Help them or tell them?
Be like Jesus or talk about Jesus?
Social action or gospel proclamation?
Quite often we find ourselves gravitating toward one of those modes over the other―at times going so far as to pit word against deed, as if the two were mutually exclusive. Yet Good News to the Poor shows us how both are integrated in the biblical vision of mission so that we may become both evangelists and activists―Christians who talk the talk and who walk the walk.

SAFETY CORNER
There is no doubt that things have changed in your life due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Here are a few of the changes we have implemented to help maintain health and safety here at
Shepherd of the Hills
Are you interested in serving here at Shepherd of the Hills? Here are just a few
areas that have an active need.
Multimedia Live Stream Team: We're looking for people to join our multimedia team on Sunday mornings. You would be helping with video and audio production, sound mixing, and other tech-related areas of the Sunday service. If you're interested in helping, let us know! Experience not needed and we will provide all the training you need. Email pastor Jon at [email protected] Virtual Visitation Team: Relationships are an important part to the Christian faith. Even though we are currently limited in our ability to meet together as a body of believers, we can still stay connected to one another using today’s technology. You can help our visitation team by keeping our fellow members informed by making phone calls, using social media, and more. If interested, please contact the church office or email the church staff at [email protected].
Journalist: We are looking for someone to serve as a journalist for our church publication, "The Shepherd's Staff." If you enjoy writing, photography, or other print publication work, and would like to serve, please contact the church for more information. Email [email protected].
Sunday Morning Teams: As we transition to a 3-service Sunday morning, we will need additional volunteers to help with during each service. This includes our Audio/Visual team, snack team, ushers and greeters, and so forth. If you are interested in serving in any area, please contact the church office, speak with one of the pastors, or email us at [email protected].
• Greeting time- We will be eliminating
the greeting time. We know it is
something we have done for a long time,
but it does not allow for social distancing
and may increase the risk of transmission.
• Offering- In the past we have passed an
offering plate from person to person.
Because this presents a way in which
infection can be spread, we will be
moving to free-standing offering boxes
placed in each aisle in the sanctuary.
• Bulletins and Greeters- We will
continue offering printed bulletins and
they will be available for pick up in the
foyer. Our greeters will be there to greet
us with a warm welcome and “hello,” and
will be happy to point us to the bulletins
available for pick up.
• Building Security- During the week the
church building will only be accessible
through the front foyer doors at the
Sanctuary. In addition, we will be locking
the building each night.
• Communion- Communion has be
adjusted so there will be no open food
which may be contaminated.
• Snacks- Similar to communion, we will
be limiting open food options and provide
individually portioned servings.
• Children’s Ministry- We are now
offering Children’s Church during the
11:00 AM morning service. Children’s
church is available for ages 3-10.
• Schedule- Finally, we will be adjusting
our service times to include the addition
of a third service.
1st Service 8:00-9:00
Worship Service (traditional)
2nd Service 9:30-10:30
Worship Service (contemporary)

AUGUST MISSIONS
Vision Project
After his conversion to Christianity in 1971 Bob became affiliated with Jews for Jesus in 1979. He is the leader of Jews for Jesus Austral/Asia, a territory which now includes Singapore and New Zealand as well. He lives in Sydney with his wife.
Bob travels throughout the world sharing the message of Messiah Y’shua. He has preached or ministered on the streets in Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Argentina, visited 47 of the 50 states in the US, all over the traps in Australia from Perth to Townsville to Melbourne to Port Macquarie. Not only is Bob’s style winsome, but his message of faith in Jesus is powerful.
Bob is also the creator and director of Project Timothy, an international messianic internship and discipleship program for young adults from 18-25.
“I had always been proud to be Jewish. There was some mystique to all these dos and don’ts that were supposed to improve me as a person and, in particular, as a Jew. I was fervent, not so much about God, but about “doing” Judaism correctly. It was my job, as a Jew, to observe these commands and comply. I figured that even if there were no God, it couldn’t hurt to comply. Yet hard as I tried, I always seemed to fall short; there was always something more to do, or not do.
In my early twenties I found myself in a conversation with a pair of street corner preachers. Their education was limited but their faith was genuine. The person of Jesus was very appealing.
The New Testament was a defensible book; the gospel was a defensible story. As I found myself drawn to Jesus I began asking myself, how could I do this? How could I be Jewish and believe in Jesus? It seemed like such a paradox.”

Jorge & Rosa Gutierrez are our Missions Vision Project for the month of August.
The Gutierrez’s have been missionaries to Guadalajara, Mexico since 1988.
They continue to run the children’s breakfast ministry, which we support through coins put in the Mexican pot in the lobby.
These breakfasts include a gospel lesson as well.
Both church plants are doing well, one in Guadalajara City and the other in the city of Tepic.
They also do street evangelism monthly.
MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT
CORNER MINISTRY
Our ministries here at Shepherd of the Hills Church allow us to carry
out our mission by addressing a specific area of need in our community.
To learn more about a ministry, tap on a logo below.
Nothing about the Christian faith is by accident, it all requires being intentional about your relationship with God. Membership allows us to extend that intentional approach to our church connection. At Shepherd of the Hills being a member is a way of saying "I'm committed to growing in my faith with these brothers and sisters in Christ." Membership also allows the church to commit to you by pledging to help you in any way possible.
Every second Sunday at 12:15 PM we offer a membership class for those wishing to join our congregation.
If you would like to attend a membership class, please sign up at the welcome desk in the foyer or email Pastor Collin at [email protected] to be added to the list.
MEMBERSHIP AT SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS
The great commission states clearly the directive of the church, to go into all the world and preach the gospel of Jesus. Everyone is called to fulfill the great commission but there are some who are called leave everything and spread the gospel internationally.
It is our desire to support them in fulfilling their calling. We do this by supporting our monthly mission’s commitments, missionaries we support the same months year after year. We also do this by supporting our vision projects, missionaries or organizations who are nominated and selected monthly based on the work they are doing.
The missions committee meets monthly to pray for our missionaries, discuss their needs, and to select upcoming vision projects. All the missionaries we support align with our
statement of beliefs and have been approved by our church elders. The committee normally meets the third Monday of every month; if you have a heart for missions and are interested in join our missions committee speak with Pastor Charles.
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’
Mark 16:15
