, and loved to climb trees.

Visiting your family this weekend, I realize what a wonderful human being

you had become. Your love for Rumi is something we have in common.

Your beloved, God is who you wanted to be with these past years...your

parents may have not understood that, but they do now. You are beyond

this world, and belong in heaven. May Allah (swt) grand your janat-e-

I did not know Mehdy, but I saw how much he means to his family and

friends. I was volunteering Saturday in the ICU waiting room at the

hospital. And even though I did not know him nor his family, they will

always be with me now. It was such a tragedy and all I wanted to do was

reach out to his family and friends that came to the hospital. I knew there

was nothing I could possibly do or say, but I prayed. And I have continued

to keep everyone in my prayers. Without knowing it, Mehdy and his family

touched my soul. I knew he was a special person, just based off everyone

else who was there. And then I read his speech, and I loved every word he

wrote. I pray that one day, his dream for our world will come true.

I am so sorry for everyone's loss and I will continue to keep you all in my

prayers.

of one of my closest friends. The news of his fall and death has really

touched me in a way that I can't describe. I've found myself visiting this

support page at least a couple of times a day, reading through the

thoughtful and kind words his friends and family continue to share. What

a tragic loss.. a bright kid with an even brighter future. My prayers are

Mehdy was my favorite cousin when I was younger and he still is. I'm

happy to have created unforgettable childhood memories with him. When

It is related that once 10 learned men approached Hazrat Imam Ali

(Alaihis Salaam) . They wanted to know how knowledge was better than

wealth and they requested that each one of them be given a separate

answer. Hazrat Imam Ali (Alaihis Salaam) answered them as follows:

(1) Knowledge is the legacy of the Prophet, whereas wealth is the

inheritance of the Pharaohs. As the prophets are superior to the Pharaohs,

so knowledge is better than wealth.

(2) You have to guard your wealth, but knowledge will guard you.

Therefore, knowledge is better than wealth.

(3) When knowledge is distributed it increases. When wealth is distributed

it decreases. As such knowledge is better than wealth.

(4) A man of wealth has many enemies, while a man of knowledge has

classmate at Harvard this Fall. I was so devastated when I heard what

I met Mehdy on the Princeton University campus during Princeton Preview,

a weekend event open to all of Princeton's accepted students. We were

roommates for the weekend. In that short three day's time, Mehdy struck

me as a gem to anyone who had the good fortune of knowing him--a

conscientious, selfless, friendly, intelligent young man with a bright

future and an even more illuminating heart and spirit. Though my efforts

were futile, I did try--several times!--to convince Mehdy to attend

Princeton with me in the fall. There is no doubt in my mind that we would

have been great friends.

I admit I did not know Mehdy as well as many of the other 832 (what

amazing support!) people on this page. As a fellow 18 year old, college-

bound High School senior, however, I can't help but derive one simple

message from this terrible news: that life is precious and fragile. May we

all remember Mehdy Hazheer, and integrate his good-nature into all of

our lives.

Im from Australia and have never heard of Mehdy till this day but Im

deeply saddened. From reading all the posts i gather that he is a truly

amazing person and surely lived his life in the manner that Imam Ali (AS)

advices us all to live - "Live amongst people in such a manner that if you

die they weep over you and if your alive they crave for your company."

The whole Raleigh Charter family is mourning the loss of a wonderful,beautiful member of our community, especially the Class of 2011. Weare all so sad that he is not with us here to experience this wonderfulnew beginning in our lives and the newfound independence that wehave earned with 18 years of hard work and dedication. I want to be at the funeral so badly, but I will be out of town. There's

something I want to say about Mehdy that I have already told some

people. Mehdy was a truly intellectual guy, but an unusual one. Almost all

intellectuals I have ever known just want to hear themselves talk; they

deign to listen to others simply because they need something to argue

against (for what it's worth, that's me). Mehdy, however, truly wanted to

hear others' opinions. He recognized that others, even if they disageed

with him, had a lifetime of experience and thought to support their

worldviews, and he wanted to hear what they had to say. Whenever I was

having discussions with him, whether in Philosophy Club, English, or

Physics, I had to be careful to not even LOOK like I had something to say

when he was talking; otherwise, he would interrupt himself to let me talk,

without me even having said anything. He understood that it takes two to

have a conversation. His respect for others was truly incomparable.

I want to thank everyone for supporting and praying for Mehdy. Despite

the outcome, nobody's prayer went to waste. People that were in the

hospital longer than him started to feel better. Their families said because

Mehdy brought us all together to to pray that the people around started

The news of death is always sad but the death like this is tragedy. I never

met him but I can imagine what a great preson he was by reading all

these comments. Hazrat Imam Ali (A.S ) quotation : The one of the sign of

great person is that you don't need to remember them, their memories

lives with you.

May allah give the Hazheer family strenght to recovery from this

unbearable loss and grant Mehdy the place in Jannat Ameen.

To the parents and family of Mehdy, just know that he was a gift from

Allah SWT and it was time for him to return to his creator. Be grateful that

he lead a righteous life and left your heads raised high and making you

be proud to be the father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, cousin,

and friend of such a fine young human being. I know how hard it is to

lose your loved one, but time heals all pain and may Allah SWT ease your

pain and give you the comfort in the great memories that you have

Mehdy. My deepest condolences once again to the Hazheer family.

