May/June 2020President’s Message

Welcome!

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,Humpty Dumpty had a great fall; All the King’s horsesAnd all the King’s men,Couldn’t put Humpty together again!

Heaven forbid what we have just witnessed and the continuing chaos, economic, health and otherwise. It was only last newsletter that we were talking about our events for the year and the successful completion of the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum tour. The February and March membership lunches in McKinney and Richardson were both great and well attended events with several new members.

And now we can’t schedule events planning nor board meetings if we expect over 10 members. The video conferencing apps are hugely popular, but somehow it isn’t

The North Texas Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America (MBCA) is dedicated to enhancing the ownership experience of the finest automobiles in the world. We engage in a variety of activities throughout the year that hopefully appeal to a broad section of our membership.

Currently our membership totals almost 1000 members who are committed to furthering their experience and enjoyment of their cars. Whether you’re a gear head, performance driver, rally enthusiast, cultural maven or social mingler, the MBCA North Texas Section had an upcoming event for you. Check out the Events section to see what’s coming up during the year, and for details on events that are just over the horizon.

the same and I’m not sure how we do an event via video conferencing? If things don’t change, we may have a chance to discover a video conferencing event. I guess we can watch all of the empty sporting events and literally see if necessity really is the mother of invention.

Gayle Brewer is supposed to be in her new play, You Can’t Take it With You at the Garland Civic Theatre, but it has been postponed at least 3 times. At the latest update her play is now on the schedule for some time in August 2020. I’ve had several requests for a current calendar of events, but frankly we just don’t know and dates are all on a “to be determined basis.” Best bet is to keep an eye on both the website and the Tuesday email blasts.

On a different note I get lots of interesting calls throughout the year and most involve Mercedes automobiles. Just last month I received an email from an individual that found himself responsible for disposing of 4 1980s vintage diesel and turbo diesel cars. The story is pretty familiar from here and many times the cars haven’t been driven for years. If you might be interested or know someone that is, please let me know and I can put you in touch.

When this coronavirus and COVID-19 pandemic eventually pass, we can slowly get back to business as usual. Until then “all the king’s horses and all the king’s men” will work to put Humpty Dumpty together again.

Very sincerely,Craig HalversonPresident, North Texas Section

This was our last club event before the Corona Virus shutdown. It sure seems like a long time ago...

18 folks braved the rain and Coronavirus to share lunch and stories at Aboca’s Italian Grill. Craig Halverson gave an overview of the Section, Ron Seifert gave an update on our Car Show events for the year, Gayle Brewer told the folks about a play that she will be in in April 4th and Tom Strohm gave an update on our recent Tech Session at Park Place Mercedes dealership. The food was great and as always talking about cars and food was fun.

Let’s go to dinner and the theatre!! The Events Committee of the North Texas section has planned another dinner and theatre night event! Come join us for an evening of food, fellowship, and fun on Saturday evening, August 8, 2020, with a dinner and then a theatre production. Put it on your calendar now!!

Club members will meet at Dos Banderos, 614 Main Street, Garland, TX at 5:00pm where we will enjoy individual Mexican food selections from the menu. Members will then drive for about 5 minutes over to the Garland Civic Theatre at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street, by 7:30pm for Robert Brewer to pick up tickets at Will Call.

Tickets are $20 each for reserved seats. We will see the Pulitzer Prize winning play, You Can’t Take It with You, a hilarious comedy, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman in 1937. Our own member, Gayle Brewer, will be playing the brief role of Gay Wellington, who has a drinking problem!

MBCA NTX Granbury Drive & Brewery Tour

September 26, 2020 * Granbury, TX

Join us for a fun day in Granbury, TX. We will visit Revolver Brewing Company to sample some of their fine beers, listen to a brewery presentation and enjoy live entertainment. Prior to stopping at Revolver, we will enjoy lunch at The Rib Shack. This is a really great BBQ place located close to the brewery. After the brewery visit, we will proceed to Granbury’s famous square for some antique shopping. If you don’t want to shop, there are several great restaurants and bars located on the square, too!

The Revolver Brewing $10 admission fee includes 4, 8oz pours of beer, a Revolver souvenir beer glass, the brewery presentation, and live entertainment. Pay your own admission. The brewery has plenty of picnic tables, but it’ll be prudent to bring lawn chairs just in case.

Lunch will be at the Rib Shack. This is a great BBQ place where we will grab lunch and arrive at the brewery with a full stomach.
