A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
2018 is already running at a fast pace While we are still unravelling first round NDIS plans for a few participants the processhas commenced for second round plans - this time they will be for two years thru to 2020 - thankfully - as a great deal of workis required from all involved Overall we are very pleased with the NDIS plans providing participants with increased supportmore flexibility and new opportunities
Accommodation and Service Agreements A quick reminder - can you please sign and return accommodation and service agreements as soon as possible as they areimportant contracts which provide detail of what is to be provided by Mercy Connect to your family member The serviceagreements capture those elements of the NDIS plans which Mercy Connect has agreed to provide to your family member
Property CommitteeWe are very pleased to advise that all group homes will be registered under the Supported Disability Accommodation (SDA)

We have been fortunate to gain the support of Mr David Hicks a past board member retired manager and environmentalconsultant who has agreed to chair the committee and also Mr Gerald Judd an Albury businessman as an independentmember These gentlemen will join Board members Michael OCallaghan and Jude Doughty on this new committeeThe terms of reference for the committee are to
Provide advice to the Board on the maintenance and care of all properties and physical resourcesConsider recommendations from management on the purchase sale or re-development of propertiesProvide advice to the Board at a strategic level in regards to the ownership and use of property within the context of theNational Disability Insurance Scheme
If you would like to make representation to this committee or have any suggestions for how we might priortise the aboveterms please give me a call or an email and I will pass your views along to the committee The first meeting of the committeewill be held on the 11th February Inspection reports recently undertaken will be tabled at the meeting The reports indicateseveral properties require internal and external painting and there are strong arguments for upgrades require to somebathroom and kitchen facilities
Board Strategic ReviewThe Board has set aside March 5 and 6 to undertake a strategic refreshment and planning workshop External facilitators arebeing engaged to facilitate discussions around our Mercy Ethos and the NDIS environment We welcome your contributions inregards to your current services and also how you are experiencing the NDIS transition
NDIS Development Work in this space includes networking with National Disability Services and local providers as well as Catholic SocialServices Australia where experiences are being shared Together with social service ministries of the Institute of Sisters ofMercy Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG) we have contracted with a consultancy firm to review NDIS experiencesand to provide advice to Government in regard to its future development and current concerns
The Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme is conducting an inquiry into Market ReadinessThe inquiry is open till 22nd February More information can be found at NDIS Joint Standing Committee inquiry into MarketReadiness
New Services We are pleased to report we have been approached by the DHHS in Victoria and have now registered as a provider of ChildYouth and Family Services This registration is specifically for the support of children requiring care support protection oraccommodation and of families requiring support This is in addition to our NDIS and disability services registration and isrequired as we have been requested to provide lead services for children in care
We have also negotiated contracts for 7 individuals who were over 65 years and unable to register for the NDIS Continuity ofCare packages from the Commonwealth Department of Health will provide for individualised support comparative to thosewithin NDIS plans

The participants at Bell St have decided on a new name for their home
From now on it will be known as Marrang Marrang is an aboriginal word that means good and happy which representsour participants who live there
Thank you to John Swan and the guys in the woodwork class that took the time to create the new sign for MarrangDaniel (above) looks pretty happy with the new sign
CONGRATULATIONS SR SCHOLASTICAStaff and Participants celebrated with Sister Scholastica on Wednesday 17th January at the St Johns grounds as she
celebrated her 70th Jubilee
It has been 70 years since she became a Sister and within those decades she has spent her time and efforts helpingothers
We thank Sr Scholastica for all she has done and continue to do here at Mercy Connect
SUPPORT COORDINATION
We welcome staff member Megan Scheetz into a Support Coordination role here at Mercy Connect
Megan will join Liz and Fiona in the Support Coordination team for the next 3 months As this a full-time position Megan willnot be working as a Disability Support Worker during this time

It centres on developing the skills of our staff I analyse the skills that are required for each job role in the organisationand develop training plans and pathways for skill development I also design and deliver training programs both face to
face and online programs

A I Have been here for 11 months nearly 1 year in February
Q What do you enjoy about your jobA Everything I absolutely love what I do I really enjoy working with staff designing interactive fun and interesting
programs and developing individual skills I have also loved the opportunity to get to know our participants and workingwith staff on the outcome stars project
Q Who is your favorite sports teamA Western Bulldogs
Q What hobbies do you have
A Lots Water skiing tennis and travelling to name a few

The NSW Government has announced a consultation period to be open until Friday 2nd March 2018
The NSW Government have prepared a set of consultation papers on how we can improve residentprotections for people with disability living in support group accommodation We are interested in hearingyour views
Who can participate
The consultation is open to everyone in NSW but we particularly want to hear from
people with disability in NSW who are living in supported group accommodation and their families andguardianspeak body and advocacy groupspeople and organisations in the disability and housing sectorsinterested people of NSW

Consultation on providing residents of supported group accommodation with resident rights
The NSW Government has announced a consultation period to be open until Friday 2nd March 2018
The NSW Government have prepared a set of consultation papers on how we can improve residentprotections for people with disability living in support group accommodation We are interested in hearingyour views
Who can participate
The consultation is open to everyone in NSW but we particularly want to hear from
people with disability in NSW who are living in supported group accommodation and their families andguardianspeak body and advocacy groupspeople and organisations in the disability and housing sectorsinterested people of NSW

The NSW Government will release a final report in June 2018
Why the need for consultation
We want to make sure people with disability living in supported group accommodation have an appropriateset of rights and protections similar to what private and social rental tenants and boarding house residentscurrently have It is also important to make sure the impacts of providing these rights are considered fully
not only in the context of the NDIS but also for disability accommodation that is not funded by the NDIS