I did not know Mehdy at all, and only heard about him through my

nephews Hamad Hamid and Zarak Aslam. He was a dear friend of them

and to see how much they were hurting over his loss made my heart

break into pieces too. My tears can't stop flowing. It is the worst

nightmare for a parent, to outlive thier child, but Allah has better plans

for him Inshallah. My heart goes out to his family and I pray that Allah

blesses them with patience and strength. This is an ultimate test for

them. May Allah grant him the highest place in paradise. Amen

I am at a loss for words. Working with you on the Relief Effort was so fun

because you took the reigns and made it easier for everyone. Your

relentless push for t-shirts may not have pulled through but regardless,

you didn't back down from your beliefs. And from what I've read, you

didn't back down from much. Your effort to help those around you in

every aspect will be remembered and truly missed. Your dedication to the

community and your regard for others was strongly contagious and I'm

proud to say you are my friend. It was really great getting to know you

Mehdy, it breaks my heart to know that you are leaving Earth so early,

physically. I know you will be here in spirit forever. You are truly one of a

kind and you were the kind of person who made everyone think of great

things and you made such a big difference.I will cherish my memories of

you. It was a joy having you in my AP psych class and listening to you

discuss your point of view.Your love for people and life was outstanding

Mehdy, and people have that same love for you. To me, you are an

educator because you taught me so much about myself and life, just for

briefly knowing you for one year. I will never forget riding to the art

museum with you as you and Dr. Busonik debated what art means and I

was laughing the whole time because I couldn't comprehend the big

words you both exchanged. It is sad to see you go right before you would

My favorite memory of you was in Psych class. We were all trying to

desperately brainstorm a trend to put our class over the edge so we could

get 1% more on our final grade. For some reason we came up with

bandanas (why, I will never know). You were SO dedicated to the cause

that when we tried to change the trend because other classes had found

out, we messaged each other about decoy trends, and decoy trends for

the decoys. You kept trying to tie it in with tornado relief and Social

Justice Club. Ms. Koch even had to ask you to stop being so involved with

it because any time someone mentioned the word 'bandana' people would

think of you and 4th period. You have a bandana on in our class picture

even though the trends challenge had ended!!

I hope that someday I will have the dedication and love that you showed

every day. For now, I choose to remember you forever as the man in our

senior picture. You are so, so missed but I know you are in a better place

now.

Our family had the pleasure of getting to know Mehdy almost each day in

carpool when we were new to RCHS. Mehdy was a true "Citizen of the

World" as RCHS inspires its students to be. He was polite, humble, witty

and a person I hope my daughters always remember and revere. We had

several discussions in the car about his faith, although different from

ours, and the commonalities. Mehdy passed away on the day of the

Catholic Feast of the Ascension into Heaven. Mehdy - people of all faiths

and families miss you deeply and we pray for your family.

Even though I have posted many comments expressing my grief, I still

cannot totally comprehend what has struck me in these past few days.

The first news was accompanied with shock, and every further step added

another layer of dismay. Every time I do not focus on something, my mind

wanders to this subject: Mehdy's fate. And maybe that is what makes him

so great; so missed; so loved. I still can't believe the news, even though I

have known for a while now. But eventually, realization will hit me. And I

will finally understand to the full extent of what it meant to lose you. This

is your legacy.

I have never known such a compassionate individual. I will never forget

the first time I spoke to Mehdy. He greeted me with a traditional "Salaam

alaikum." I was so taken aback that I responded in the language of my

own faith, wishing him "Shalom." Mehdy, being the understanding and

caring person he was, simply smiled, shook my hand, and began a long

conversation about the intricacies and similarities of our two religions.

We all know how much Mehdy loved his religion. He was one of the only

people I have ever known who not only knew the scriptures by heart but

also lived his life as close to them as he could. I have no doubt that he is

in heaven, probably discussing Sufi poetry with Rumi, his favorite poet.

May he live on in the memories of those whose lives he touched and the

beautiful poetry he left behind.

Medhy, the Saturday you arrived to Wake Med intensive care, my family

and I were there caring for my wife's father after heart surgery.

Throughout the day we saw your family and friends gather, worry, pray,

console, wait, cry, and agonize. Anonymously, we watched and wondered

what brought you there - what brought you to this moment. Perhaps we

will never know. But as I witnessed the amount of love for you from across

faiths, skin colors, ages, and tongues, we came to see that you are one

who is immensely loved. How blessed you are. How blessed they are. Of

course, maybe through our humanity we don't see how your work here

could possibly be done or why you were called to suffer. But God has love

for every human life. So may He care for you, Mehdy, and the Hazheer

family. And in my feeble way, this stranger prays for you too.

This really made me realize that people you love can be taken from you at

the drop of a hat. I made sure to call all my best friends and family to tell

them that I love them. I wasn't a close friend of Mehdy's but this is

honestly one of the saddest things that I've heard. I hope that Mehdy's

family knows that they have a strong support system and everyone is

rooting for him. I think everyone else should take the time to let the

special people in their life know how much they mean to them. $

My boys are so devastated. They are very close to Mehdy. We are all

praying for Mehdy's recovery. It doesn't matter what the doctors say. Allah

is BIG. He can do anything! He can turn this around if it is His will.
