Newsletter No 20 – 9 th November 2020 Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays 2020 has been another fantastic year for Logan Village but also one of complexities due to COVID-19. It has been a pleasure to work with so many wonderful students and staff as well as such a supportive and caring community. This year has taught us that challenges lead to opportunities. Problems lead to solutions. While this year has created challenges that most of us have never experienced before, what it has shown is that we are capable of meeting those challenges - seeking those opportunities and solving those problems. At LVSS in 2020, we have together shown a strong resilience to ensure that our school and our community respond to any challenge and work together to find solutions and to be better as a result. Through the difficulties associated with COVID-19, LVSS has maintained an outstanding educational environment. We have continued to meet our values of quality, community and identity in everything we do as well as developing new processes in engagement and support and commencing a comprehensive review of our teaching and learning programs. Because of the greatness of our people, our school and our community we have endured despite the challenges of 2020. I would like to thank all the staff, students and parents who have worked hard for our school in 2020. I am excited about the work that has taken place in classrooms as the data I am receiving about students’ and the school’s performance continues to be very encouraging. Thank you to the P&C for your on-going support for our school and thank you to the entire staff who work tirelessly to provide the best education for every child.

Farewell and good luck to our year 6 students as they move to high school and to all families who will move from Logan Village in 2020. I would also like to farewell the staff who will leave our school to commence new and exciting pathways. Mr Adam Gunnis, Mrs Jacquie Brown, Mrs Tiffany Gill, Ms Sharee Grant, Mrs Natalie Chew, Mrs Bri Ramsay, Ms Ivy Wu, Mrs Samantha Coull and Mrs Jenny Gordon will leave Logan Village and I thank them for their great work while being at our school. Good luck and you will always be part of our Logan Village community. Logan Village will continue to demonstrate high expectations in learning and behaviour as we ask all students to respect our school and its community by being active citizens. Supporting our teachers to achieve this will be our Teaching and Learning team and our Engagement and Support team whose expertise will assist in developing further knowledge and proficiency to provide high quality, engaging learning programs and support structures for all students. Yesterday students had the opportunity to meet their teachers for 2021. This is always a very exciting time in our school calendar as we commence the process of moving forward for the next year. As always, parents and carers should be aware that classes cannot be confirmed until the eighth day of the school year and therefore changes may be possible and should be anticipated during this initial set up period. Finally, I wish to thank my staff for working so hard to assist me in operating this great school in 2020. It has been an honour to lead this amazing school and I look forward to 2021 with excitement. Please always remember, that we work together for our students- to give them the best possible learning experiences we can. With the holidays fast approaching, I would like to wish all families a wonderful Christmas and a successful New Year. Happy Holidays!

Tree Planting Last week, Mr Tom worked with a student representative from each class to plant new trees out by the pathway on the top oval. We look forward to a beautiful shady-tree lined path in the future. Thanks our special LVSS gardeners! Next year we would like to have more opportunities to plant trees around our school.

MUSIC Logan Village State School was filled with the sound of cheer on Tuesday because of the children attending the school's Christmas Concerts. The children all danced, sang and played beautifully. It was clear that the children had practised very hard to know their words, moves or music well. Some groups had lovely Christmas costumes, or dressed cool to match their cool upbeat songs. Some even had gorgeous head dresses! Some groups had stage props such as rocking chairs and party poppers. It seemed fun was had by all. Spectacular job teachers and students! Have a safe and merry Christmas. Mrs Ram.

Seven-a-side Soccer Tournament

This term our upper school students played in a seven-a-side soccer tournament. The final was played out

between PSG and POG2020. It was a great game with PSG showing that they were too strong winning 4-0.

Swimming Carnival 2020

This year’s swimming carnival was another great success. Billin Billin went back-to-back to win their

second title in two years. It was great to see so many students participating and showing great team spirt.

Sport in 2020 It was a huge year in sport at Logan Village despite the disruptions. As a school, we have had many students

achieve zone, district and state representation in a wide variety of sports which include BMX, cricket,

cheerleading, tumbling, gymnastics, AFL, rugby league and swimming. Well done to all of the students who

have achieved and exceeded their goals. As a community, we are very proud of our students’ achievements

no matter how big or small.

We look forward to another great year in 2021.
