2018 Arts Festival Week 3—Working with withies and wire and developing our sculpting skills

Nursery children have been painting their petals made from withies.

Reception have been doing lots of drama

to support their literacy work. They have been writing

sentences in direct speech and illustrating them for

their whole class book.

Rocking Horse Room children have been using different techniques in charcoal to create illustrations for their book of diary entries by Pod.

Y1 have been learning how to make collage skies.

Y2 have been learning to develop their ideas using conjunctions from

Pod’s point of view.

Y3 have been learning how to flesh out their wire mouse sculptures using tissue paper and building on them to create de-fined features.

Y4 have been debating for and

against the reasons why Arrietty should or shouldn’t leave her home and go outside. The children have some very strong arguments. Y5 have been learning how to write an opening paragraph for their balanced argu-ment to introduce the question they are de-bating. Elemental Explorers have been challenging themselves to use really formal language in their Borrowers balanced arguments. Y6 have been manipulating and joining wire in a variety of ways to create ants for their sculpture. It has required lots of creativity, resource-fulness and persistence.

Meridian has been on the move this week in all sorts of ways with each class taking on different challenges every day ! We hula-hooped, did keepy-uppies, played “pop corn”, sprinted, ran egg and spoon races and lots more.

Thanks for your support– we raised just over £95.00.

Arrietty needs freedom or she will be

unhappy. On the other hand, if she

goes outside, she could be in danger.

Ola, Y4

I’m doing it so carefully.

Alex, FS1

Don’t forget the 2018 Arts Festival exhibition opens next Thursday, 29th March from 8.45am—please come along to see how the children’s writing and art installations have been inspired by The Borrowers.

Arrietty has only seen dust, floor-

boards and darkness. If I let Arrietty

go borrowing, she will be filled with

amazement because she has been

stuck in the house for years and

years.

Whilst Arrietty begs for freedom from her mother and father, Homi-ly's true passion lies within the confines of their abode. The question has therefore arisen: is Homily making decisions in the best interest of her family or her-self? Carly, Y5

Thank you for your continued support.

The Borrowers has inspired some architects in the making in Reception—their Borrower home fea-tures a roof top garden, a bath which is filled with captured rainwater, a zip wire to make travelling between the different floors quicker and easier and lots more interesting inventions.

After School Clubs Play club runs every day until the end of term but most after school clubs have now finished. There are a few exceptions where we are running activities next week to cover missed lessons from the Spring Term. Please check the dates below:

SUMMER TERM CLUBS We hope to send details about registering for Summer Term Clubs home before the Easter holidays; clubs should start wk/c 24th April.

There are some changes to the Summer Clubs programme:

Our current piano tutor, Han-sae is returning to South Korea after Easter. We will be looking for a replacement piano tutor; while this process takes place, lessons will not run in the Summer Term.

Charlton Athletic Community Trust who run our KS1 football for Y1 and Y2 are currently undergoing some restructuring to their school programme. As a result, they are not available to run sessions in the Summer Term but they hope to be back in September.

FINAL REMINDER We are still waiting for some payments for extra curricular clubs and music lessons. Please log into your ParentPay account to check the current balances on Play Club, Breakfast Club, ex-tracurricular clubs and music tuition. All money owing for dinners, Play Club, Breakfast Club and any extra curricular activities up to the end of Spring Term 2 needs to be settled by Wednesday 28th March.

Well done to Y1 & Y6 who were joint winners for attendance for Week 4 of Spring
