In Bild 1awerden beide spektralen Bereiche dargestellt.
Introduction
The meteorologically significant spectral range ofsolar radiation comprises the shortwave range from0,3 µm to 3 µm, which is approximately 96 % ofthe entire extra-terrestrial solar radiation. The max-imum of the spectral distribution of solar radiationis at 0,5 µm. The sun’s radiation follows the Stef-
an-Boltzmann law with a temperature of approxi-mately 6000 K. The earth also emits radiation, at aradiation temperature of approximately 255 K atthe upper limit of the atmosphere, referred to asterrestrial or longwave radiation, in the spectralrange from approximately 3 µm to 100 µm. Fig-ure 1a shows both spectral ranges.
The attenuation of the solar radiation during its passage through the atmosphere, but also of theemitted longwave radiation, proceeds essentially
by the following processes (Figure 1b and Fig-ure 1c):

c) absorption in % of the absorption bands of vari-ous atmospheric pollutants at the earth’s surface
This standard covers measuring equipment for allradiation ranges in the thermal-optical range andits applications.
Fundamental physical variables associated withradiation are defined in DIN 5031-1. Symbols usedin meteorological and geophysical formulae can befound in DIN 1304-2.

verwiesen.
Measurements of the net radiation can be used toestimate the vertical exchange and the dispersion
of air pollutants (e.g. dispersion classes) [4; 5].
This standard is addressed to the operators omeasuring stations used to measure the radiationand its components, both for the purpose of air pollution control and to meet the needs of agricul-ture, energy generation, building and constructiontechnology and meteorology, in particular radiation
climatology. It also covers investigations into theeffects of radiation in the technical and biologicalfields.
For topics that go beyond the scope of this stand-ard, refer to textbooks and further literature [1; 4;6; 7]. Photometric variables are not discussed indetail; refer to DIN 5032-1.
