Highway fatalityon sunday evening, at approx.

6:45pm, a report was received by theMerritt rCMP of a single vehicle colli-sion on Hwy 5. Merritt rCMP, Centralinterior traffic services, BC Ambulanceand Merritt Fire rescue attended.

the collision occurred 15km north oftown in the southbound lanes of the Co-quihalla. A 2010 Mazda 3 travellingsouthbound left the road, off to the left.the 30-year old male driver attempted tocorrect, but the vehicle was skiddingsideways as it came back onto the high-way. it rolled several times back acrossthe road and came to rest in the westditch, facing the opposite direction.

the driver suffered minor injuries,but the 27-year old female passenger waspronounced dead at the scene. At the re-quest of the deceased’s family, no nameswere released.

the highway was closed for severalhours to southbound traffic. the rCMPCits and BC Coroner’s service are inves-tigating. speed and alcohol are not be-lieved to be contributing factors in thecollision, however some media are report-ing the driver might have nodded off.
