lntroduction

This document explains the Metasys Integrator Cleaver-Brooksapplication. Use this document with the Metasys Integrator technicalbulletins in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5)which provide information on installing and commissioning the MetasysIntegrator unit. For information on Cleaver-Brooks boiler control panels, see Cleaver-Brooks documentation (obtainable from a Cleaver-Brooksrepresentative).

Note: If you are using a Universal Packaging Module (UPM), you mustinstall the Metasys Integrator 300 Series in a two high enclosure(EN-EWC25-0) rather than a one high enclosure (EN-EWC13-0)as shown in the figures in this application note.

The Metasys Integrator unit allows Cleaver-Brooks equipment to becomean integral part of the Metasys and Metasys Companion Networks.Once either a CB-Hawk ASCII Interface or CB-General Purpose Interface(CB-GPI) and boiler control panels are connected to a Metasys orCompanion Network via the Metasys Integrator unit, their data is availableto the full complement of Metasys Building Automation System (BAS)features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, alarm notification, trend, and totalization.

The CB-Hawk ASCII Interface allows information to be transmittedbetween CB-Hawk boiler control panels and non-Cleaver-Brooks devices(such as the Metasys Integrator unit). A six slot CB-Link is requiredbetween the CB-Hawk ASCII Interface and the boiler control panels.Optionally, you can connect a CB-Hawk Enhancer to Slot 6. However, ifyou use a CB-Hawk Enhancer, you must tie it into Slot 6, and you mustthen tie the CB-Hawk ASCII Interface into Slot 5 as shown in Figures 1and 2.

Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect to one CB-Hawk ASCIIInterface. Each CB-Link can connect to five CB-Hawk boiler controlpanels, or four CB-Hawk boiler control panels and one CB-HawkEnhancer.

Figure 1 shows a Metasys Network with the Metasys Integrator unitconnected to one CB-Hawk ASCII Interface. Four CB-Hawk boiler controlpanels connect to the CB-Hawk ASCII Interface through Slots 1 through 4on the CB-Link. A CB-Hawk Enhancer connects to Slot 6 on the CB-Link.Figure 2 shows a similar Cleaver-Brooks configuration integrated into aMetasys Companion Network.

Figure 2: Cleaver-Brooks CB-Hawk Boiler Control Panel andMetasys Companion Integration (CB-Hawk ASCII Interface)

You can also integrate Cleaver-Brooks equipment with the Metasys andMetasys Companion Networks through the CB-GPI. This interface resideson an RS-485 bus. The CB-Link communicates with up to fiveCB-Hawk/CB-780 boiler controls and, optionally, a CB-Hawk Enhancer.

The RS-485 connects to a Johnson Controls RS-232 to RS-485 converter(MM-CVT101) which connects via an RS-232 cable to the MetasysIntegrator panel. The Metasys Integrator unit can receive data from, andsend data and commands to, Cleaver-Brooks equipment.

Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect to one RS-232 to RS-485converter which can connect by RS-485 bus to one CB-Link.

Install the CB-GPI in Slot 6 of the CB-Link, unless a CB-Hawk Enhanceris present. If a CB-Hawk Enhancer is present, you must install it in Slot 6,and you must install the CB-GPI card in Slot 5. The number of boilercontrollers that you may connect is then reduced to four.

Metasys Network Setup

Metasys Network Setup is described in the Metasys Integrator technicalbulletins. This section contains details specific to Cleaver-Brooksapplications.

Table 8 lists the software model files and the recommended Display andNetwork Terminal (NT) Command Attributes.

Whether all the models shown in the table are needed depends on theequipment used. For example, if the system has only boiler control panels(and no CB-Hawk Enhancer), only the model file for boiler control pointsis needed. If the system has a CB-Hawk Enhancer and an ASCII interface, all the three ASCII model files are used.

The CB-Hawk Enhancer points are split into two groups:

• CB-Hawk Enhancer boiler points and

• CB-Hawk Enhancer general points

The point mapping tables show how the points are categorized.

1 Whether you use the AI1 or AI2 point depends on whether your system has asteam boiler or a hot water boiler.

2 For the NT Command attribute, use the same attribute as the Display attribute. However, since the CB-780 and CB-783 points are not commandable, you will notbe able to command the attribute. (This must be defined, because the NTCommand attribute cannot be null.)
