WELCOME AIRSTREAM INTERSTATE OWNERS

TO THE MERCEDES-BENZ CLUB OF AMERICA

Welcome to our Airstream Interstate members. The leader as well as the oldest in the travel trailer industry has teamed up

with the world's oldest and most innovative automobile manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, to give us the benchmark for motor homes. The Airstream Interstate by Mercedes-Benz is

without a doubt one of the finest motor homes on the market today. The Airstream has a notable history in the travel and

motor home industry, tracing its history back to probably the most famous aviator in the world, Charles Lindberg. William Hawley Bowlus the designer of the Spirit of St. Louis was an avid

glider pilot as was Charles Lindberg. They flew their gliders from La Jolla and Del Mar, CA setting several records for gliders at that time.

A problem they had was nowhere to spend the night after a day of gliding so being masters of innovation they decided to build a travel trailer to

spend the evenings in as well as transport their gliders. The result was the world's first practical travel trailer. Mr. Bowlus designed the trailer using

aircraft design features and all aluminum construction. This design produced a light weight self contained travel trailer that could be towed relatively easily by the automobiles in the 30ies. Bowlus built several

variation of the Bowlus Travel Trailer. In 1935 Bowlus teamed up with Wally Byam of what was to become Airstream to market his product.

Bowlus declared bankruptcy in 1936 and Byam acquired the Bowlus trailers and hired a few of the Bowlus workers. In 1936 a trailer with the Airstream nameplate was on the market which was virtually identical to the

Bowlus Products

Club Dinner at Firenze Trattoria

On October 18th, your fellow club members gathered for a lovely dinner at Firenze Trattoria. We shared stories, enjoyed some fantastic food, drank some wine and had a real nice evening making new friends.

At head of table is Gary Jarvis from Gary's right is Victoria, Denise, Michael, Dale, Bob, Ron, Marilyn, Brian, and Diana.

OKLAHOMA TERRITORY 1890 Through the magic of the theatre we were transported back to the

Oklahoma Territory where the wind comes sweeping cross the plain. We saw a barn dance and a pie supper, a fight and a touching romance. Since there were no Mercedes-Benz automobiles in Oklahoma then,

Curly the cowboy star, had to impress his gal with a Surry with a fringe on the top pulled by two white horses and isinglass curtains case the

weather changed. There was some doubt that Curly would get the Gal but in true western fashion the good guy won out and all ended well. Except for Jud, the bad guy

who fell on his own knife and expired right there on the spot. As they said in Chicago "he had it comin"! There was a speedy trial, Curly was found innocent and our hero rode off into the sunset with his gal. There was plenty of shootin up in the air so no one was hit. There was also lots of

singin and dancin to some toe tappin music, making it difficult to doze off after the nice dinner.

President’s Message

Now that the year is winding down, we reflect on all of the fun events and activities that we had in 2014. If you recall I mentioned at the beginning of the year that we

were going to shake things up a little by planning events with a different flair than in years past. We have added new events, new meeting locations, new themes and more laughs. Thank you to everybody that participated and helped make these

changes possible. But we aren’t done yet! This month we will continue the momentum by going to Lips. (See the write up in this issue) We will then finish up

the year with our December Holiday party. Let’s finish the year with a bang! Sign up now for these last events of the year.

Your Board of Directors are already planning some big new events for the upcoming year. If you would like to help with any upcoming event or be part of the success of the

club, we welcome you to join us. Please contact any of the board members listed on the front page of this newsletter to get the inside scoop. We hope to see you at an upcoming event soon.

Thank you for the continuing support! Michael Cooper

NEXT BOARD MEETING IS TUESDAY, November 18 6:30pm at Vintana

located at 1205 Auto Park Way, Escondido CA 92029 (Located above the Lexus dealership)

Please Note: The board has occasionally cancelled meetings when there is a small amount of business that can be considered adequately by telephone or e-mail. If you are considering joining us for a board meeting, you might want to call a board member first to be sure the meeting will take place as scheduled.

PICK AN EVENT How would you like to choose an outting, tour or an event for the Your Club?? Sounds like one

hell of an idea to me. All you have to do is go to your e-mail and enter [email protected] and say "I would like to do this"______________. Hit send and you are done. What could be

easier. No survey to fill out or other difficult, challenging task to perfrom. You may enter more than one desire if you want. For those of you who do not e-mail it gets really hard. You will either have to call 619-508-3925 or mail a letter to 16151 Fruitvale Road, Valley Center, Ca

92082 CA. You may rest assurred that your board will do what ever it takes within their power to fullfill your dream so long as it is legal, or pretty close.

To assist in this effort below are some ideas of past fun events we have had BUT, please feel free to think "outside the box" and think of a far out event.
