SUBJECT: EOD Bomb Suit and Helmet Purchase

ACTION REQUESTED Approve the purchase of an EOD Bomb Suit and Helmet from Med-Eng, LLC of Ogdensburg, NY in the amount of $25, 150, authorize the Purchasing Manager to execute all related documents and update the Master Fixed Asset List to reflect the correct description. A 2015 grant award from the Department of Homeland Security will fund this purchase.

BACKGROUND The Sheriff's Office Explosive Ordinance Detail (EOD) participates in Sacramento Area Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit Memorandum of Understanding. Through this MOU, the Placer County Sheriff's Office has agreed to provide the EOD unit with two protective bomb suits to aid in the removal of potential explosive devices. In 2015, the Sheriff's Office sought grant funding from the Department of Homeland Security for the purchase of a new EOD Bomb Suit and Helmet; an award in the amount of $25,355 was approved. This new suit and helmet will replace an existing unit which is set to expire.

Under the FY 2016-17 Master Fixed Asset List, Sheriff's Office Appropriation 21780, an asset is erroneously listed as a "Sedan" for the amount of $25,355; this asset should appear on the MFAL as an "EOD Bomb Suit". Wrth Your Board's approval, the MFAL will be updated to reflect the correct description.

FISCAL IMPACT Funding for this purchase has been provided by a grant award from the Department of Homeland Security. There is no impact to the General Fund.
