TRANSCRIPT

The mission of Endicott College is to instill in students an understanding of and an appreciation for professional and liberal studies. Deeply woven within this philosophy is the concept of applied learning, which has been the hallmark of Endicott. Linking classroom and off-campus work experi-ence through required internships remains the most distinguishing feature of the College.

Endicott has a vision for the total development of the individual within a community that fosters an appreciation of diversity, international awareness, community service, and moral and ethical values. Endicott is an innovative and vibrant, student-centered institution that supports undergraduate and graduate students in their pursuit of knowledge.

Common threads run through the fabric of the Endicott experience: increased self-confidence, stronger professional skills and technological competencies, and perhaps the most valued of all, lives open to change.

endicott facts & figures

The men’s assistant basketball coach, Reggie Hobbs, played a pivotal role in my decision to attend Endicott College. After briefly explaining all that Endicott had to offer academically and athletically, we scheduled a time for a campus visit. Upon my arrival, I was instantly impressed with the campus scenery and environment. Following a brief campus tour, I was introduced to a few administrators and faculty members. They were extremely welcoming and generous to have me at their institution. Likewise, I had an opportunity to meet a few of the Endicott basketball players; they too were very open and friendly. Ultimately, it was at that moment in time that I realized Endicott might be the perfect place for me. – Lance Greene

lachlan magee ‘13While on my college search, I visited a handful of schools. My goal was to find a school rich in athletic tradition, a challenging academic program, and a campus I could see myself living at for the next four years. Out of all the schools I visited, I could not find one that of-fered all three, until I visited Endicott. Since then, Endicott has been a perfect fit for me. It has provided me with a competitive basketball program, a beautiful campus, and an academic program that will better prepare me for my future. I could not be happier with my decision to be a student-athlete at Endicott. – Bennett Knowlton

Before coming to Endicott, I attended a Division 1 university where athletics were the only important aspect. Endicott, however, was the perfect fit for me academically, socially, and athletically. I was allowed to continue playing basketball and still be able to focus on my academics. Division III provided me with an opportunity to be a normal college kid all while playing against some of the top competition. - Tyler Burkhart

Gulls lost by 23 to the Vikings who made it to the MASCAC Semifinals in 2012-13.

Last winter is all but a distant memory for the Endicott men’s basketball program. There were a number of good memories from the 2012-13 season – celebrating

guard Lance Greene’s (Dorchester, Mass.) 1,000th-career point and CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, watching guard John Henault (Lunenburg, Mass.) lead the nation in free-throw shooting (94.2%), and several other standout individual efforts – but unfortunately the bad outweighed the good for the Blue and Green.

The good news is that head coach Phil Rowe, who enters his fifth season at Endicott and 24th overall on the sidelines, his coaching staff, and his players have no choice but to turn the page and look ahead to what hopes to be a return into prominence in the CCC and the region. Endicott is just one season removed from capturing the 2011-12 CCC Championship and nearly winning their first NCAA Tournament game in program history and with the talent that is returning and the talent that is brand new to this team, the Gulls have the opportunity to rebound this winter.

The Gulls said goodbye to Greene, a four-year starter and upstanding member of the Endicott community who graduated this past May, and will look to replace the 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game the four-time All-CCC honoree put up over the course of his career. Greene surpassed 1,000 points for his career last season and moved into the top-10 in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, and several other statistical categories.

Greene, however, was Endicott’s lone senior and only substantial loss from last year’s team as Rowe will welcome back Henault as well as several other high-impact upperclassmen including the 2011-12 CCC Rookie of the Year Andre Makris (Southbury, Conn.), junior big man Matt Kneece (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and graduate student Lachlan Magee (Melbourne, Australia). Combined, these four returners accounted for 60% of the scoring and 45% of the rebounding from 2012-13 and will relied upon to step up their game even further to fight their way through an

extremely competitive and balanced conference lineup.

Henault took a giant step forward in his sophomore season by leading the team with 16.4 points per game with a 47.0 FG% (151-of-321), a 41.1 3PT% (44-of-107), and a 94.2 FT% (65-of-69). The 6-2 guard was named to the All-CCC Second Team one season after earning Honorable Mention status in Endicott’s championship winning season. Joining Henault in the backcourt will be Magee, a dangerous shooter who can attack the hoop. Magee, an All-CCC player two years ago, battled injuries last season but will look to make an impact in his final season for Endicott as he sits just 14 points away from joining the program’s 1,000-point club.

In the frontcourt, Makris and Kneece have proved to be a reliable source of both offense and defense with the ability to run with Rowe’s high-paced approach. Both players average nearly a block per game while flirting with double digit points every time on the court. The Gulls will also look to second-year player Tell White (New Castle, N.H.), who transferred into Endicott last January and averaged almost six re-bounds a game, to help win the battle on the boards as well as provide an offensive spark off the bench.

