The new allowable annual cut is compa- rable to the cut level before the mountain pine beetle epidemic began. The Merritt Timber Supply Area covers 1.13 million hectares, with about 590,000 hectares available for timber harvesting — dominant tree species being pine, Dou- glas-fir and spruce. Gord thought it would be an auspicious day to start his then- new project. And so it was auspicious again when it came time to wind it down in 1998. Those 3 short years — and Gord’s inimitable colourful prose — were enough for the community to forge this 3-times-a-week habit, that has now lasted more than 20 years! And for this I am grateful. The MMMarket has sustained my family all these years, and I can never thank Gord enough. The opportunity meant a way to escape the ‘big smoke’ of Vancouver, and a chance to really embed myself here in the beautiful Nicola Valley. Smaller AAC for Merritt Timber Supply

Yesterday, the Chief Forester an-nounced that the new allowable annualcut for the Merritt Timber Supply Areawill be 1.5 million cubic metres, effectiveimmediately.
