Small Group Questions November 12, 2017 Series Title: Afterlife Message: “Is there a 2 nd chance?” Introduction This series will look at common questions surrounding life after death – the afterlife. There are many different ideas in this day which is open to a wide spiritual spectrum on this issue. We will examine what the Bible says about the questions. We will not be interacting with every other idea out there but will give implications of what the Bible says about that question each week beyond just the Christian faith. One of the things we need to acknowledge is that the Bible does not give us every detail about what comes next. The point of giving any preview of the afterlife was to give confidence to people who have put trust in Jesus and still living in a broken world. The hope of this series is to inspire hope in God and endurance to continue to journey with Jesus, come what may. Discussion Questions (Questions to get everyone to participate) 1. What needs sorting out in your garage or basement? Is there more trivia, trash or treasure to be found there? 2. If you’ve ever had a garage sale or moving sale, what did you use the proceeds for? Do you still have any of the things you bought with those proceeds? (Questions based on the primary text) Read Matthew 13:47-51 3. What does the parable teach about the Kingdom of God? 4. When you read this parable, what emotion does it bring upon you? Why? 5. What do you believe to be Jesus’ motive in telling this parable and other like it that speak of two eternal destinies in the afterlife? 6. Read John 3:16. That verse has been a prominent part of this series. Do you see a contradiction between John 3:16 and Matthew 13:47-51, a harmony or is it confusing? 7. What kind of implications could this parable have had in the life of the disciples? (i.e. what would this information mean to them and their lives) Are the implications for us different or the same? Why?