Along with Endicott’s returning core will be a slew of newcomers to the Beverly campus including senior Greg Jacques (Brockton, Mass.) who was a significant con-tributor off the bench during Bentley’s 2011 NCAA Division II Tournament run which ended in the East Regional Finals. Jacques, a 5-11 guard out of St. Sebastian’s, averaged 6.7 points and 4.1 assists in his final season with the Falcons in 2011-12 and will be asked to play a major role in commanding the Endicott offense with the absence of Greene. Joining Jacques in the backcourt are freshmen Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.), a Bridgton Academy product with the explosive skills and defensive prowess the Gulls need to counter their opposition in both league and non-conference play, and

Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) out of Milton Academy, a NEPSAC Class A Second Team All-League guard. Another guard on the roster for Coach Rowe is Stephen Basden (Lynn, Mass.) from Governor’s Academy, an athletic scor-ing guard who can attack the rim.

Other forwards on the roster include sophomore junior college transfer Deven Richardson (Newark, N.J.), a powerful 6-5 presence that went to University High School. Daquan Sampson (Germantown, Md.), a highly sought after 6-6 forward out of Lawrence Academy with a skillset rarely seen at the Division III level, as well as Sam Johnson (Chatham, Mass.) and Justin Bristol (Wake-field, R.I.) from Cape Cod Academy and the Prout School are also expected to provide size and depth to the Endicott frontcourt this season. Sophomore Taylor Rioux (Ivoryton, Conn.), who appeared in five games last year at Trinity (Conn.), plays with a high motor and will provide toughness and additional depth for the Gulls.

Endicott tips off their 2013-14 campaign on November 15th-16th at the Wheaton Invitational where the Gulls take on Fisher on Friday night before playing the host Lyons or Maine Maritime. After their home opener on November 19th, Endicott visits the Rivier Live Free or Die Invitational before starting up their CCC schedule on the road, December 4th, at Gordon. Endicott will play host to league opponent Eastern Nazarene on December 7th before closing out the first semester at the Salem State Holiday Classic Tour-nament against Berkeley (N.Y.) and the host Vikings. The months of January and February consist entirely of conference games which will determine who qualifies for the CCC Tournament which runs from February 25th-March 1st. The winner of the CCC Championship will earn an automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament which begins with First and Second Round action from March 6th-8th.

Phil Rowe

We often remind each other proudly about our famous tagline ‘Discover the Experience’,” says Gulls men’s basketball head

coach Phil Rowe, who enters his fifth year at the helm of the pro-gram after capturing last season’s Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship. “But what I’ve found is that motto really resonates with the players that come through our program. Our guys will learn and grow over the course of their time at Endicott and come out of the experience as marketable men with a strong education.”

Rowe, a veteran coach with over 25 years of head and assistant coaching experience, knows what it takes to win with 275 victo-ries to his name. While the X’s and O’s may appear to be the an-swer to why Rowe has been successful over his career, it is much more than that. Rowe and his coaching staff work tirelessly to offer Endicott’s players a high-quality collegiate experience, they inspire passion for the game of basketball, and the team’s suc-cess has been a direct result of those efforts.

“When we recruit for our program, we first take a snapshot of Endicott’s profile from an academic standpoint and create a pool of applicants. Then we’ll review our basketball program needs and what we aspire to be, which is one of the best in New Eng-land at every position on the court, and recruit on the philosophy that we are a full court pressing team.”

Rowe’s approach to the game has produced an Endicott team that in the 2011-12 season led the Commonwealth Coast Con-ference in scoring (77.6 ppg), scoring margin (+6.2 ppg), and field goal percentage (.457) as well as several defensive cat-egories like opponent field goal percentage (.378) and blocked

shots (5.2 bpg).

“We want our roster to be multidimensional players, guys who can play all positions on the court. On game day, we want 10-14 guys ready to go because our style dictates spurts of 4-5 minutes of hard, aggressive play on the court. We recruit young men who want to be part of a team atmosphere and who can buy into our system, which we believe is a successful one.”

Rowe’s philosophy on recruiting student-athletes also applies to his coach-ing staff who he relies upon to cover a gamut of responsibilities ranging from recruiting to video exchange and everything in between. Second-year assistant coach Andrew Habermehl works with both forwards and guards on skill development at practice while acting as Rowe’s right-hand man during office hours. First-year assistant Chuck Davidson, a former men’s basketball player at CCC rival Roger Williams, is also vital to continuity at practices and games.

“In the end, the players that come through our program recognize the support that exists around them at Endicott. We embrace family, education, and the pursuit of excellence through sport, and we believe that philosophy will lead us to great things by the end of the season.”
