METHOD TO ACCESS PATRON ACCOUNT

KMC Patron may access to their KMC account by inserting the following details:

Patron ID : Matric Number

Password : unirazak or unitar or umtech

Attention : If KMC patron unable to access their li-brary account, please go to Circulation Counter

Below is the feature of KMC Patron’s account.

Searching for item based on OPAC of other libraries.

1. Type in your keywords/ terms at Search Terms column and select Search Type from the pull down menu.

2. Click on Search button. 3. A list of search result that comes closest to the

match search will appear. Select any title that you want (by clicking on the title)

4. The screen give you a full description of that particular title (Author, Title, Material, Subject, Publication, Edition)

5. You will also get details information for each item or copy for that particular title.

· Call Number – call number for each item

· Location – Knowledge Management Centre and followed by type of collection

· Copy – Number of copy for that title

· Status – Availability status of item

· Item Number – The unique number for each library item

6. Once you determined the Call Number, Location and Status of the selected title you may go to the shelves area and find the title based on the

info.

INTRODUCTION

OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) is an online bibliography of a KMC collection that available to the public. The purpose of having OPAC system is to en-able patron to check at any computer, via internet , the availability of an item before visiting the KMC.

Patron may access to OPAC through the following website: http://opac.unitar.my

Searching for an item based on Author’s Name (Author), Item’s Title (Title), Item’s Subject (Subject), Item’s Publisher (Publisher) and Item’s Call Number (Call Number).

SEARCHING FOR KMC ITEM VIA OPAC CAN BE DONE IN SEVERAL METHODS:

Keyword Search

Searching for an item based on keywords/ terms and combination of specific keywords or terms by using Boolean operators AND, OR and NOT.

Other Libraries’ OPAC

Search

1. This method of searching can be used by combin-ing the Keywords/ Terms. For example: human AND resource.

2. Types of Keywords:

· Alphanumeric - e.g. 1900s

· Number - e.g. 1979

· Symbol (*)e.g. farm*. The OPAC will retrieve farm, farms, farmer, farming or any words that began with farm.

· e.g . : colo?r. OPAC will also retrieved color and colour.

1. If patron wanted to search library item at other campus, please select the desire campus and continue with normal searching.

2. If patron wanted to search other libraries’ OPAC patron may go to

http://perpun.upm.edu.my/myTO/opac.html and liaise with Reference Officer for Inter- Library Loan (ILL) Service.
