The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on September 8th, nine months after the Immaculate Conception on December 8th. Our knowledge of the names of Mary’s parents Joachim and Anne does not come from the Scriptures, but from an apocryphal (non-Scriptural) work called the “Protoevangelium of James”. Probably written around 145 AD, it was never accepted by the Church as part of the Canon of Scripture, but has remained popular through the centuries.

Calming the Storm Recall the story of Jesus calming the storm (Matthew 8:23-27). This miraculous act was done as a prophetic sign of Him bringing you peace during the particular challenges you face in life. Jesus did this on a practical level for the safety and well-being of His Apostles. However, by showing that He had absolute and immediate authority over the storm at sea, Jesus also made it clear that He has absolute and immediate authority over any storm within your life, pledging His closeness in your midst. It should be consoling to you to know that there is nothing too much for God’s omnipotence. He can do all things and can bring peace to any and every situation. Knowing this should give you confidence as you surrender your “storms” to Him. And when the storm remains fierce, despite your prayers, you should be assured that it is for your good or the good of others. It’s an opportunity to deepen your trust in Him and to know of His particular closeness in those moments.

We are very happy that we now have online giving on our parish website. Most parishioners make their regular contributions to the parish by envelopes only 38 times out of 52 in the year. There are many reasons for this: vacations, business trips, illness, and snowstorms. With Online Giving you can make sure that the parish will receive your offertory pledge each week even when for good reason you are not at Mass at St. Mary’s on the weekend. It is so important for the parish to have a steady and uninterrupted cash flow to enable us to meet our many financial obligations, all of which are a necessary part of our parish life and which enable us to be a special parish with a special mission to the Church and to the world. Dear Parent(s), Our Religious Education/RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) classes will begin on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. The classes will begin at 6:45pm until 8:30pm. This program is designed to prepare people to receive one or more of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Communion, and/or Confirmation. Anyone over 7 years of age is eligible to enter the RCIA program. It is important to understand that this Tuesday night program is the only opportunity to prepare to receive Communion and/or Confirmation at St. Mary’s Parish. It is also important to note that any student participating in the program will be required to have one parent in attendance with him/her at the Tuesday night classes. Mass attendance for both students and parents is also mandatory. The student will be responsible for bringing a bulletin to class every Tuesday evening when they come to class to show that they attended Mass. The bulletin also will contain the material that will be covered in the Tuesday night class. There will be an expectation that certain basic prayers and facts will be memorized and that the parent and child are able to discuss basic aspects of the Faith with the pastor or his representative. It may be that for some, the time of preparation will need to be longer. If you are interested in preparing yourself and/or your child for the reception of the sacraments, please come to the Religious Education Office to register. There is no fee for this program and all needed materials will be provided by the parish.

Explanation of the Faith Formation Program Fr. Ringley hopes to merge three different models of formation in the Faith: 1. The typical RCIA format that is used for adults who wish to receive their sacraments, 2. The traditional religious education classroom model, and 3. A small faith community model. 1. There will be no fees for this program. This will eliminate the expectation that because one has paid a fee the desired sacrament(s) will be received. 2. Each participating family must be registered at St. Mary’s Parish and using either their envelopes or online giving to support the parish financially (see CCC 2043). 3. Class attendance with one parent together with their children every scheduled Tuesday is mandatory. If a student has more than 3 absences, they will not receive any sacraments that school year 4. Mass attendance every Sunday is mandatory (See CCC 2042). Remember that if one freely chooses to skip Sunday Mass, one must go to Confession before receiving Holy Communion again. 5. Punctuality is essential. Anyone arriving more than 5 minutes late to class will be considered absent. Those with multiple absences will not be permitted to continue the program. Catholicism is, among other things, a commitment to a way of life. 6. All sacramental records and sponsor certificates must be in by February 2, 2021.

Plan for the Class: We will all gather in the main church at 6:45pm and we will take class and Mass attendance. 1. The first 20 minutes of the evening will be a devotional exercise, namely Rosary, Divine Mercy, Stations of the Cross, Adoration, Mass music practice, etc. 2. Fr. Ringley will present the topic for the evening (20-30 minutes). 3. Fr. Ringley will alternate languages each week. One group will be live in Church, the other group will be in the gym watching the video in their language. There will be periodic assessments to ensure that parents and children are assimilating the material. Memorization of prayers (e. g. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, grace before and after meals, Act of Contrition, Nicene Creed, Mass parts, etc.) will be expected.

