The Future: Leadership and Management
Omani nursing leaders should be prepared to face the future
challenges.
Leaders should develop a clear performance management model
Formal education for Nursing Administration ought to be at Master

A few Omani nursing leaders may also be prepared in business
management, research, law or ethics.
PhD is a need
The Future: Human Resources
Nursing shortages are mainly in specialist areas.
Entry level to the profession must be at BSc.
The projection of the future needs should take into
consideration:
– The projected connection between supply and demand,
– Planning and distribution to ensure the skill mix is fulfilling
the customers needs (in hospital and community).
Regulations of the profession will bring stability
in a time of change (One umbrella)
Form nursing association to represent nurses
The Future: Regulation
Evidence based practice built on research and the
utilization of research is
Essential for the future of the professions to be both
credible in the eyes of their health service colleagues
and the public.
Ensure that the rules and regulations support the
application of EBP
The Future: Evidence Based Practice
Develop a system that includes competencies of the
specialisations, needs and scope of practice.
Develop educational parameters that support the emerging

Expansion of specialities and sub-specialities.
The focus should be more on community services,
particularly the care of elderly, the design and use of
community supplied equipments.
The Future: Specialization and Advanced Practice
