URBAWIND, A TOOL FOR WIND FRIENDLY BUILDING

GREEN BUILDING SPECIFICATION GUIDE

LEED™ (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is a rating system created by the US Green Building Council for environmental performance using a “whole building” perspective. The software UrbaWind aims to calculate the wind effects in urban environment. Such study makes New Construction and Major Renovation as well as Existing Buildings eligible for credits to obtain the LEED Certification. This user-friendly tool is tuned for architects and environmental scientists.

Indoor Environmental Quality (Credits 1, 2, 3.1, 3.2 and 7.1)

Objective: • Increase energy savings by minimizing the use of mechanical systems for air extraction and air-conditioning • Respect the new standard of indoor air renewal • Characterize the air quality (IAQ) inside the buildings (hygiene and thermal comfort) Solutions: • Air change rate assessment • Modeling all opening types (section, opening level, loads coefficient…) • Meteorological Scenarios (typical year, season, time of the day…) • Simulation of the air flow tracks inside the buildings including multi-volumes

Sustainable sites (Credits 1, 5.1, 7.1 and 7.2)

Objective: • Contribute to create a pleasant lifestyle • Give value to the architectural project (conception and communication) • Validate the city planning configurations Solutions: • Assessment of the discomfort criteria and computation of the discomfort frequencies • Possibility to integrate climatologic data • Automatic visualization in a 3D mapping

Energy and Atmosphere (Credits 2 and 6)

Objective: • Help the production of renewable energies • Optimize the installation of wind turbines in urban environment • Take part to the construction of positive energy buildings Solutions: • Assess the wind energy potential • Forecast of the annual energy production • Performance of the integrated wind turbines
