If you’ve followed the activities of theNV Fish & Game Club at all, you’ll knowthat a core group of members is fightinga big fight, one that could take years toresolve. On Wed., January 13, 7-9pm,they will hold an public informationmeeting at the Civic Centre, to make thecommunity aware of what’s going on.
Spearheaded by Rick McGowan, anavid outdoor adventurer & retired Dept.of Hwys employee, the group is appeal-ing to the provincial government to keeppublic the access to BC lakes — the pub-lic roads and the public lakes.
Over the past year, while their legal caseagainst Douglas Lake Ranch to keep publicthe roads that access Minnie and StoneyLakes is in the works, members of the grouphave been arrested — once for tresspassing(charges which were thrown out of the court)and last month for ‘mischief’ (charges whichthe accused hope will go the same way).
These arrests have occured whilethey’ve been ice fishing on Corbett Lake,a public lake at the edge of a public high-ways right-of-way, according to Rick.
They believe it’s their right (maybeeven duty) to fish there, though the own-ers of Corbett Lake Lodge disagree andto date have the local RCMP on theirside. There will be lots of interesting in-formation & facts that will be given at themeeting. Everyone welcome, light re-freshments provided.
