From the Principal’s Desk….From the Principal’s Desk….From the Principal’s Desk….From the Principal’s Desk…. Dear Parents and Caregivers,Dear Parents and Caregivers,Dear Parents and Caregivers,Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are proud of the programs we provide at Merriwa Primary. Last Thursday our Interschool Sports Teams competed against Clarkson, Somerly and Mindarie Primary Schools in speedball, T-Ball, cricket and basketball. All teams were a credit to our school and showed great determination, sportsmanship and endeavour. A special thank you to all staff and parents who trained our teams and supported them on the day. It was a great team effort. Also a special well done to the Basketball A and B, who won the trophy in both divisions. We look forward to competing in the Winter Carnival next term.

From the Principal….Merriwa ESC… Year 6 and 7 Day Camp
Please note that Year 6 and 7 students are required to be at school by 8.00 am on Monday and will need to be picked up when they return to
school at 3.30pm. Students who are usually on the school bus service will need to make alternative arrangements next week. It is really
wonderful to see so many of our students accepting the invitation to attend the 3 day activity camp being organised by the Primary School. I
extend my sincere thanks to Ms MacFarlane and Mr Forde, and PS teachers Mrs McKenzie, Mrs Ebert and Ms Winter for ensuring that our
students will be given every opportunity to participate to the best of their ability. If parents are experiencing difficulty with the cost of
various activities please do not hesitate to contact the office to make alternative arrangements.
ANZAC Service
As ANZAC day is in the holidays, the school will be having a commemorative service next week on Friday 11th
at 9.00 am. Parents are
welcome to attend.
Caversham Wildlife Park
The 4 junior classes went out Monday on a wonderful excursion to provide real opportunities for students to make links with this term’s
learning program. Congratulations to all students on their outstanding behaviour. I extend a big thank you to my teaching staff for their
thorough planning to ensure students’ needs were met and risk management plans were considered carefully.
School Holiday Program
The Friends of Autism group are providing activity programs throughout the holidays for students with special needs. Please see the attached
brochure for details.
Student Banking - Tuesday mornings
Don’t forget our school banking day and encourage your child to start saving their pocket money and learn some tips on money
management.
THANK YOU Good Guys
Recently the ESC was gifted a washing machine from Denley at the Good Guys, Clarkson to replace an old machine which has become
inefficient. Merriwa ESC is extremely grateful for this donation which will be very useful in assisting staff when caring for students with high
support needs.
Absences
Thank you to all parents who have kept sick children at home these past few weeks. Several students and staff have been away with various
illnesses. I hope the holiday break gives everyone the opportunity to build up their health
It is very important that the school is contacted if your child is away. A phone call or a note in the communication book allows us to comply
with the Department requirements.
Congratulations to the students who were awarded certificates at last week’s assembly

promoting the key expectations of our school. This was
their friendship poem:
Come and join us
In the circle
For a fun and happy time
We will learn and play together
In our circle yours and mine
Listen carefully and look closely
Have good manners and be kind
We will learn and play together
In our circle yours and mine.

Program Update
Well the term is almost finished, so don’t forget about OSHClub Vacation Care programs. If you are interested, please go to our website
www.oshclub.com.au or come up and see us in Room 20. The Vacation Care programs will be operating nearby at John Butler, St
Andrews, Connolly and Joondalup Primary Schools.
For term 2, if you need before or after school care, remember you have the choice of how you book your children in. You can choose any
number of days a week, or do it on a casual basis where you just book them in when you need it. We are very flexible, and aim to try and
meet your families’ needs.
This term the children have been having a fantastic time here at OSHClub, so why not be part of it. We look forward to meeting more of
