Welcome to Introduction to Advocacy (ITA). This course builds on the research, writing, and analytical skills you learned in Introduction to Lawyering Skills. It is a 2-credit course taught primarily by adjunct writing professors. Each section of ITA will have approximately 12-14 students. Schedule information for the course appears in the attached document. This memo is intended to give you some general information about the course.

You will have three types of class meetings in ITA: Large group meetings with me; small section meetings with your writing professor; and small section meetings with your Teaching Assistant. Large group and TA meetings will be scheduled from time to time over the course of the semester. The first large group and TA meetings will take place during the first week of class, as noted below. Most of the classes during the spring will be weekly, 75-minute small group meetings with your writing professor. The attached schedule lists the day and time for your writing professor class. Meetings with writing professors will begin the week of January 19.

You do not need to buy new textbooks for ITA; you will continue to use the research, writing, and citation texts you used for Introduction to Lawyering Skills.

The syllabus and structure of ITA will be explained in more detail during the first large group meeting on Tuesday, January 13. Introduction to Advocacy Large Group will meet* on the following Tuesdays: January 13,2009, February 10,2009, and March 24,2009.

Small section Writing Professor assignment and meeting schedule is set out below. Room assignments will be provided by January 12, 2009. Writing Professor classes begin meeting the week of January 19,2009.

Students will meet with their Teaching Assistant during the week of January 12. A separate schedule is included at the end of this document.
