QUALITY ASSESSMENT MEETING

I n the effort of improving the quality of services and ensuring a conducive environment for the Nazareth staff and our clients, the Quality Control

department constituted a committee to oversee the standards put in place in each department and how the departments carry on with their duties. This included interviews to find out whether the department members are con-versant with what is involved in their departments. Finally, the quality control committee had a task to rate the departments’ performance as per the laid down standards. This is supposed to be a continuous process which will lead to final performance report in December and the best overall depart-ment will be rewarded on the Nazareth Day which is normally held in Decem-ber. On 10th June 2011, Departmental heads had a meeting whereby the feedback on a Quality Assessment done by the quality committee was pre-sented. The in charges received positive comments and also areas for im-provement where pointed out. The discussions included how to improve the assessment process and various points were noted. THE TEAM BUILDING OUTINGS

I n the last quarter, four different groups had a day out on different team building trips. The outings have been very exiting and enhancing team work by being there for one another. Its through these outings where all are equal and true team spirit

becomes real…. People of different age, different positions at workplace, different departments, different professions etc gets to interact freely and support each other. This means that if we can embrace the same spirit at workplace, everything would be very easy for everyone in Nazareth hospital and this in turn would reflect to our clients through good services; hence Nazareth hospital would be the best place to be. The outings are not just for fun but a time to reflect on how best we can work together as a team, and to know our colleagues better so as to appreciate them. Thanks to the Management for the continued support through team buildings.

Having strong well defined family values helps solidify the foundation for a strong, tight knit family. When cultivated long enough this close-ness provides a soft place to fall when life doesn’t go according to plan. Strong and consistent family values are important in building trust and confidence in each family member.

1.Belonging. It is important that each member of feel that they are loved, that they belong and that they matter. Being a cohesive family could mean that you spend every spare minute together doing family activities but keep in mind that everyone is different. Creating a strong family unit is great but each person should be allowed the space and freedom to explore the activities they think they may en-joy. People are more courageous and more willing to take chances if they know they have a safe place to come back to when things don’t quite work out. Coming together for special occasions and holidays and just spending time together as a family is what helps build that sense of belonging.

2. Flexibility. I’m all for order, schedules and structure in my family to help maintain some level of sanity. But too much structure and the unwillingness to give a little can result in a lot of unhappiness and resentment. The more flexibility you have in decision making, for example, the happier your family will be for it. Imagine one member of the family always thinking they are right and enforcing their way of doing things. This certainly wouldn’t lead to much happiness within the family unit.

3. Respect. To respect each other is to take feelings, thoughts, needs, and preferences in to account when making decisions. It also means acknowledging and valuing everyone’s thoughts, feelings and contributions to the family as a whole. Respect is indeed earned and there is a very fine line between it and fear. The only way to earn and keep someone’s respect is to first show them respect yourself. Re-spect as an important family value will extend out of the home and into school, work or other social settings.

4. Honesty. This is the foundation of any relationships that are meant to last. Mother-daughter, husband-wife, sister-brother. With-out honesty a deeper connection will not form and certainly won’t last. Encourage honesty by practicing understanding and respect when someone tells you of their wrong doings. If we lose it and get angry when we’re told what has happened the other person will be more likely to hide it from you next time simply to avoid the disre-

5. Forgiveness. Forgiving people who have wronged you is an im-portant choice to make. Yes, forgiveness is a choice. It is not some feeling that randomly washes over you when you feel the other person has “suffered” enough. This can be tough since a lot of us tend to equate forgiveness with saying what you did was okay. They are not the same thing. Holding a grudge, is not conducive to a close family with mutual respect. Keep in mind that everyone makes mistakes, we all occasionally say things we wish we hadn’t and non of us are perfect. Refer to value 3 communication. Get issues out in the open, gain some understanding and move on. Life is too short.

TOP 5 ESSENTIAL FAMILY VALUES

CONGRATULATIONS NEW MOTHERS!!! • Susan Njeru • Judy Nkatha

Poem for you and all parents All of our babies are presents from God Presents that are merely on loan. To us He's entrusted these most precious gifts As if they were truly our own. God has in our care then allowed them to be To nurture, to love, and to train. To teach them of God's plan for living Setting values for them to attain.

Life's great hourglass for us mortals can't pause The sand never stops flowing through. When the babies grow on and depart from the nest We have done for them all we can do. The time they are babies lasts only so long They appear and then soon they are gone They, too, will get presents of God's very own The continuous cycle moves on.

In time all these 'presents' to God will return Be their span of live short or extended For their ultimate destiny lies solely with Him It is all just as God has intended.

A story for people of all religions and, indeed, none.

O ne night a man had a dream. He dreamt he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he no-

ticed two sets of footprints on the sand: one belonging to him and the other to the Lord. When the last scene had flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints and he noticed only one set. He also noticed that this happened during the lowest and saddest times of his life. This bothered him and he questioned the Lord. 'Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk all the way with me, but I noticed that during the most troublesome times of my life there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed you most, you deserted me.' The Lord replied, 'My precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, those were the times when I carried you in my arms.'

1. If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. 2. If you're too open minded, your brains will fall out. 3. Age is a very high price to pay for maturity. 4. Going to a church doesn't make you a christian any more than going to a garage makes you a mechanic. 5. Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. 6. If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before. 7. Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious. 8. It is easier to get forgiveness than permission. 9. For every action, there is an equal and opposite government program. 10.
