Wednesday 22 February 2017 Dear Parent/Carers, Oh my Goodness, this term is flying by. Last week many of our children had their hearing tested by the Hear our Hearts Ear Bus Project. Hearing is an important aspect of learning so it’s important that our children have good ear health. Often problems like Otitis Media can creep up without us even being aware. Children need to be taught to blow their nose properly to ensure that ears are kept nice and clear. Lessons within classrooms will begin soon. Places on the Excursion to see Mr Stinky at the Dubbo Regional Theatre are now being offered. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience live theatre as they see the book that they are studying in class come to life. There are only 60 places available so make sure that you reserve your child’s seat now. The excursion to Sydney in May for the Writer’s Festival and a performance of Kinky Boots the Musical only has a few places left so if you are still interested please get your deposit in quickly. I am aware that there have been some concerns over the musical, however I am assured that it is family friendly and totally appropriate for Stage 2 and 3 children. Should you have any concerns or questions around this, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Parkes or myself. Last week, students were treated to a visit from the Manly Sea Eagles players. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students and was an even greater opportunity for one parent who is also a huge fan. Last Thursday, the school also hosted the Arts Unit and students from other schools as students participated in a Debating Workshop. Students were taught the fine art of debating, preparing their case, the roles of the speakers and how to effectively rebut arguments from the other team. Students were then given the opportunity to practice their skills. Finally, although the weather is not as hot as it was, students still need to wear hats (not caps) to be sun safe. Students not wearing hats with a broad brim will be asked to play in the shade. Remember: All our dreams can come true – if we have the courage to pursue them. Dear Parent/Carers,

Oh my Goodness, this term is flying by.

This was a fantastic opportunity for our students and was an even greater opportunity for one parent who is

also a huge fan.

A Message From Mrs Hall

Swimming Carnival

We all had a wonderful time at our first swimming carnival last Monday. Our students were beautifully behaved and they enjoyed going over to the grand stand for lunch and cheering for the Primary swimmers.

Life Education Van

The Life Education van arrived last Friday and lessons began this week. We are still accepting notes and money for the following classes who are yet to visit the van.

Infants Assembly will be on Friday 3 March in the Primary Hall at 10.30am. We are looking forward to seeing lots of parents and watching Kinder Red perform their item.

Have a great fortnight.

District Debating Workshop

Last Thursday our school hosted the District Debating Workshop for years five and six. The presenter was Mr Tony Davy who is a senior adjudicator and coach with the Arts Unit, Sydney. The workshop was one of two days being run in the Western area, the other being held in Orange.

The aim of the workshop was to help prepare students for debating by learning more about ar-guments, rebuttals, definitions, and speakers’ roles. Students also had the chance to give a short debating speech and get some feedback.

All students had a wonderful day and learned a lot about debating. They will soon be able to put what they learned into practice as we head into the debating period.

Mrs Furnell

Introducing Mrs Clark!

Mrs Clark has joined us this year at Dubbo West. She is teaching 5/6C. Mrs Clark’s interests are swimming, teaching, water sports, boating and water safety. She has 2 brothers and 1 sister but she also enjoys looking after 2 dogs, 1 cod and 4 sucker fish. Her all-time favourite book is a kids rhyming book called Each Peach Pear Plum and her all time favourite movie is Empire Records. She has 2 amazing hidden talents which are she is very hyper flexible and is super organised. Mrs Clark has been overseas to the Solomon Islands and her dream holiday would be to go to Italy and to visit Solomon Islands once again. Her first job was at a dairy factory milking cows. She enjoys drinking tea but likes to drink coffee from time to time. And to finish us off, Mrs Clark believes in the paranormal and she is petrified of it.