RCIA HO clase 2 – Tres preguntas

Clase 1. LA GRAN PREGUNTA:: ¿Existe Dios? La ciencia no puede probar ni refutar la existencia de Dios . La razón, y cierto componente científico sugieren la posibilidad / probabilidad de la existencia de Dios. 1. Argumento del movimiento a. Todo lo que se mueve necesita ser movido por algo o por alguien más. Nada se mueve por si solo. Ejemplo: Un bastón no se mueve solo, necesita de la mano para moverse. b. No puede haber una regresión infinita de motores, es decir, vengo de mis padres, que vinieron de sus padres, que vinieron de sus padres, etc. Debe haber un punto de partida. c. Llamamos a ese punto de partida el primer motor: DIOS. d. Ejemplo = mesa de billar. Las bolas no se moverán solas. Alguien o algo tiene que iniciar el movimiento. 2. El argumento del diseño. a. El universo está bien diseñado. b. Todo diseño tiene un diseñador. c. A ese diseñador le llamamos DIOS. (Todavía no le llamamos Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo). d. Ejemplo = Un vestido de novia. Si coloco en la calle unas yardas de tela, botones, cremalleras, encajes, agujas, tijeras e hilo y espero por un accidente para que se confeccione el vestido de novia, ¿Cuánto tiempo tendré que esperar? Además debo preguntarme, ¿de donde vino la tela, la aguja, los hilos los encajes, etc? Por otro lado, si la tierra es un accidente (olvídate del resto del universo) esto es infinitamente más complicado que un vestido de novia. La ciencia nos dice que nada se hace por si misma. Si el universo es un accidente sin un diseñador, ¿de dónde vino la materia? e. El Carbono, hidrógeno, oxígeno, nitrógeno = CHON. Estos son los componentes básicos de todos los compuestos orgánicos (Vida). Algunas teorías sostienen que si no hay Dios, estos átomos / elementos se unieron accidentalmente para comenzar la primera célula viva. Esta célula viva evolucionó en todas las otras formas de vida en la tierra. La ciencia no indica que esto haya sido lo que sucedió. 3. La Evolución. ¿Tu crees en la evolución? Existen dos tipos (Ver folleto del padre Baker) a. La teoría de la microevolución, es decir, la evolución dentro de una sola especie se ha demostrado científicamente. Por ejemplo, cuando las circunstancias ambientales cambian, los organismos que se reproducen rápidamente, como los insectos, se adaptan muy rápidamente a su nueva circunstancia ambiental. La teoría de la macroevolución, es decir, la evolución entre especies sugiere que una especie evoluciona hacia otra. Por ejemplo, el pez prehistórico salió del agua y evolucionó hasta convertirse en aves. No existe evidencia en el registro fósil para apoyar la teoría de la macro evolución. LA GRAN PREGUNTA. ¿Es Jesucristo Dios? (Ver las tres preguntas en el suplemento 2) a. Los milagros de Jesús: ¿realmente sucedieron? ¿Realmente resucitó de entre los muertos? No podemos probarlo. b. El autor inglés C.S. Lewis escribió que Jesús era un mentiroso, un loco o el Señor. Lewis explicó que si Jesús era un mentiroso, engañó a muchas personas para que pensaran que él era el Señor, pero sabía que no lo era. Si era un loco, realmente creía que era el Señor, pero no lo era. Si no era un mentiroso ni un loco (y no hay una buena razón para creer que tampoco lo era), debe haber sido quien dijo que era, es decir, el Señor. c. La historia del ganso: Un granjero vio una bandada de gansos perdidos en una tormenta de nieve. Trató de convencerlos para que entraran en su granero, pero no lo logró. Pensó para sí mismo, si solo pudiera convertirme en un ganso, podría volar hasta la manada y llevarlos al granero en donde estarían seguros. d. ¿Por qué Dios se hizo hombre? Para llevarnos a la seguridad espiritual de la Iglesia y el Cielo. GRAN pregunta III. ¿Estableció una Iglesia Jesucristo? a. El Nuevo Testamento nos dice que Jesús estableció su Iglesia con Pedro a la cabeza (MT 16:16). La historia nos dice que esa misma Iglesia ha sido dirigida en sucesión por 267 papas desde Pedro. b. En 1517, Martín Lutero comenzó la Reforma protestante y comenzó la Iglesia luterana. No creía que hubiera siete sacramentos, sino solo dos. ¿Es razonable pensar que Martín Lutero, o cualquiera de sus seguidores, tenía razón, y que el Señor Dios permitió que Su Iglesia estuviera equivocada por 1,517 años, en cuestiones tan importantes como el sacerdocio, la confesión y la Eucaristía? Esto no parece razonable. ¿Quién soy? De donde vengo ¿A dónde voy? ¿Por qué estoy aquí?

La Biblia es una colección de libros. 72 libros: 45 AT(Antiguo Testament), 27 NT(Nuevo Testamento). "Escritura" del latín scriptus = escrito, garabato, guion, prescripción, suscripción Diferentes autores, diferentes géneros, escritos en diferentes momentos Inspiración (spiritus, perspire, respire, expire, etc.). Dios movió / dirigió / impulsó a los autores humanos a escribir lo que Él quería que escribieran, pero en su propia lengua, en sus propias palabras y en su propio contexto cultural. Traducciones: Recuerde que el AT fue escrito en hebreo y otros idiomas antiguos, y que el NT fue escrito en griego. Se han realizado numerosas traducciones. Toda traducción implica interpretación. Ejemplo de desafíos de traducción: "presbítero" en Santiago 5 y liturgia del Sacramento de la Unción. Anciano, sacerdote, presbítero. ¿Qué es? Depende de la teología. P.ej. Juan Calvino versus la Iglesia de CR. KJV (1611) RSV (1952), NAB (1970) NIV (NKJV, NRSV) (lenguaje incluido) Por ejemplo, los hermanos del Señor, y el uso de Pablo de "hermanos" en contraposición a los hermanos y hermanas. El Canon de la Escritura (= la elección de la lista de libros): versión protestante vs. versiones católicas "Canon" = Gk. varilla, medida, estándar. SACRAMENTO DEL BAUTISMO Nuestra iglesia Santa María recibe con brazos abiertos a miembros inscritos, y a católicos que residan dentro del perímetro de la iglesia, y que deseen bautizar a sus niños. Si pertenecen a otra iglesia, traer carta de la iglesia a que pertenecen, indicando que son miembros, que cumplen con los requisitos para ser padrinos, y que asisten a la Santa Misa semanalmente.

SACRAMENTO DE MATRIMONIO Las parejas que deseen contraer matrimonio, deberán asistir a la Santa Misa semanalmente, y vivir en residencias separadas.
